Close Continues To Represent 12 Former CAA Clients

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | April 20, 2011 at 10:28pm CDT

Derek Jeter, Ryan Howard and Derrek Lee aren’t the only former CAA clients agent Casey Close will continue to represent now that he’s at Excel Sports Management. Close told MLBTR that he still represents Tyler Clippard, Michael Cuddyer, Alex Gordon, Jerry Hairston Jr., Scott Hairston, Casey Kotchman, Ben Sheets, Marcus Thames and Jamey Wright.

Close left CAA Sports in February and recently joined the New York-based agency Excel Sports Management. For the latest on all agencies and players, check out MLBTR’s Agency Database.

I’d like to take a moment and remind Tim, Ben, and the rest of the writers of MLBTR that the name of this website is MLB Trade Rumors, NOT MLB AGENTS.

The average fan, even the average sports junkie, doesn’t give a crap about who a player’s agent is.

If you want to keep a database of who represents who, fine, but stop writing all the articles about “this agent now has x number of clients”, it adds no value to the site and only wastes the time of the writer and the readers.

I’d have to respectfully disagree. You’re probably right in the average fan doesn’t care, but there are still sports fans who want to know the business end of things as well.

So you don’t care who Boras’ clients are?

Tim knows us better than you do. Please STFU when you’re attempting to speak for all sports junkies. We’re all big baseball fans and we’re all interested in the business side of things. I hate when the “this is a baseball rumors site only” arguement. Don’t read it then. Page views will speak for themselves, not you.

I generally assume MLBTR readers are not the average fan, and care more about representation, arbitration, Elias rankings, the draft, etc. Plus, I definitely care a lot about this topic and feel it adds a ton of value to the site. So, these are posts you may have to just scroll past.

Can’t disagree with you. I think all the articles on here are great, no matter what they’re about. I find these ones most interest 99% of the time.

Yep… and “MLB Agents-News-Signings-The-Draft-Injuries-Ownership-Management-and-Trade Rumors” doesn’t have the same ring to it
