what the Houston Astros would have to do to get at least 2 elite starters

They already have elite starters everywhere .Why do they need 2 more “elite” starters?

And additionally Yankees fans are aware he needs to get better defensively. They have never denied it. But Andujar sure can hit. Just like Castellanos, JD Martinez, Jose Martinez. Bryce Harper and many others who need work on defense

Yes he can hit like a DH. I don’t think you get it Andujar was historically bad at third. I said it earlier if it was just double clutching that’s fixable but his range and reaction times were terrible. Those are things that I don’t think you can fix defensively. He is a nice hitter he’s no JD Martinez but a good hitter. It’s not the Yankees aren’t high on his bat they are but his defense is horrible and no matter what Cashman says other GM’s can see the footage he is a bad defender and they probably think as I do he can’t be third baseman going forward. You must not of watched him much as a Red Sox fan I was shocked at how slow he was at third he just seems to have slow reactions how do you fix that? If you are another teams GM do you give a young TOR arm for a DH? Maybe he can play first passably but that’s no guarantee either.

bruin as a met fan I watched him plenty and he was no worse than Asdrubal Cabrera and no worse than your own Rafael Devers in fact I take andujar over Devers every day of the week. Devers is a joke at third and I dont see you rushing to trade him

why because he can improve just like andujar can

defensive metrics are flawed and none other than Your own Bill James says so.

and for your information as a rookie Adrian Beltre was a horrid third baseman, wasnt much better the next two years either but he improved. so yes andujar can improve

Devers made more errors at third but was far better defensively. He got to so many balls that Andujar didn’t it’s not even funny. Andujar has the worse range I have seen at third ever. Oh there might of been someone with worse range but I haven’t watched him. Devers is exactly the reason why I think Andujar can’t be a third baseman. I watched nearly every Red Sox game and Devers looks much lighter on his feet then Andujar gets to way more balls. Let’s see who lasts longer at third I’m guessing Devers.

As for your Beltre comments he was never a horrid third baseman. He had a lot of errors his first year but was always considered highly defensively. He was easily the best defensive third baseman in the league his second year and it want even close. You are just flat wrong with your Beltre argument.

I don’t have the link but there is a fangraphs article that talks about Andujar and how bad he was defensively it’s an interesting read. If all third baseman since 2002 he was worse then ever other third baseman but one defensively and that would be Braun have you seen Braun at third since his rookie year? Let me answer that no. Andujar is not a third baseman and Cashman knows this which is why they will sign Machado.

He horrendous at 3rd and was by far the worst regular at the position. They clearly believe he has no longterm future or is salvageable at the position.

You don’t sign a guy for 300+ million dollars for 10 extra home runs 30 extra obp points to take the spot of a guy you have on a rookie deal if you believed he could reach just being average at 3rd.

You’d just keep him and go take Greinke’s deal off the Az books for 2nd tier prospects in a salary dump for them. That way you get the pitching you need and it’s off the books in 3 years as opposed to massive commitment of a 10 year deal

You’re seriously undervaluing the defensive component in assessing a player’s value. Saying Yankee’s fans are aware of it does not mitigate the negative part of his game. Harper is nowhere near as bad defensively as Andujar. And other than Castelanos, none of those other guys are as bad either.

And maybe you shouldn’t use Jose Martinez as a comp. The Cards are trying to move him and are apparently not drawing much interest due to his deficiencies with the glove.

Actually Jason is really good. he actively tries to get as many as possible involved in chat. Tim is really good too. Steve’s issue is he is arrogant and thinks by working here he’s smarter than anyone else. He writes definitively as if his opinions are handed down like Moses with the ten commandments.

The fact is that many posters here are just as or more informed than he is, but his ego can’t handle it.. He literally cannot say he was wrong about Judge he gets all flustered and makes excuses rather than be a man and say I was wrong about Judge. It’s why some of us keep reminding him. To see if he’ll grow up. He’s like fonzie from happy days he couldn’t say he was wrong either. But Fonzie was a caricature, Steve is just arrogant.

A very small percentage of MLBTR readers admit they’re wrong about anything. Didn’t Judge have a huge collapse in July and August 2017? With all due respect, it sounds like you are carrying a grudge about something else.

no he didnt collapse after the all star game he was injured he had a cortisol shot in august and had a monster september, playing through an injury to help your team fighting for the playoffs isnt in anyway a collapse and steve said what he did in june, not july and not august.

Judge had 17 home runs when steve said it and he went on to hit 35 more that season youre just lying to protect him tad, /I was the one who asked the question in chat so I know when it was asked, he ridiculed yankee fans for asking the question

so yes he will get reminded until he admits he was wrong

billneftleberg……I just posted facts that you can easily verify using the game log and highlight features on BB Ref. Will you admit you are wrong? He did collapse for almost 2 months. The numbers don’t lie.

Devers looked shaky at third all year and came up big in the postseason. Also, while his stats aren’t bone crushing he gets better situationally. I know the number crunchers don’t believe in clutch hitting but everyone would say that hitters have better at bats and worse at bats over the course of games and seasons. Some players really dial it in when needed. It takes the whole team to make things matter. If you’re happy with a player, keep him. Make the team better and he gets better. Make the games count and find out what he’s made of. Nomar WAS better than Jeter but where did that get him? Traded.

Andujar may be a liability defensively, but he’s pre arb and can hit. Even the Yankees can’t afford a 20mil player at every position.

The Reds seem like an excellent fit for Keuchel, but strangely–this is the Reds, I know– I see them waiting until next year and going big after Gerit Cole or Chris Sale, maybe handing out Max Scherzer money (7yr210) for one of them. The Reds are tired of being cellar dwellers and know they need to spend to compete in their division. I don’t see them going to the luxury tax line, but they have a talented lineup with a bunch of cost-controlled players. A big pitching contract wont kill them.

Typical Yankee fan. He is a Yankee so every team needs to fall all over themselves because he is an overrated Yankee. Andujar is all hit no defense and if he played anywhere else he would be just a player. Remember “ Greg Bird” and what about Sanchez , put him in the HOF after hitting 19 home runs. Get a grip.
