Angels Interested In Nolan Arenado

By Charlie Wright | December 31, 2025 at 4:33pm CDT

As the Cardinals continue to pursue trades of their veterans, the Angels have emerged as a potential destination for Nolan Arenado. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic connected the third baseman to the Halos last week, and colleagues Will Sammon and Katie Woo echoed the sentiment this week.

Two potential roadblocks existed for an Arenado deal, one for each side, though the Angels have cleared up their end. As Sammon and Woo point out, St. Louis’ attempts to move the aging slugger have been hindered by fellow third basemen Alex Bregman and Eugenio Suarez still being on the market. Arenado would be a backup option to teams that come up short in pursuing Bregman and Suarez.

The Angels’ third base situation was clouded by the status of Anthony Rendon. The oft-injured infielder still had a year remaining on the disastrous seven-year, $245MM contract he signed after the 2019 season. Los Angeles resolved that situation yesterday, agreeing to a restructured contract with Rendon. The $38MM left on his deal will be deferred over the next three to five seasons. Rendon will not be back with the team in 2026. Following the Rendon news, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register mentioned Arenado as a possible trade target for the Halos.

Arenado is a SoCal guy, but that might not be enough for him to waive his no-trade clause to join the Angels. The financial aspects of the deal would also need to be sorted out. St. Louis has been able to move two of its three large veteran contracts so far this offseason, but both deals required cash attached to the player. The Cardinals sent $20MM to Boston in the Sonny Gray deal. They tossed in $8MM to complete the Willson Contreras trade, which was also with the Red Sox.

Arenado still has $42MM remaining on his current deal. The original eight-year, $260MM extension he signed with the Rockies runs out after the 2026 campaign, but the Cardinals added on another year for $15MM after acquiring him. By eating money in the Gray and Contreras trades, St. Louis was able to net MLB-ready starting pitchers in Richard Fitts and Hunter Dobbins. The Angels’ system isn’t exactly overflowing with talented starters, but players like Mitch Farris, Jack Kochanowicz, and Caden Dana fit the Fitts/Dobbins mold as young arms with minimal MLB service time who could contribute to a 2026 rotation.

It’s easy to forget just how good Arenado was in his first two seasons in St. Louis. He hit 34 home runs in his debut with the club, then delivered a monster 2022 that put him in the mix for NL MVP. Arenado slashed .293/.358/.533 and led the NL with 7.9 WAR (per Baseball Reference) that year. Teammate Paul Goldschmidt took home MVP honors, but Arenado earned his fifth Silver Slugger award and his 10th straight Gold Glove award.

Arenado steadily declined over the next three seasons. He provided decent results in 2023, knocking 26 home runs and finishing with a 107 wRC+. His power continued to fade the following year, as he posted a meager .123 ISO and the first sub-.400 SLG campaign of his career. Arenado bottomed out in 2025, slashing .237/.289/.377 with just a dozen dingers. He also missed time with a shoulder injury. Arenado’s 84 wRC+ in 2025 was his worst mark since his rookie year in 2013 (excluding the shortened 2020 season).

Despite the falloff at the plate, Arenado remains an above-average fielder and a solid contact hitter. If the cost is cheap enough, he could help an Angels team with an unsettled situation at the hot corner. The Halos largely relied on Yoan Moncada and Luis Rengifo at third base last season. Both players are now free agents. The current in-house options are Christian Moore, Oswald Peraza, and Vaughn Grissom. The trio could all be candidates to play second base as well, with Kyren Paris also factoring in at that position. The Angels have been bottom 10 in OPS at third base in each of the past five seasons.

Rays will never spend enough to win unless new ownership changes their mind, and Marlins haven’t spent since Pudge in 2003. Can’t really switch teams in Florida, unfortunately. Go cry to someone who cares. Braves won in 2021 and still have elite players signed to extensions like Strider, Acuna, Riley, etc.

Randomly lived on my street. I had bought a house and was driving home and two kids are throwing the ball in the middle of the road. I was thinking “if they dent my car, there’s going to be an issue,” only later to find out it was Arenado, home for a break playing with his brother. Of course HE wouldn’t miss a ball!

