Carlos Beltran To Join Yankees Front Office

By Jeff Todd | December 18, 2018 at 12:58pm CDT

The Yankees are hiring recently retired ballplayer Carlos Beltran to a front office role, per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand (via Twitter). Beltran will serve as a special advisor to GM Brian Cashman.

Last we heard, Beltran had declined a similar opportunity with the New York club last offseason. At the time, of course, he had only just wrapped up his illustrious, two-decade MLB career.

Beltran certainly was entitled to some time away from the game, but it has long seemed he’d remain engaged in some capacity. Indeed, the Yanks even considered him for their open managerial post, with Beltran indicating real interest in that demanding job.

It’ll be interesting to see what path the 41-year-old Beltran takes in his post-playing career, which is only just getting under way. As Feinsand notes, one of his first assignments could well be to help the Yanks lure Manny Machado, who shares an agent with Beltran.

get your facts straight. He used Toridal during one of the WS. It’s essentially high strength injectable tylenol. I’ve gotten shots of it for my back. Big difference between that and PEDs bud.

Still on the illegal substance list. Just like furesomide. It’s used to get water out away from your heart, but like most drugs, they have secondary uses like masking.
          No class act.

Girardi was NEVER a bad hire. He was manager of the year prior to joining the Yankees.

That said, I don’t think Boone was as bad as his critics are saying. He stumbled a few times, made some critical errors, but in the end the Yankees were NOT the best team in the sport, nor the league, nor the division.

Hopefully he is a quick learner.

Girardi was a fantastic hire and the Yankees should’ve kept him aboard instead of going the Boone route. Girardi accomplished a lot with really good teams and really bad teams (a championship and kept really bad teams (‘13, ‘14) in the hunt into September when they had no business being there)

While I agree with you, I’d just like to add that Girardi seemed to keep his players in check. Boone seems to lax for me. Girardi seemed to get the most of his young players (rise of Judge, Gary, Severino, Didi, all under his presence) even though the excuse for picking up Boone was that he’d be better for the younger players (which I dont necessarily buy, maybe as someone to hang out with but not someone to be your coach).
Girardi also cared a lot about the team. Felt like he was 110% invested emotionally. Felt like he was respected by players (outside of maybe Chapman). Kinda like a tough love thing you know

I love how your assumption is back with”I feel” without stating facts on any of it. You’re not in the locker room to know if Boone keeps them in check.

Ok, heres the facts that back up how I feel.
For “Girardi seemed to keep his players in check/Boone seems too lax for me”: the official reasonings for why Girardi wasnt resigned is that he was too tough on the younger players (even though i believe they just didnt want to match Girardis price tag). Thats why they brought in Boone. Im sure Boone tries to keep them in check but I cant imagine he is very strict with anything. Boone was brought in to be ‘just one of the guys’. He doesnt even wear his jersey most of the time, he’s just wearing his undershirt. If you see him in interviews he is a much more laid back guy than Girardi. Girardi seems more serious. Not necessarily mean of unreasonably strict, but definitely more serious.

For Girardi being invested: He was super emotional in a good amount of post-game press conferences. I think he was during A-Rods retirement, maybe Texs, Jeters probably too (memory is blanking out about which players retirements he was emotional about, if you want you can double check). But for sure he was emotional at the end of the 2017 season/playoff run. He can visibly see just how much he cared.

For “Felt that he was respected”: D-Rob made public his respect and gratification for Girardi when he retired, among many other players. I think Chapman was the only one that liked some post on IG talking smack about Girardi or something. Maybe it was twitter

Is that good enough for you? My statements are not completely empty rationalizations. I only put “i feel” because there is no actual way to know for sure. It is speculation. I am allowed to speculate. I am not going to pretend its not speculation either. I consciously put “I feel” down for a reason. I can very well be wrong.

But Slevin, me making logical conclusions (that I understand can be wrong) based off evidence presented to me is not what I would consider something that needs a reality check..smh

Do you mean Karen (usually how it is spelled)? And it is not a language spoken by many major league players (I don’t know if there are any) and certainly not Beltran. Karen would be more like Loatian and Cambodian if my knowledge serves.

People getting on Boone he won 100 games and that was without Aaron Judge for two months. What pump the brakes just a little bit and see how he does this season. The Bell Tron hiring is a very smart baseball decision but I think we all know his first job is going to be convincing Manny Machado to come to the Yankees and to take less than a 10 year contract. Do not be surprised if you hear many Mashat out signing with the Yankees seven years 280,000,000 with opt out clause is after your three and year five.

Amazing, ain’t it? Cries of poverty from all the owners, and they keep expanding their Front Offices with more functionaries than the Department of Defense.

Dombrowski was saying the other day his first FO had FIVE people sitting around the desk. There are now more than fifty.

But dem players, man, they’re making waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money……

BTW, given the state of technology now versus then, FO cost should be going DOWN…..but not when the money is flowing in so fast, they have to spend it or give it to Uncle Sam…..

I’m not sure what your gripe is here. More splitting of responsibilities leads to a greater ability to find the right players as FO staffers can focus on different things. As for payroll, a Front Office of even 50 costs maybe 2% of what the active player payroll is.

Hope this means Beltran is next in line. Maybe Boone’s team stumbles out of the gate and Cashman gives him the quick hook. Boone was a terrible manager (I know he won 100 games but I could’ve led them to that). He can’t handle a pitching staff and makes very questionable in game decisions. I do not trust him to take Yankees to the next step and this young core is wasted with him at the helm
