Red Sox Expect To Trade Robert Coello

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | February 15, 2011 at 2:48pm CDT

The Red Sox expect to trade right-hander Robert Coello within a couple days, according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com. A few teams are interested in the 26-year-old, who was designated for assignment last week to create roster space for Alfredo Aceves.

Coello pitched in both the Dominican Winter League and the Mexican Pacific League this winter after leading Red Sox minor leaguers with 130 strikeouts in 2010. The Cincinnati Reds draft choice spent most of the 2010 season pitching for Boston's top affiliates, before appearing in six games with the Red Sox. He posted a 3.86 ERA with 10.9 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 107 1/3 innings as a swingman in the upper minors.

For some team with a crappy bullpen, I could see him winning a roster spot. Pretty interesting guy.

I could see the Padres interested since Hoyer might know a thing or two about this guy and also to add minors depth.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Pretty sure he wouldn’t make the major league roster, but he could get called up in a pinch.

If so, I hope Doumit is Boston bound.

I should certainly hope not! Terrible defensive catcher, his bat and glove don’t play in a corner OF spot either, and we don’t need any more OF help. Especially not at his salary.

That’s exactly why I was hoping Doumit would go to Boston. I’m a Pirate fan.

Minnesota has a knack for always chasing bullpen help… I wouldn’t be surprised to see his name with the Twins here soon.

          Whats so funny..??

He’s signed to a huge contract.. his avg dropped .38 points his Obp dropped .42 points and he hit 19 less homeruns…

Perfect time to trade him IMO

Coello and Dice K for Mauer.

          Git R’ done

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Mets are one of the few teams interested since they’ve been heavy on adding relievers this offseason and since they were close in getting the guy Coello was designated for.

He’ll be playing out his days in Pawtucket, though he might get a September call-up as a base stealer.
