Nationals Release Chad Pinder

By Anthony Franco | May 5, 2023 at 10:13pm CDT

The Nationals have released Chad Pinder, reports the Talk Nats blog (Twitter link). The veteran utilityman had been in the organization on a minor league contract. He’ll return to the open market in search of a new landing spot.

Pinder, 31, played parts of seven seasons with the A’s. The former second round draftee hit .242/.294/.417 in 553 games with Oakland. At his best, the right-handed hitter has compensated for middling on-base marks with decent power production. He’s topped double digits in homers on four separate occasions. The bulk of the damage has come against left-handed pitching, as Pinder carries a career .264/.322/.456 line when holding the platoon advantage.

While Pinder continued to hit lefties at an above-average clip last season, he slumped to a .218/.250/.341 slash while fanning nearly a third of the time versus right-handed arms. That limited him to minor league offers over the winter. Pinder first caught on with the Reds and spent Spring Training in the Cincinnati organization. He slumped to a .103/.167/.154 line in exhibition play and didn’t make the team. Pinder exercised an opt-out and quickly landed with Washington.

Pinder’s offensive struggles continued with the Nats’ top affiliate in Rochester. In 16 games, he hit .218/.308/.309. He walked at a quality 11.3% clip against a manageable 24.2% strikeout rate but only managed three extra-base hits (a homer and two doubles) in 62 trips to the plate.

He should come back to the A’s. His slash line is better than half the current A’s MLB roster.

Scott Harris needs to get on the phone pronto! He needs a “defensive replacement” for the outfield who can reach the infield with his throws. Might be nice if the same dude can back Maton at 3B without being worse in the batter’s box than Schoop…

Not surprised. He couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat in spring.

Another guy who couldn’t adjust when they figured him out.

If the boat represents the Reds, then the boat probably wasn’t even on the water.

PS: Just making a joke, don’t feel offended too much.

I won’t say DBacks aren’t exactly setting the world on fire either then. But I think they are doing better in that division than most people thought going in.

Some people on here will get upset with me (what else is new from the internet) but I think the Padres are overrated. Spending money doesn’t equal success, especially considering some of the characters it was spent on.

What? XB is a high-class player. Machado has matured into one. Darvish is a stand-up guy as well. The only character flaw I see in their recent signings is the Tatis extension… but he’s owning his mistakes very well at this point, with the dancing rather than getting angry when people call him a cheater.

No harm done. His family is pure M.A.G.A anyways, so his character makeup is totally dubious and undeserving of a job.

Anyone who disagrees with you politically apparently doesn’t deserve to make money.

I’m no trump fan. But to say someone’s character is bad and he doesn’t deserve a job just because he has a different opinion than you politically is beyond stupid. If anything it shows your character and attitude is worse than his because you chose to judge him by his political leanings. You don’t know him, for all you know he could volunteer at soup kitchens and donate money to kids charitys. So no, I don’t necessarily like who he likes and supports politically, but that’s perfectly fine he is free to his opinion, I don’t have to agree with it. No one deserves to be written off as a person based on who they like politically. He should be judged on his actions and his kindness to people. You are the type of guy who preaches open mindedness and when something doesn’t line up 100% according to your beliefs you get upset and start hurling insults. People like you are what’s wrong with this country.

Nope, that’s a lie. Pinder’s fam are flag-carrying militant wannabes. I’m not the problem at all. M.A.G.A.ts and the people that make excuses for them are. F*** Chad Pinder and his family of Goochland rednecks. Any pro-M.A.G.A fascist absolutely deserves to be written off entirely. Politics are no longer just harmless beliefs – these brown shirts are enemies of democracy. Bump em out to sea and wave goodbye and good riddance. These aren’t quibbling views either – simple things like, are women equal, are minorities deserving of representation, is voting a right… those are things worth throwing out someone for “disagreeing” with.

So everyone that supported trump all believe women aren’t equal, unfair treatment of people of color is ok, and voting isn’t a right in your eyes? So you believe those people are closed-minded and unfairly characterize a group of people without exception. You respond by being closed-minded and unfairly characterizing a large group of people yourself. You and the people that actually do that have a lot in common. You both think that you know everything and harbor pointless hate towards each other. The extremist in both sides are real, and from the way you talk it’s fair to say that you are one. but a good majority on both sides can listen to the voice of reason and be open to different ideas. How about instead of screaming and calling each side crazy you sit down and have a conversation without yelling at each other or screaming. Stop acting like you know everything and be willing to listen and be able to disagree in a positive manner instead of throwing a tantrum like a spoiled 5 year old who didn’t get his way. You have a lot more common than you think. The only way a society can grow and evolve is in this manner. So yeah you are 100% part of the problem mate I hope you take my words into consideration but I know you won’t.

Should’ve kept Pinder instead of giving Diaz 15mil. Pinder ain’t great but Díaz is awful and just plays like a guy who doesn’t want to be out there.
