Mariners Sign Asher Wojciechowski

By Anthony Franco | July 28, 2021 at 11:57pm CDT

The Mariners have signed right-hander Asher Wojciechowski to a minor league deal, reports Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times (Twitter link). He’ll be assigned to Triple-A Tacoma.

Seattle will be Wojciechowski’s second organization of the 2021 season. He signed a minor league deal with the Yankees over the winter but spent much of the year on the injured list. New York selected Wojciechowski to make a spot start against the Phillies last week. He tossed four innings of two-run ball but was designated for assignment the following day.

New York passed Wojciechowski through outright waivers, but he rejected a new minor league assignment and elected free agency. He’ll now add some depth to a Mariners starting staff that’s still pretty thin, even after yesterday’s acquisition of Tyler Anderson from the Pirates. Over 12 2/3 innings with the Yankees’ top affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Wojciechowski allowed eight runs but struck out seventeen and issued only five walks.

They only have two starting pitchers in AAA. Poor decision making is why.

The Mariners need to trade for Cubs Kris Bryant & sign him to an extension as part of the deal.. The Mariners really need a superstar right now but more importantly it will give everyone a 2nd wind of excitement about possible playoff baseball in Seattle again.. It’s been way too long for the whole Mariners organization to the players all the way to the fan’s really.. REALLY need this to happen NOW !!!

      Seattle acquires:
      3B Kris Bryant

      Chicago acquires:
      (#10) SS Noelvi Marte
      P Juan Then
      3B Austin Shenton
      P Sam Carlson

I would never give up this much to acquire Bryant. I’m just not as good at sarcasm as most other posters on this site.

      Who says no?

Oh heck no! Have you been seeing what Marte has been doing the past several years. He’s Seagers replacement and club controlled for the next 7-8 years. His service time hasn’t even started yet! And Shelton too? Lol we just drafted him last year because we aren’t deep in 3B in the minors.

Kelenic will start hitting here pretty soon and then watch. We will hang in the playoff race right down to the end. Dipoto has taken our farm system for a ranking of #26 all the way to #3. Dipoto will hold tight to our top prospects! Just look at the peso prospect he just up for Andersen.…nothing substantial!

Like I said, I would never give up that much for Bryant. Cubs would do that deal in a heart beat. We wouldn’t though. I agree, better to attack Free Agency. Can’t blame Dipoto for trying to get a big name in a trade rather than pay through the nose in free agency.

Nah the mariners dont need to add bryant, let the team grow with the youth they have, if you added bryant it’s his team. I would like to see what the kids can do. Realistically Seattle isn’t winning anything and lucky to be where they are, even luckier if they make postseason. Why give up prospects for bryant?

But with dipoto nothing is crazy, amd nothing is off limits, he has a good eye for assessing talent

The Mariners didn’t plan for Paxton, Dunn, Sheffield, Margevicious, Newsome to be all injured at once. That’s a full rotation right there!

(They we’re also a couple of credible starting pitchers short in Tacoma, to be fair)

I’m happy for Asher, he had one appearance and it wasn’t bad. Wouldn’t it be funny if the Mariners get the last card and the Yankees don’t and one reason was Asher ?

Well Shit, there goes our season. They are gonna worry more about fitting the name on the damn jersey than winning baseball games.