          True story.

Baseball Reference shows $5 million of the $42 million is owed by Rockies for a net of $37 million.

Arenado might be worth $6 million per year, so dirty birds need to throw in $20 million in cash minimum. And that is getting back an unknown prospect who is there only to provide “cover@.

I’ve read a couple places where the Cards should kick in the $15 million that was added to the contract when he was traded as well as the $6 million that is deferred for this year. Angels get 2 years at $8 million per. Should get them a prospect or 2 in the bottom of the Angel’s Top 30 prospects. Austin Gorden and Hayden Alverez would be good adds.

I see even more fools, including the writer of the article, who still haven’t realized that Arenado is still nearly a league average hitter when he doesn’t spend an entire month of the season playing hurt.

He’s worth well more than $6M per season.

$6 million is not too much. Ryan McMahon and K’Bryan Hayes are getting more than that. Mauricio Dubon and Miguel Rojas are getting close to that. Arenado might even worth $7 million per year on a two year deal.

His shoulder is ….only logical explanation…he doesn’t whip the bat through the zone anymore…he doesn’t pull the ball with authority which was signature Arenado…he like guides/pushes the bat through the zone…he was out with the shoulder last year for a bit…but that shoulder goes back further than that..

Small sample, but when Nado came back at the end of last season after rehabbing his shoulder, his swing looked pretty strong. He was hitting oppo pitches hard.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he has a solid bounce back at the plate next year. Could be a sneaky good move if the Angels are only on the hook for $8m/year for the two years.

Arenado’s max bWAR in the last three seasons is 2.5. Last season he was 1.3 bWAR. Let’ assume he has a great year at 35 and is at 3 bWAR. That’s enough to get the Angels from last place in the West to . . . last place in the West. Of course, he could have an even worse year. It would be ridiculous for the Angels to give up anything, or pay any salary. to add Arenado next season, or to have him block the possible progress of Dylan Moore and/or Vaughn Grissom. That’s probably while they will do it.

In that case, they won’t get him. It’s not like the Cardinals need to trade Arenado nor do they need to cut payroll any further. If necessary, they could just keep him again, enjoy his production now that he’s healthy again, and then reassess at the trade deadline.

Ha! I was thinking that, too. But to clarify, picking up Arenado is truly the Halo way only if they overpay. For $6M to $8M a year, it wouldn’t be a bad idea. But to overpay reminds me of the Vernon Wells deal. Hopefully they have a file called “lessons learned” lying around the office somewhere…

This would be a very Arte move and give him a player to promote but should not happen.

The Angels should be willing to eat Nolan’s salary if the Cardinals throw in good prospects but the Cardinals are in prospect acquiring mode and won’t want to do that. They’d rather pay the contract down a bit and snag what little talent we have.

That’s not true. These players like Yates are Minasian. Arte gives him a budget and Minasian brings in the player.

You are just dead wrong if you think Moreno had anything to do with Bremmer and Bachman.

Remember it was Minasian who called Maddon in the dugout. And Dipoto quit because Moreno wouldn’t interfere with Scioscia inability to adapt to analytics.

Moreno had everything to do with not trading Ohtani. Moreno takes control of big things. Things he can market. Not the small stuff.

          Jerry Dipoto: Anaheim’s let’s make a deal
          Monty Hall
Before he was wheeling and dealing in Seattle, Dipoto turned the Angels into a live-action episode of Let’s Make a Deal. Draft picks? Nah. He preferred the thrill of the trade.

Zack Greinke for Jean Segura and two arms Greinke was a rental. Segura became an All-Star.
Huston Street and Trevor Gott for a four-prospect package Street locked down the 9th in 2014.
Mark Trumbo flipped for Skaggs and Santiago one of his better moves.
Peter Bourjos and Randal Grichuk for David Freese Freese was solid, but Grichuk raked in St. Louis.
Grant Green for Callaspo a prospect swap that fizzled.
Drew Butera for Matt Long depth move, nothing more.

