Marlins To Sign Hector Noesi

By Jeff Todd | January 17, 2019 at 8:13pm CDT

The Marlins have inked a deal with righty Hector Noesi, Jon Heyman of Fancred tweets. It’s not clear whether the minor-league accord includes a spring invite, but Noesi can earn $800K if he cracks the MLB roster.

It has been some time since Noesi, who’ll soon turn 32, has appeared at the game’s highest level. He threw nearly four hundred innings over a five-year span from 2011 to 2015, pitching to a 5.30 ERA with 6.4 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9.

In the interim, Noesi has plied his trade abroad. He carried an excellent 3.44 ERA over 408 1/3 innings in his first two seasons in the hitter-friendly KBO, though he slipped to a 4.60 ERA in 174 frames last year. Most recently, Noesi has made five strong starts in the Dominican Winter League.

And Pineda has faired better? I mean sure he’s been in the big leagues, but had a whole host of injuries plus performance issues… and not to mention the laughable attempt to hide pine tar.

Pineda pitched several successful years for the Yankees. He was never the #1 or #2 they’d hoped for after his rookie season in Seattle, but he won 31 games as a starter over 4 seasons, before his injury.

He held a 6.4 WAR with the Yanks, and that’s a lot more than you can say for anyone the Mariners got for him, including Montero who had a -.9 WAR over parts of 4 seasons.

Campos never played for the Mariners, and Noesi had a -.1.4 WAR in his time with them.

I don’t know if anyone “won” that deal, but the Yankees certainly got the better end of it, and never had a losing season, which if they’d held onto Montero, might have been the case.

Don’t feel bad my friend as we didn’t get much out of that trade either besides pineda’s epic 16 K game against the O’s a few years back and pine tar gate at Fenway lol

Jack Z is easily one of the worst general managers of the the last decade. He somehow drafted worse than he made trades.

One of the forgotten prospects SEA received with Montero In the Michael Pineda trade.

I always wondered what happened to him.

And yet he was actually a better big league player than Montero.

It was Noesi and Montero for Pineda and Campos.

Yes I know that. You called him a forgotten prospect and I was pointing out that he was arguably the better player received by the M’s.

There should be a poll for what team the Marlins trade him to if he makes their roster out of spring training.

Hector Noesi and Vidal Nino sign minor league deals today. Both guys were supposed to be important pitching acquisitions for the Mariners at one point…what a great scouting department they had…wow!

I don’t think Nuno was supposed to be important, as he was a secondary piece a part of the Trump deal. And Nuno was not nearly as a bad as Noesi.

hey jeff, you might wanna look back at Noesi’s KBO stats. you were off on him. the mam posted back to back seasons under 4.00 and compiled 35 wins. (20 of them last season)

But Statiz, engkbo and myKBO.net all have his 2018. 11-10 with a 4.60 ERA and a 4.78 FIP in a hitter friendly version of the PCL. He has limited walks, gotten some strikeouts. Honestly, I’d rather have Dustin Nippert over Noesi when comparing their 2018 seasons.
