The Mets and Brewers are in discussions about star right-hander Freddy Peralta, according to reports from Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated and Jon Heyman of The New York Post. There’s no deal in place, but The Post’s Joel Sherman characterizes talks as “serious.” Ragazzo adds that middle infield/center field prospect Jett Williams has come up in conversations.
This morning, Michael Marino reported that Milwaukee was looking to acquire Williams and rookie right-hander Brandon Sproat in a Peralta deal. According to Marino, the Mets rebuffed earlier interest from the Brew Crew in top pitching prospect Jonah Tong. Meanwhile, Sherman adds that swingman Tobias Myers would likely head from Milwaukee to Queens if a deal gets across the finish line.
Peralta has been a top target for teams in need of rotation help. He’s coming off a fifth place Cy Young finish behind 176 2/3 innings of 2.70 ERA ball. The Mets have been in the rotation market all offseason but haven’t been keen on making long-term free agent commitments. President of baseball operations David Stearns reiterated this morning that he still hoped to add a starter (link via Jorge Castillo of ESPN).

Go home Mettys, you’re drunk
Lol, lets see who they take home at the end of the night
God bless you Mutts!!!
The deal appears to be a done deal. Sproat and Williams for Peralta.
Enjoy Jett Williams Brew Crew
Sproat and Williams is an overpay but Mets seem kind of desperate here.
Depend if they re-sign him or not. Not likely though.
Is Peralta a Boras client? If not, they could have a chance to negotiate an extension after the trade, assuming it happens. There is the issue that Stearns hates long-term contracts with pitchers.
Not a Boras client – ACES
horaceallen:
Overpay? You have to give something to get something. Peralta is a really good pitcher and I know he only has one year on his deal but is only making $8 million, I believe. If they are not giving up McLean, Benge, or Tong, that’s a victory.
Sounds like McLean and probably Benge are untouchable. Williams and Tong seem likely to be included
Bill M:
No, just Jett Williams and Sproat. I’m very happy with that.
Get Myers too. Shouldn’t be overlooked
A 1-2 of a top tier SP and McLean would be very strong
Just don’t trade Benge or Tong
That was my exact comment I was gonna say lol anybody but those two.
Agreed. Sproat and Williams for Peralta seems like an overpay. Maybe Sproat + Williams + one more (Mauricio?) for Peralta + Megill?
It says that Tobias Myers would probably be included which would be a nice get for the Mets.
He’ll be expensive prospect wise, but the Mets have a good system. One will have to be a MLB-ready pitcher to replace Peralta. Tong?
Sproat, Mets aren’t trading tong for 1 year of anybody except maybe Skubal.
A blockbuster coming. Getting Peralta is wanting to win.
yankees should trade dominguez, gil ,(escarra?) for peralta
Too bad. Mets are already getting him
yeah. sucks
@Yanks
Dominguez and Gil aren’t prospects they’re going controllable guys that have shown success. The fact that you value them like unproven prospects is crazy.
I still wonder after trading for Peralta if the Mets will go to San Diego and also try and swing a deal for Pivetta.
I wouldn’t, they can sign a cheaper option in ex—Met Bassitt he’s a FA
Good call. That would make a lot of sense.
They have a ton of depth at SP and Pivetta is a bit of a wild card. I don’t see how he would be a huge upgrade over Holmes, Senga, Peterson, Manaea.
ReyDay, agreed. Pivetta was great last year. Pretty mid before that.
I imagine Peterson would be in a potential Pivetta deal – Pivetta is a better pitcher than nearly all the guys you just listed based off of last year. Padres want to move off that salary and potentially acquire 1-2 other starting pitchers with the money he would be making in 2026 from what I read. I still think the Mets deal Senga in the next few weeks – Baltimore for Mountcastle???
Acquiring Peralta could easily make the difference in Mets making the postseason. But the cost could set them back in subsequent years.
They’ll probably extend Peralta.
Freddy was pitching with a wrist injury towards the end of the season. My sister was at the Pat Murphy tour. That’s what was said when someone asked about Freddy
How do you set back a team that’s willing to pay bichette 40m or Tucker 50…
They have to be considered a playoff team already tho I’d think
Ooh, “ conversations “. I had a conversation with my dogs tonight. Steve Cohen is a fake wannabe baseball owner.
Did we take our medication today ??
It is Heyman so take the trade talks about Frankie Peralta with a grain of salt. 🤣
I’m afraid to see who they give up for a one year rental.
Something like what the Brewers gave up. I mocked Sproat, Baty, and Clifford.
I feel like if Clifford is dealt, it would be for one of the Reds’ SP.
Then they would have a Big Red Prospect.
Brandon Sproat, Brett Baty, and Ryan Clifford for Freddy Peralta. Something like that.
That might do it especially with the risk of Peralta walking away. The Brewers would solve 3B, get a good young starting pitcher that is ready and potentially a decent power bat.
It would be so fitting for a top payroll team like the Mets or Dodgers to land one of the cheapest and best starting pitchers from a small market club like the Brewers just ahead of the expiring CBA. 🙁
It’s the way the food chain works – MLB is no different than the animal kingdom. Generally, large eats smaller without guilt..
huge mistake letting jett go
for 1 yr of peralta
Jett’s probably too small to be a productive hitter in the majors. Yes, I’ve heard of Jose Altuve, but guys like him are vanishingly rare. Also the Mets have absolutely no place to play him.