Dipoto’s legacy? More trades than draft hits. front office cold war with Scioscia that ended with Dipoto walking in 2015.

Bravo, unless this is about ripping Dipoto, it’s a non sequitur. Even if everything wrote is true, it has nothing to do with my point.

But I will say this. Dipoto traded Trumbo for two players Moreno couldn’t Market. The fact that Dipoto could wheel and deal like that is strong evidence Moreno is not down in the weeds.

22 years ago, Arte bought a strong big-market organization coming off a WS win. It’s been 16 years now since the Angels have won a single playoff game. Arte is the only constant here. He hires/fires everyone. He makes all kinds of stupid self-imposed rigid rules for his GM’s. Stop making excuses for Moreno. He’s the boss and a guy who micromanages everything….ultimately, it’s all on him.

And how many of those players were playing for the Angels in 2004 through 2009 when they dominated the LA West?

The problem with your analysis is Arte is the entire answer. In the sense he hires bad GMs sure, but if he hired a good GM, this team would be a lot better and in much better shape.

Moreno is the entire answer. You don’t hold him responsible for his stupid spending rules? His own hires? He’s in charge and has been for 22 years…..overseeing a decline from the big market WS winner he purchased to one that hasn’t won a single playoff game in 16 years.

I really do question your motivation for working so hard to diffuse and deflect blame from Moreno. It’s his team. He calls the shots. He is the only constant. He is responsible. Period.

After 22 year, the jury is in on Moreno…..he’s one of the worst owners in sports.

Arte Moreno’s Angels: Off the Grid and Out of Excuses

There’s no one else to blame. Arte Moreno has never hired an experienced GM. Perry Minasian? Solid in the draft, sure—but a disaster in free agency. And Arte? The guy made his fortune in advertising, right? Billboards, marketing, branding. So how is it that the Angels can’t even land a major cable deal to air games?

We’re practically invisible. Off the grid. A franchise with Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani somehow became harder to find than a Sacramento River Cats game.

At one point, we had a full-blown marketing machine. Now? We’ve sunk below the Oakland A’s in visibility—and that’s saying something.

Arte’s running this team like a billboard campaign from 1998. No vision. No urgency. No clue.

The Angels should be willing to eat Nolan’s salary if the Cardinals throw in good prospects but the Cardinals are in prospect acquiring mode
      =========================
That’s one of the reasons I like Arenado for the RS. The Cards have a real revenue stream. Trading Arenado to the RS, and picking up as close to 100% of his salary as allowed, would net a decent prospect. That would be a good sell to the fans who are otherwise likely to be very disappointed.

And the RS could pick up 2+ WAR without having to move their payroll goalposts.

The most recent one was not-trading Ohtani. Minasian screwed up the trades, but Arte was the one who wouldn’t trade Ohtani.

This decade Arte made moves that destroyed our player development system.

          Of course there is Rendon..

Honestly, I can see this happening. 1. The Cardinals HAVE to open up 3b. They dont have a choice at all. 2. They have to pay him regardless, so if he stays on the team, that means the habe to pay the full amount AND he locks a spot they needs to open. So, pay a ton of his salary, let the Angels take tine, and get prospect or prospects for him.

No, they don’t have to open up 3B. If necessary, they could keep Arenado for at least another 4 months, play Weatherholt at 2B, trade either Donovan or Nootbaar while the other plays LF, and then trade or give only partial playing time to Gorman while he tries to earn his way back into more playing time.

They used to do the same thing. They would have 3-4 wins and be in line for a high pick then win the last three meaningless games to slide down the draft board.
I could see the Chiefs laying down and letting the Raiders win. But even if they do, does Pete Carol have the ability to?

This is why I am a staunch advocate for rebuilds. We’ve spent 20 years acquiring decent players, for draft choices, so that we might win 6 games instead of 4. No thought to just burying the team, trading away most of our talent, and then having two really good drafts, before spending again.

