Nationals Finalize Deal With Chien-Ming Wang

By Mark Polishuk | November 3, 2011 at 4:31pm CDT

The Nationals have finalized a new one-year contract with Chien-Ming Wang, reports Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post.  The deal is worth $4MM plus incentive clauses, and it will be official once Wang passes a physical.  We heard yesterday from Wang's agent Alan Nero that the two sides had "conceptually" agreed to a new deal.

Wang signed one-year contracts with Washington in each of the last two offseasons, and finally made his return to the majors in 2011 after missing the entire 2010 campaign while recovering from shoulder surgery.  Wang posted a 4.04 ERA, a 1.92 K/BB rate and a 53.4% ground ball rate in 11 starts with the Nats last year.

Kilgore was the first to report the deal was completed, with Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com and Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio (both Twitter link) also providing contract details.

well, it was good enough wang for them to wait two years for it.

let’s just say passing the physical is a formality.

I love Wang showing some loyalty to the team that kept with him throughout the injury. Awesome seeing that.

More like Wang taking the money and running. The dude has been inconsistent for 3 years now and yet the Nationals gave him a multi-year deal. Nobody in Wang’s position would be dumb enough to turn that down.

It says one year deal, and he didnt even negotiate with other teams. He
has been inconsistent? He’s  made 11 starts in that time. How can you
say that? Its a good deal for the Nats, only 4 mil guaranteed, not that
        much.

At this point the rotation is set up to be Strasburg, Zimmermann, Wang, with some combination of Detwiler, Lannan, Milone and Peacock making up the 4 and 5 slots.. I have the feeling the Nationals will acquire one of Wilson, Darvish, Buerhle, and Jackson however and make for a pretty solid rotation in 2012

he could have helped the yanks..but cashman only gives bad long term deals ala pavano,wright,johnson..cashman has invested in yank players lately like i have in the stock market..ive been buying high and selling low..if i was able to do the opposite id be richer and cashman’s yanks would be going for #31
