MLB Free Agent Prediction Contest Leaderboard Now Available

By Tim Dierkes | December 31, 2018 at 2:31pm CDT

Were you one of the 6,845 people who entered in MLBTR’s Free Agent Prediction Contest back in November?  If so, you’ll want to check out our new contest leaderboard.  With 21 of the top 50 free agents signed, 11 people are tied with a .286 batting average (six correct predictions).  Of those, Kris Freel currently wears the crown with correct picks on Nathan Eovaldi, J.A. Happ, Josh Donaldson, Jeurys Familia, Andrew Miller, and Joe Kelly.  MLBTR writer Ty Bradley is one of about 100 people with five correct, leading our website staff.

To find out how you’re doing, simply type your name into the search box.  You can also click anyone’s name to see the picks they made, and try the “Staff Only” button to see how the seven participating MLBTR writers are doing.

Phillies dealing Santana acquiring segura I think they sign both machado and Harper.

Hoskins going back to 1st makes room for an impact bat in the OF to pair with mccutchen and maybe philly puts segura at 3rd machado at ss

They’re clearing going for it. So I expect some big moves to finish the off season, even if they don’t sign either.

Both to the Phillies huh? I think the Phillies are starting to piece a good team together however I feel like they are going to wait to make a huge splash with Trout when he is available.

The NL is definitely weaker at this point. Only teams thats made huge improvements are the nationals grabbing Corbin and gomes/Suzuki and the Phillies grabbing segura and mccutchen.

Idk what the braves are doing in the OF and catcher or the Mets are doing at 3b ss or 1b.

Dodgers have questions with health of their rotation and questions with their pen and catcher and outfield

Cubs brewers cardinals all have questions but of different issues.

Signing machado and Harper plus dealing some prospects to acquire someone like Kluber or own help i think makes them a clear ws contender for 2019 and beyond.

Braves are waiting for OF. They only need 1. Prob hoping they can get the price down a bit on they’re preferred, if not, Markakis is a safe bet on a decent salary.

Catcher is pretty setup, McCann and Flowers unless they trade for JTR. That’s pretty much set.

Their biggest holes are RP. They could use a top shelf starter, but it’s not a desperate need for them, unlike the bullpen help.

I”d love to see them go after Cody Allen, Britton and 1 more mid-level relief arm.

Cardinals got Goldy for nothing and signed Andrew Miller. I’d say that’s a solid offseason so far. Especially if they more.

I think it was something about where they were ranked in top 50, wasn’t it? So if you got people that were high on the list you placed above those that were right on lower tier free agents.

      Syndergaarden Cop………..
“Ties in the correct number of picks will be broken by summing up the rankings of the free agents of the correct picks and taking the lower total. For example: Tim and Steve each get two picks correct. Tim gets Bryce Harper (#1 ranking) and Adam Ottavino (#20 ranking) for a total of 21 points. Steve gets Yasmani Grandal (#6) and Charlie Morton (#14) for a total of 20 points. Steve’s total is lower and he’s ahead of Tim for tiebreaker purposes.”

Harper and Machado both to the Yankees is my prediction (hope)…I will also predict that if NYY don’t get Harper they’ll be big players in the Trout sweepstakes…I expect that they will definitely land Machado…if neither big fish sign in the Bronx this offseason I’d wager my house that Trout is a Yankee when his FA time comes

This contest is similar to batting in baseball. Hear me out. The first place person has a .318 average, which would be close to the best batting average in baseball. Reminds me of Ted Williams quote: “Baseball is the only field where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer.” Just like this contest — a .318 average is the best.