I love Crosby, but we need a QB, WR, CB, IDL, OL, OL another edge, etc.

At least he can still play decent defense even if he can’t hit anymore. The Angels 3B were the worst in MLB defensively last season.

If the Cardinals send $30 million along with him, he would be a good fit here. Either that or Angels eat all of his salary and the Cardinals send a couple of their top 10 prospects. Bernal and Roby would make it worth it.

Yeah, I feel like people look at faded stars like Arenado and focus on him being washed up, even though he is still a useful player.

Plus, Angel stadium is top 5-10 in Park Factor, whereas Busch is closer to 20th, so while his .290/30/100 years are behind him, it couldn’t hurt to put him in a better hitter’s environment.

Angel Stadium is a good hitter’s park now? When did this happen? Always been a pitchers park in my opinion. Where good hitters go and then hit .40 below their lifetime average and hit 10 fewer home runs.

Angel Stadium is now considered to be a more hitter friendly park, although this is driven by the fact that the number of home runs hit at the stadium has increased in recent years, and the number of runs scored as well (which may have more to do with the Angels lousy pitching than anything else). Basically, there are more home runs and runs scored at Angel Stadium than average, but a lot of other offensive stats, such as number of hits and number of doubles, are actually below league average.

          Red stitch – Right?
That dude just totally fabricated that….. Lmao good lord some people.

Angels stadium park factors are driven by day or night games.
One of the main factors in Angel stadium increase in home runs is overall increase of home runs in Major League baseball.
Secondly it’s due to the fact that the average start time for night games is now earlier.
Nearly every night game in Angel stadium used to start at 7:35 p.m. sometimes on Saturdays and every now and then you’d get a 5:35 game. But overall the majority of them were 735.
Now they never start that late. They generally will start at 7:05, 6:05 or 535/505……. This significantly changes balls flight in the Orange county Air because 7:35 games being played in Pacific daylight Time were 80% to 100% in the dark (depending on month), which reduces temperature especially when you get an offshore breeze off the cold Pacific Ocean. This hinders a ball’s flight path compared to now with games being played for an extra 60 to 90 minutes longer in Southern California summer heat.
Of course this means nothing to the average person or those with the inability to use their brain for critical thinking. However from a legitimate scientific standpoint due to geographic and ecological conditions, this will severely affect batted balls, specifically fly balls to be exact.

Angel stadium is now a hitters park. You can check the park factors. Angel stadium. Last year the Angel stadium the PF for batters was 105 and for pitchers was 103. A number over 100 favors hitters.

It changed about 5 years ago. If you look at about ten years ago. The PF for pitchers and hitters was 95, which makes it a pitcher park. They say the primary reason for this is the marine layer is no longer prominent as it used to be. It is much easier to hit home runs at night nowadays.

Saw that the Rockies are paying $5 million of his $42 million, so the Cardinals would only have to send $24-25 million to get a lottery ticket prospect back.

No team values Arenado at more than $5-6 million per year. If they send $25 million that values him at $5.5 million per season and they get something back, however small that return is.

He is still a small upgrade for us. That is all Minasian has been able to do for the Angels with the restrictions Arte has placed on him. Incremental improvements when we need a complete overhaul.

Because they have the money to do just enough of a rebuild with Neto, O’Hoppe, Soriano, Detmers, Adell, Moore, Schanuel, Bremner, Joyce, etc. in a short period of time, and then supplement. They haven’t done that since the nineties. And the closest they’ve come to that since was around 2006 when they were already contenders.

That’s exactly the opposite of what the Angels should want. They should be taking on most of the salary, and getting a prospect from the Cards and giving very little back.

He had a 6 DRS and 2 FRV. He was good defensively, just not the elite defense that he used to have. For the Angels who had they very worst defense at 3B last season, that is a 15 DRS and 9 FRV improvement on defense. Arenado is also a small improvement on offense for us if he repeats 2025.

You mentioned defense. I showed that he was above average. Now all you want to talk about is offense?