Exactly Seamaholic, Mets have Lindor for 6 more years, Seminen for 3 more years, Reimier in the minors, Elian Pena in the minors. Unless they planned on putting him in the OF which he hasn’t played much in the minors there’s really not a lot of room for him besides a super utility.
Yeah but so many of these cant miss prospects, miss.
Please Reds, call the Mets FO and get in on an overpay !
Krall is still sitting on his hands as usual.
Mets trade for Peralta, Orioles sign Valdez, Gallen signs with…?
Honestly, the Mets trading for Peralta then signing Gallen to a fairly high AAV 2 year deal with an opt out after year 1 feels kind of plausible.
Gallen is the guy left holding the bag this year. Bet he ends up on a pillow. Lot of red flags and he’s been rumored to want 5 years.
I personally have no interest in him for anymore than the QO salary over 2 years.
He’s just a guy I wouldn’t go over 2 guaranteed years on right now under almost any circumstances. He’s young enough that he could bounce right back and have several more good years ahead of him, but I’m not willing to bet big on it happening at the moment after his ugly 2025.
Id agree, Gallen needs to prove he’s still got it if he wants a big payday. Pillow contract makes a lot of sense for him.
Man it’s about to be sproat’s 25 year old getting his fastball hit at a high clip having behind 🙄🙄
Perfect trade would be Peralta and Megill. Maybe Jett Williams, Senga and pitching prospect/s (not McLean, Tong or Sproat)
Why would the Brewers want Senga? He’s 14 million salary. Also, nobody is going to let McLean go and the Brewers are asking for Sproat.
Great big market thinking. We want, arguably, your 2 best pitchers. But we don’t want to part with any of our top prospects. We will also throw in a hack in Senga that’s salary is way above Peralta. Yikes. Delusional is an understatement.
Cue the copium crowd if this comes off. “Overpay!” “Missed Playoffs”.
Cubs/Angels/Braves.
Wait why are we giving up something else too. How is this 💩 gonna be worse than the burnes trade. Are you effing kidding me
Brewers window is gone, or will be in a year if they don’t make this trade. Sucks to be even a good, very well run small market team. This is why things need to change, stat.
Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat for Freddy Peralta and Tobias Meyers. Seems fair to me. Probably an overpay for the Mets, but they need a championship.
As a Mets fan, I’m fine with this deal. I think this is likely what it will be. As long as they can keep Tong out of it I’m happy.
Seems like more than a little bit of an overpay. I expected the price on Peralta to be an overpay for the Crew to deal him though.
Why do you say it’s an overpay? Myers is under team control till 2031 and Peralta is a front line SP only making 8M seems very reasonable to me. Sproat could be special but he struggled a lot last year in minors and Jett has potential but more than likely turns out to be just an average starter.
Nearly all of that value is Peralta. Myers is a generic swingman who I’ve followed since the O’s drafted. Likely to be nontendered before all of his control is up. That’d be 2 top 100 guys and I think Sproat has a good chance to be a solid mid rotation starter for a long time.
Why have all the rumours for Peralta been from the brewers biggest competition ?
… and in the battle to win the offseason, here come the Mets with an exciting late flurry!
Peralta and Myers for Sproat, Tong, and Williams is fair. I’d rather have Tong than Sproat since U of F pitchers always turn out to be mediocre at best when compared to their draft position. Singer just passed Desclafani as the best U of F pitcher of all time.
So Tong is needed or they need to supplement the deal to get Myers included.
Peralta only has one year of control. Brewers ain’t getting near Tong, and they apparently aren’t even asking.
That’s why Myers is included. Sproat and Williams for peralta is fine. But, Myers should include Tong considering the control, or two other prospects.
I was wrong. Apparently the brewers are dumb enough to think Sproat will be passable.
Myers for Tong is a laughable addition. Myers was bumped from the rotation because he was an overachiever whose cracks started to show last year. I expect he’ll be a mid-high 4’s ERA swingman at best in NY this year.
Sproat isn’t worth the $50k claim. Hes a Florida pitcher, meaning he’s garbage. Thats why tong should be included. To offset the stink of Sproat
Too much ham today?
I stopped eating ham after I saw Steve Cohen’s “honey baked” teeth.
I can live with Sproat and Jett going to Milwaukee for Peralta. I’d prefer to have Megill included in the trade tho.
Mets need to do something to keep up. Shoot for Peralta or Skubal and pray the Dodgers don’t outbid them so they can have all the toys.
Skubal would start with Tong and McClean then the mets add from there.
Glad to see all these plucky, small-time teams make good this offseason.
Honestly I think this trade could include Megill too then maybe the Brewers get Tong, Benge, and Williams plus a lottery pick.
Hopeful they get a deal done regardless who its for, itd be waste to let him walk in free agency,
Or, he could stay and help you win a division
The Brewers first and only movie this winter. Somehow they’ll still win 90 games. 😂
This trade will go through unless Friedman says, “whoa, wait a minute boys, someone hold my beer.”
I cannot imagine JUST Williams and Sproat for Peralta AND Myers who’s a pretty decent secondary piece. I can see the Mets including Baty or Vientos in there especially with Milwaukee’s need at 3rd.
That’s more than Burnes cost. Seems about right. I think Sproat will be developed into a very good starter in Milwaukee.
Jett is pretty blocked in NY at the moment and he’d be an outlier at that size to become a real impact major leaguer..
