Bruce Bochy To Serve As Special Advisor For Giants

By Connor Byrne | February 6, 2020 at 9:56pm CDT

Longtime Giants manager Bruce Bochy will work as a special advisor for the club in 2020, according to president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi (via Janie McCauley of the Associated Press).

The upcoming season will be the 14th in a row with the Giants for Bochy, a franchise icon who managed the team from 2007-19. The Giants won three World Series during that span, but Bochy stepped down from his managerial role after a third straight sub-.500 campaign last season. The team subsequently replaced him with ex-Phillies skipper Gabe Kapler.

The 64-year-old Bochy may have been able to land another managerial job this offseason, but he has instead decided to take a step back from that type of role. That doesn’t mean the potential Hall of Famer is done in the dugout, though. Bochy suggested back in October that he may only take a year off from managing, so he could be a popular name when teams are looking for skippers next offseason. For now, though, he’ll remain in the San Francisco organization.

Why? Bochy had one of the highest payrolls in MLB and booked three back to back below .500 seasons. He finished his overall managerial career in Frisco with a losing record of 1052-1054 . And an overall lmanagariel losing record of 2003-2029 . He’s terribly overrated. Low baseball information Frisco fans think he’s a God . Lol

You are a low baseball information guy. Seriously, you have two brain cells left and they’re fighting each other. There isn’t one baseball analyst or historian that would call him overrated. I don’t know if it’s true that you’re a Yankees fan, but if so, what does that say about your managers and their accomplishments over the last ten years with the payrolls they’ve had?

It’s baseball. This is why you’re so dumb. If you manage in a small market (like San Diego) you’re going to likely compile a losing record over time. Even if you do put together some good seasons. The fact that you can’t grasp that he won 3 in 5 years just shows the ignorance and disdain you have for the Giants and their fanbase.

Big glove, this guy is the epitome of sad. He hangs out on Rumors just to harass. And we, myself included, continue to respond to his posts as if his posts mean anything. They don’t, they’re just seeking attention.

We have to, all of us, commit to ignoring him. It’s difficult, but it’s necessary.

This will be my 58th season rooting for the Giants and you nailed it with your comment. Kapler might surprise us…………. but I really don’t think so. Not unless he’s made big changes since the Phillies gig ?? Maybe Bochy will help him with pitching changes from the clubhouse. We can only hope !!

Kaplers staff in philly was not a staff that fit his analytic lean. I believe this staff does. And I predict that the core players will benefit from hearing a different perspective and will therefore have much better numbers. I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes.

I think he’d say something more along the lines of, “well, let’s see what we can put together this year.” That’s his mentality.

You’ve never heard the man. Especially on a daily basis. He believes he can get somewhere with anyone. It doesn’t matter what the roster is, that would be his answer no matter who they had.

Bochy excels at getting the absolute most out of his players. That is going to get him into Cooperstown one day.

Tony Gwynn once said that Bruce Bochy could grab 25 guys from Labor Ready and win the pennant.

Giants were never favored to win any World Series. Rangers were favored. Tigers were heavy favorites. Royals were favored. And an overrated manager beat all three. Rangers 4-1. Tigers 4-0. Royals in 7.

It seems to me Bochy was hired to be yet another person to tell Gabe Kapler what to do. Does anyone else get the feeling Kapler was hired to be a puppet manager, someone they could fire without problems when his role has been fulfilled ? I’m surprised they let him hire as many assistant coaches as he did. You have two pitching and hitting coaches and directors overseeing those coaches and at least two coaches who really don’t have defined roles.

TBH, Bochy lives close enough to the stadium that he walks to and from home games. Probably the deciding factor here.