I already covered that elsewhere on this thread. To recap.
Cards will have to pitch in enough that Arenado costs $5-6 million AAV.
Suarez would be better and cost $20+ million AAV.
Bregman would be better and cost $30 million AAV.
No one else on the market is better.
Arenado had a 94 OPS+/93 wRC+ in the first half before injuring his right shoulder.
Arenado had a 85 OPS+/84 wRC+ last season. The Angels team had an 85 OPS+/85 wRC+ at 3B last season.
Arenado had a 1.3 WAR in 107 games after averaging 150 games the past 4 seasons. The 7 guys that played 3B for the Angels had a combined -0.4 WAR at 3B.
Arenado would be a huge upgrade over Moncada and the rest of the bums that we had at 3B in Anaheim last season.

          Case closed.

He’s not completely washed up. But he does project to be about a replacement level 3B in 2026. A bounce back is possible, but time caught up to him.

More people who missed the fact that Arenado was playing hurt for an entire month last season. A rebound is extremely likely, not just possible.

Meanwhile, while his defense may not be what it once was, it’s still well above average.

In reality, he should be at least a 2 WAR player once again next year.

Arenado projects as a 1.6 bWAR player. 95 OPS+ and 6 DRS. If you prefer Fangraphs, he projects at 2.0 WAR. 100 wRC+ and 1 FRV. Close to average or average, not replacement level.

There is no way that the Angels are interested in Arenado unless the Cards pick up 30-35 million of the remaining money. Also, they may net Ferris in return, but no chance they get Dana unless they are including Nootbar.

He has 2/$37M left from the Cardinals, with the Rockies covering an additional $5M. Cardinals were OK with paying $15M-$20M in the deal with Houston last year, so if they did the same this year, that’s roughly 2/$20M left for the acquiring team.

I imagine it wouldn’t be for Farris but for a player even further away who Bloom would hope the new player development initiatives could help.

This site, the Athletic, CBS Sports, and ESPN all place Arenado’s value if he was a FA at $5-6 million per season. It will take more than $20 million to get a trade done unless the Cardinals are willing to take back a bad contract or add players to the mix.

Soler is owed $16 million for one year. If the Cardinals took back his contract and send $10 million they might get a prospect like Gregory-Alford. Otherwise you are talking about them sending $24-25 million to get some lottery ticket outside the Angels top 30 prospects. Someone like Benny Thompson.

The reality is the Cardinals just need to move on. They’re clearly going all in on the kids now. Which will result in 2 million attendance (as opposed to 3), and probably a last place finish. This is starting to already feel like a 100 loss team.

I don’t hate on Arenado. But his salary is the biggest encumbrance right now. He’s still pretty good at 3b. We’d miss that. But his bat is his bat. He seemed hurt to me all year. Or just SO SLOW at the plate reaction-wise that age has caught up to him. I hate that less than the Club and he does. But it’s time to move on for all parties.

His salary is the least of the Cardinals’ worries. That’s not why they’re trying to trade him.

That’s because he WAS hurt, or he was from July to mid-September. The rest of the year, his bat was perfectly decent.

And by the way…40 man roster spots have value, that’s how the Angels lost Kirby Yates. I’m not a big fan giving up these spots, especially when a team has no chance to compete.

They have a stated need for a veteran RH OF, and this deal saves them spending that money.

Simply a case of a warm body, even one who struggles to break into a run, being better than nothing. Even as a DH/bench bat he has some value in mitigating the Cards huge weakness against LHP.

I guess it could work if the Cardinals get an asset for taking on Soler, but the Angels system is so weak that I don’t see them giving up anything more than a lottery ticket. Cardinals are probably looking to add a young RH OF like Jonathan Rodriguez who fits the timeline and would offer competition, based on Bloom’s comments. Maybe they go for a versatile FA like Willi Castro if they move Donovan soon.

Arenado was willing to waive his no trade to play for the Angels last season and they have a huge hole at 3B. He would actually be an upgrade on defense and offense for them.

I don’t see the Cardinals giving up prospects to rid themselves of Arenado, so maybe $16 million in salary the next 2 years? Cardinals get a lottery ticket back.

