The Yankees announced they have designated first baseman/outfielder Garrett Jones for assignment. The team also outrighted lefty Chris Capuano and reinstated outfielder Slade Heathcott from the 60-day DL and optioned him to Triple-A. Jones, 34, joined the Yankees in the December Martin Prado trade with the Marlins. He hit .215/.257/.361 in 152 plate appearances for the Yankees.

Ackley really made him redundant to this team, he’s basically going to be used in the same role, but plays more positions and is younger. Hope he finds a home with more playing time, coming into the season with A-Rod and Tex as health concerns, he looked like he was going to be a regular, and has hardly played at all.

GI Jones still has it against righties. Perfect Platoon option for a team in need of a righty masher. Could be a solid bench option for the Mets or the Orioles especially
