It’s been 11 years since our iOS app launched. Now, the fully revamped version is almost ready for your iPhone or iPad.
Here’s what’s new:
- Completely rebuilt and modernized interface, so that we can deliver new features and system integrations that we haven’t been able to before, and do so quickly.
- Redesigned comment threads with improvements for composing and replying to comments.
- Quick search for a team or player with the ability to read those feeds without adding them to your saved feeds. Great for quickly looking up things you might care about occasionally without clogging up your primary reading.
- Trade Rumors Front Office content fully available within the app. Just go to the Settings icon in the upper right and log in.
To join the beta test, you’ll first need to download Apple’s TestFlight app from the App Store. Then go here to download the beta version of Trade Rumors. If you already have the old version of the app, the new app will take the place of it on your device.
Send your feedback to traderumorsapp@gmail.com, or leave a comment on this post. We are eager to catch bugs and address other concerns before rolling the app out in the store.
Android user? Don’t worry, we’re revamping our Android app in much the same way. Google seems to make large-group beta testing more difficult on Android, so we’re planning to just test it internally and roll it out to the store when it’s ready.

Oh boy
Another App.
Fantastic, looking forward to the future Android update! I’ve emailed support a handful of times because the Android app keeps logging me out and redirects me to the desktop version for Front Office content (which is extremely hard to read on mobile).
Love love love that you guys are going above and beyond to update the experience!
Meta tester here. member when you were on the CBS MLB page.
Neat, just hope this means some of the random ads I get on the app go away.
For a Trade Rumors Front Office user like you, if you’re logged in you should never see ads.
Yep, sometimes the app randomly logs you out even if you’re a Front Office subscriber, resulting in seeing ads. Looking forward to these new apps fixing that issue.
Tim I have paid for the membership I believe. I know I paid not sure if still in effect. I have changed CCs and debit cards a couple times. Kept getting hacked. Anyway when I sign in to the membership posts for questions I scroll down and it disappears behind the article. Not sure if I am still a member or did not change the card. Or the best way is to use the checking account that doesn’t expire.
I also have some good and one bad thoughts on the new app. First the bigger pictures are much better. When you get older the bigger is better. It doesn’t always work to make the font bigger. The bad is when typing it doesn’t scroll up so you can check your spelling etc. would be great if you could fix that. Lastly another good. The font on the front is much better. I did not see one that disappears into the background. At times the font would disappear and you had to go into the article to read the headlne. Otherwise love it good job.
Thanks for the feedback! I do not see a membership under the email address associated with your username. If you reach out through our contact form, I’d be happy to explore that further.

This better be on Apple
Yep!
This is what people mean when they say illiteracy is at an all time high. It’s not about not being able to read the words on the screen, it’s about understanding what they mean. “This better be on Apple” in response to an iOS app announcement.
Downloaded, but I think I’ll stick to the website, no ads here.
No ads on app either, if you have membership.
Good one, I’ll give it a go. Thing is I’ve had the website open for years and years on my phone, and I’m just so used to it.
TIL theres an app.
Android issues:
(1) Any time a comment gets a reply, the reply indents. However, when there is a reply to that reply, it indents even further. Since reply comments keep indenting the longer the discussion is, they eventually do not show up. There is then no way to read those from the app. (2) Comments post live on the website, but have delays in the app before appearing, even if refreshing. (3) Comments do not have formatting and all the sentences run together, even if posting as separate paragraphs in the text box. (4) When articles have tables, all formatting is lost. It just runs all the text together.
Yep you can tell you use an Android lol. I have all the same issues. Plus I could never get notifications to work either….Most apps are designed for Apple first and us Android users are left with the scraps 😂.
Interesting
Well, finally got rid of the BlueJays player article that always appeared when loading. I call that a success.
Legit thought I was the only one. Jonathan Diaz!
He’s got to be the most famous DFA in history at this point!
That’s the guy! Diaz!
Haha, I used to see it too. I have no idea why.
What is an iPhone? Is that similar to a rotary dial that I have?
That’s your belly button you’ve been dialing
Legit cracked me up!
Looks great Tim. I had never used the old app so no comparisons. I have already replaced the web version.
I will let you know if there are issues.
Don’t have an iPhone but will there be an app for Android. I saw something on the play store that said MLBTradeRumors but there was only the ability to edit my feed of what news I wanted with notifications. There was no articles to click on.
Yes, we are revamping the Android app as well. Similar to this, we have an old Android app in the store called Trade Rumors.
So the Trade Rumors is just an old app this whole time?! Lol never knew that!…I do prefer having all the sports rumors in one app but it definitely has never been Android friendly.