I don’t think Arenado is worthy of being anything more than a bench player at this point. He has lost most of his power hitting ability, without that, he’s really got not much left to offer, he already was one of the slowest baserunners in the game, his defense is still adequate but isn’t what it used to be either… there’s just no real value to be had with him unless they got him for practically nothing. The Angels seem like the ultimate dumpster fire in MLB, they are ruined by Trout’s contract, there’s no getting around it. Arenado seems like a perfect fit there.

Rendon kept doing the rehab to come back from severe injuries. Players that hate baseball don’t do that. That you question that says two things. One you have never had to rehab from anything. Two that you have never done anything at a high level.

Only do this if the Cards eat his salary or at least half. It’s not worth it this late in his career. But if you pay him minimal salary you can afford to platoon him or use him as a super utility/DH if you need to.

Arenado would start at 3B and be an improvement on Moncada and the rest of the players we suffered through there last season.

At the right price. Otherwise, he’s 34 & trending downward. I’d not give up a top prospect at all. But the Angels need someone to keep 3rd base warm until they can develop or trade for a good prospect.

If Angels get Okamoto to LF, then I’d be ok with Arenado and Romero for Soler with Jack Kochanowicz and move money around. Nolan is owed $37M by STL and Soler, $16M.

Is this a joke? Angels restructure Rendon contract and get him off the roster and want to sign this guy?

    I don’t totally hate this.

Of course, the devil is in the details, so if the Halos don’t give up much (low A lottery ticket) and can provide some reasonable salary relief ($15M over 2 years ?) for the Cardinals, this could work for both sides.

Until this past season, Arenado has been remarkably healthy throughout his career, going a full decade of 600+ PA’s. That’s impressive. Anthony Rendon, he is not.

Of course, he’s older now, so the tricky question is: was last year the beginning of the end, or just an anomaly?

If he can remain somewhat healthy and play 130-140 games, odds are that he could put up league average offensive numbers (projections say he could), while still providing very good defense.

That would make him a 2.5-3 WAR player, which would have placed him second (!!) amongst position players on the Angels last year,

This could also keep the seat warm while giving Denzer Guzman some time to hone his skills, or find a Plan B.

So, yeah, go ahead and kick the tires on this, he could be helpful, but he definitely comes with age risk.

True they’ve had some bad luck, but that might be over.

What if I told you that the Angels were 20th in days lost to injury last season? And a big chunk of *that* was you-know-who.

(Dodgers, Astros, and Mets were 1-2-3)

Relatively speaking, the Halos were pretty healthy last season.

But to your point, Arenado is older and older players are always risky.

with the angels freeing up some financial resources, it would make sense if they checked in on bellinger or tucker.

arenado would be a rental ofc
hes owed money, so the cards would have to eat some like they did the last 2 trades w/ boston, but angels would have to give something decent

if they plan to give a final run w/ trout over the next few years, it would be the best time to start., given neto is still under cost control

When I first read the headline I rolled my eyes.

But the more I think about it the more it makes sense. It’s no secret the Angels aren’t close to competing but the same could be said for the Cardinals. So if I were Arenado I’d rather be in SoCal on a bad team versus the Midwest on a bad team especially if he’s from the SoCal area.

As for the Angels it can’t hurt to have a veteran presence like him in the clubhouse while still contributing with the glove and giving average to below average offensive output (weather might help his long balls going forward too in SoCal). If he happens to have a rebound year you could also snag a prospect at the trade deadline and give Arenado one last crack at a ring in a perfect world.

