Gammons: Red Sox Focused On Montero
Peter Gammons did a chat today with Boston Globe readers, and he discussed Boston’s pursuit for a catcher.
The Red Sox "seem focused" on Arizona catcher Miguel Montero, with Jarrod Saltalamacchia remaining a possibility. The Red Sox so far will not give up Michael Bowden for Montero. Gammons notes the Sox made failed runs at Russell Martin and Mike Napoli.

Chad Cordero To Audition Friday

WEDNESDAY: MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy says Cordero will throw Friday, and the Brewers will be in attendance. They’ve already seen him throw once. The Rangers will also be there.
TUESDAY, 9:57pm: MLB.com’s Jason Beck says the Tigers are also expected to watch Cordero throw.
1:37pm: Nick Piecoro says the D’Backs will be one of the teams in attendance at Cordero’s audition. Chico Harlan says the Nationals will also attend.

Teams known to be interested based on reports: the Angels, Mets, Cardinals, D’Backs, Rangers, and Tigers.
Renck On Redding, Fogg, Jennings
Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post weighs in on various free agent pitchers.
- The Rockies are a long shot for Tim Redding following their Jason Marquis acquisition. The Mets and Orioles still like him; he may command $2.5-3MM.
- Josh Fogg would like to return to Colorado, but has drawn interest from other teams as well.
- The Rangers and D’Backs are interested in Jason Jennings. Jennings missed most of the season after signing with Texas for $4MM. He had surgery in May to repair a torn flexor tendon in his forearm.
- The Mets are one team with an eye on outfielder Cory Sullivan.
Rosenthal On Dunn, Angels, Garland, Roberts
Let’s take a look at the latest from Ken Rosenthal.
- The Dodgers won’t go after Adam Dunn until they exhaust their options with Manny Ramirez. Rosenthal likes the Dunn-L.A. match. Should Dunn opt for a one-year deal so he can try his hand at a weaker free agent market?
- Rosenthal wonders if Tony La Russa and/or Albert Pujols will depart if the Cardinals do not contend in coming seasons.
- The Angels are not in on any hitter currently, but could engage in trade talks this summer if necessary.
- Rosenthal drives home just how difficult it would be for the Mets to move Luis Castillo. He says the team wants to bring in a capable backup infielder such as Alex Cora, David Eckstein, or Craig Counsell.
- The D’Backs made offers for Jon Garland and Brad Penny, but Penny signed with Boston and they’re out on Garland. Rosenthal says the D’Backs still aren’t necessarily in the market for a starter.
- A Brian Roberts trade is said to be a "growing possibility."
D-backs GM, CEO Unlikely To Leave
Despite former CEO Jeff Moorad leaving the Arizona Diamondbacks for San Diego Padres ownership, two of his trusted colleagues will likely not follow him.
Current Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall and general manager Josh Byrnes have small ownership stakes in the Arizona franchise. That will likely keep the duo in place, The Arizona Republic’s Nick Piecoro reports.
Hall and Byrnes each received contracts that run through 2015. Moorad negotiated both deals, Piecoro added.
D’Backs CEO Resigns, Will Attempt To Buy Padres
The Arizona Republic reports that Jeff Moorad has resigned from his post as CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks in an attempt to acquire the San Diego Padres with a "small but significant" group of investors. Moorad has reached an "agreement in principle" to buy the Padres.
Team president Derrick Hall was promoted to President and CEO in Arizona. Padres fans will hope that Moorad and his group’s purchase of the team might put a halt to all of the cost-cutting. Current Padres owner John Moores is going through a pricey divorce that is seemingly dragging down the entire franchise.
D’Backs Re-Sign Tony Clark
According to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick, the Diamondbacks have re-signed Tony Clark to a one-year deal worth about $800K. Clark, 36, .225/.359/.318 in 184 plate appearances for the Padres and D’Backs this year. His power seems to come and go.