Tim –
Need in-app navigation – or at least, I could not find any. Also, I am sure you realize, the pictures need to be resized in the new format.
Iphone
What do you mean by in-app navigation?
Which posts have pictures that don’t look right? Generally speaking they look fine to me, though occasionally we’ll pick one where the player’s head gets cut off at the top.
yeah – head’s getting cut off is a great example.
by navigation, I mean like the navigation bar on the website homepage, and also the right rail stories – top 50, next year free agents, etc.
teams, tools, etc
That’s true, the app doesn’t have a spot for those types of links. I’ll give that some consideration, though it’d probably be part of a future phase.
I hope you move the reply button- it prompts me to reply just by scrolling
I’m guessing you’re left handed.
I’m right-handed but hold the phone in my left hand so I can type with my right (or sometimes my right hand might be holding the TV remote or a snack). Scrolling with left thumb sometimes hits reply as the commenter notes.
Substack has the same issue.
Articles usually are faded when they are read. Currently not happening on Beta app
@Tim,
Comments showing break html.
I’ve recorded one example of that – the first comment on this post actually, where it shows for me. If you have others could you please email one to traderumorsapp@gmail.com?
I’m actually excited to hear this because the current app is not great
I’ve went to post here twice and a screen popped up and stated crashed.
Also
In order for me to look at I have to scroll up or down by only touching a certain area of my screen or it won’t move
Will the thumbs down option be brought back?
Will the ios app work on an iPad? My phone is Android, but I use an iPad, too.
Yes, it should work on iPad.
If it’s not already a thing there should be a similar bell to the webpage where you can see if people have replied to comments and such.
IPHONE 17 USER: Downloaded the beta. Still shows the ads placeholder at the bottom even though I’m a Front Office subscriber.
Also, will the windows adjust for different font sizes that are part of the accessibility feature?
Did you log in?
I’m not quite sure on the second thing yet.
Tim, this is a great rebuild/refresh. My only suggestion would be a font update. Something smooth and rounded. But other than that, it’s perfect. Thanks for all the hard work!
Do notifications work again? They stopped a month back after I got a new phone.
No, they still don’t work. Double checked app and iPhone settings. iPhone 17
We have one other report today of notifications not working. But they do work for me and I think most testers, so we’ll have to get to the bottom of it. Do you have the MLB feed set up to provide notifications on all stories?
Yup, all stories for several feeds. MLB, NHL, Tigers, etc. No notifications for any. Is this an iPhone thing? Come to think of it, I have 1 other app not sending notifications since I got a new phone. All my other apps work. It’s weird.
It looks better so far. There may be an issue joining the front office chat today. No link showing after tapping “existing members.”
Get prompted to log in again and then back to article about the chat, with no link to join or send queries in early.
This keeps happening to me too.
Is it suppose to look the same? I still cant search for specific teams or anything
It looks somewhat different but functions similarly. Please email traderumorsapp@gmail.com and we can look at screen shots and see what’s going on.
@Tim Dierkes
Kept freezing up on beta app and I had to delete it, once I opened a story it would not scroll.
Modern yet familiar.
Picked up subscription status from the original app.
No adds. Scrolling is smooth.
So far so good.
Well done and thanks for putting cycles into the app.
Another thought can you make it so you can request an email or text when someone responds to your post? There are times I don’t care if someone responds then some I would love to see it. This gets rid of the having to search for it. If not for individual posts how about all posts? Can we get notifications on all our posts? One post I made a few days ago I was like 63-65th post. I went back later and there were over 650 posts. I was down in the middle of the pack. Everyone seemed to do most of their posts up in the first comments. A top seceret that you can’t tell is more fans read the posts you post closer to the top.
So far it works great. I always had a bit of trouble or got slow links when clicking within an article. With the new app it is almost instant. Love it
Tim, it would be nice on the new app (I have Android version) if we could access the great web features that you have (free agent lists, contract trackers, etc.). Thanks!
So far it looks good on iPhone. Seems more “ up front” with the pictures and text – more legible and a little more fluid.
Ran it before logging in and ads seemed minimal as well on the bottom. Looking great logged in, too
Someone mentioned it above, but it is worth repeating… anything to accommodate or facilitate left-handed userers would be much appreciated. It is like a disease. Or at least a disability. EVERYTHING is made for right-handed people!
I appreciate how thoughtfully TR does these things. I won’t name specific places but I have been parts of other sports communities where awful changes were just rolled out forcefully with no regard for feedback or user satisfaction. There was one particular baseball community that rolled out a system so buggy I stopped going altogether.