Let’s review the Angels and Perry Moronassian ‘s off season. Can we all say it is a carbon copy of the last three

✅ Trade an established major league hitter with 37 home runs for a pitcher that was a top prospect at one time coming off major arm injuries the last two years and is a huge question mark

✅ Sign a pitcher that was fantastic two years ago. Then forgot how to pitch had major arm injuries and is on his third team in 6 months

✅ Sign a one time highly touted prospect with ties to the braves who cannot hit major league pitching

✅ Sing two pitchers for the bullpen that were both great 6 years ago that will both he DFA candidates by the all star break

✅ Sing a pitcher who is out of options who only has 56 innings of mlb experience and walks to many hitters

✅ Sing a pitcher who was very good before the pandemic then had arm issues and was so bad in the minor he was forced to pitch overseas and wait for it with ties to the Braves

✅ Trade for a middle infielder who at one time could hit but injuries set in and he has not hit above .190 in three years. And guess what. With ties to the braves

✅ Sing a 39 year old reliever who watched his era balloon over five and has hardly pitched due to arm and back problems.

✅ Rendon well SMH LOL 🤮 good riddance. Sums that one up

✅ Hire a manager who has not managed a game in little league let alone the minors or the show and give him a one year deal. PS. This is Moronassian’s 4th managerial hire yes 4.

✅ Be alleged in on Okamoto a player that said naw I’m good I am gonna sing with a team that is worse than yours because they actually have a direction and are improving

✅ allegedly be in on Nolan Arenado a third baseman that was good four years ago and cannot hit now and his current team is so desperate to get rid of the money. He is this years Jorge Soler

Yet still have not filled the holes of CF,3B, now LF back of the rotation closer and anyone that can hit above .230

The quest for 100 losses in in full effect

Operation extreme redundancy is moving along

    Love ya Perry and Artie

Now that Okamoto has signed elsewhere, can Minassian figure a way to trade Rendon’s $38.5M contract to the Cardinals for Arenado straight up? Angels get a bona fide third baseman for two years ($27M in 2026 and $15M in 2027) and the Cardinals shed $3.5M in total contract expense … 3-5 years of the Rendon contract deferral could certainly lighten the annual load for the Cardinals. Maybe toss in Soler and a pitching prospect to sweeten the deal on the Cards side, then Artie won’t even have to sing a check for Rendon ever again!

Those “fans” who constantly try to deflect or diffuse the blame for Moreno really rub me the wrong way. It makes me wonder what motivates them.

Let’s keep it real. 22 years ago, he bought a strong organization fresh off a WS win. He has steadily run things into the ground. It’s been 16 years since this big market team has won a single playoff game.

He is a control freak who micromanages every aspect of the organization and he thinks he’s brilliant for cutting costs everywhere but marketing-based FA moves. He’d rather gaslight fans with false hope than actually build a winner. And some think it’s some kind of shared blame? It isn’t. He’s the only constant here.

Are all of his GM”s incompetent? Maybe. Maybe not. We’ll never know because each of them has had to follow the rigid and stupid self-imposed rules of the Moreno-verse. Blaming the GM’s or anyone besides Moreno is just a way to keep from holding Moreno responsible. He hires and fires anyone in the organization….so, it’s on him no matter what. He’s the OC version of McCourt….which is terrible for Angels fans and the sport in general.

I think the Tigers should be interested IF the Cards package prospects for full salary relief.

    That’s a lot of money.(~$40M+)
They paid slightly over $7M for Doyle. Tink is still floundering around somewhere in the minor leagues…..

Would St. Louis (Go Satchmo!) have any interest in Lee, Sweeney or Jung…or even Vierling?
Point being Tigers are providing salary relief.

No vision. No urgency. No clue.

If you include his horrible hire of GMs. Then there is no one else to blame. But Minasian is a horrible GM. No one could win with him either.

Derangement Syndrome is very common. It prohibits people from seeing clearly. I can think of a couple things I like about Moreno, but I can’t think of anything I like about Minasian. So maybe it affects me as well. If you can’t think of anything you like about someone, there is a good chance you suffer from derangement syndrome.

But I honestly can’t think of one thing Minasian has shown a level of competence. Not one. At least Moreno brought in a multiple MVPs, Hall of Famer, Cy Young Winner, drafted one of the greatest pitchers in Angels history the greatest player in Angels history and the greatest stretch in Angels history. As much as I want him gone, I can think of some good things. Minasian has done what?
