Poll: How Will The Braves Replace Chipper?

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | August 12, 2010 at 3:45pm CDT

Braves GM Frank Wren will meet with Bobby Cox and the team's scouts to decide how to replace Chipper Jones, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (on Twitter). They could rely on Martin Prado, Omar Infante, Brooks Conrad and Eric Hinske, or they could look to acquire a player from outside the organization. Tell us what you think Wren & Co. will do:

Poll: Which Team Will End Its Playoff Drought First?

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | August 11, 2010 at 4:38pm CDT

The Reds (1995) and Rangers (1999) may end long playoff droughts this year. Neither team has any guarantees, but both seem well-equipped to re-appear in the postseason before long. Let’s set those two clubs aside for today’s poll question and consider the seven other teams with the longest running droughts: the Nationals (as Expos, 1981), Royals (1985), Pirates (1992), Blue Jays (1993), Orioles (1997), Mariners (2001) and Marlins (2003).

Poll: Baseball’s Most Impressive Team

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | August 10, 2010 at 5:37pm CDT

Yesterday, MLBTR readers determined that the Mariners are baseball's most disappointing team. But for every disappointing team, there's an impressive team. The Yankees, Rays, Cardinals, Phillies and Giants have been strong, as expected. The Braves, Reds, Padres and Rangers broke out with big seasons. And the White Sox, who nearly gave up on their season, have been unstoppable since the first week of June. Taking into account pre-season expectations, let's vote:

Which team has had the most impressive season so far?

Poll: Baseball’s Most Disappointing Team

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | August 9, 2010 at 5:45pm CDT

The Orioles, Royals, Marlins, Diamondbacks and, most recently, the Mariners have all fired their managers this season, but they are certainly not baseball's only disappointing teams. Some clubs, like the Tigers and Red Sox, have seen injuries compromise their playoff chances. Others, like the Cubs and Brewers, have seen key players underperform. Let's determine which team has been most disappointing of all this year, taking into account pre-season hopes expectations.

Poll: The Most Active Team In August

By Mike Axisa | August 8, 2010 at 9:34am CDT

The July 31st non-waiver trade deadline gets all the attention, but we've also seen many quality players change teams in August as well. Just last year Carl Pavano, Scott Kazmir, Billy Wagner, and Ivan Rodriguez were traded after July 31st, among several others. The Dodgers went out and acquired Jim Thome, Jon Garland, and Ronnie Belliard to strengthen their roster down the stretch with a trio of August moves.

Which team will be the most active during the August waiver trade period?

Poll: Which First Round Picks Will Sign?

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | August 6, 2010 at 10:27am CDT

As usual, many top draftees remain unsigned with ten days remaining before the deadline to sign picks. Last year, first overall pick Stephen Strasburg agreed to a deal with the Nationals just seconds before the deadline. This year, top picks Bryce Harper, Jameson Taillon and Manny Machado remain unsigned, but that's to be expected.

Which first round picks will sign by the August 16th deadline? (Feel free to vote for multiple players)

Poll: Which Team Will Sign Carlos Delgado?

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | August 5, 2010 at 12:01pm CDT

Carlos Delgado wants to make a comeback and he is drawing interest from MLB teams. The White Sox, Rockies, Mariners, Red Sox and Rays could all make sense under the right circumstances. Delgado is returning from a hip operation and isn't the same player who once hit 30 homers or more for ten consecutive years. Still, he has been a productive bat into his late 30s and could help a team that needs a left-handed slugger to DH, pinch hit and contribute at first base.

Poll: Which Clubs Will Make A Late-Season Surge?

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | August 4, 2010 at 8:00pm CDT

Eight clubs are between 6.0 and 8.0 games out of a playoff spot. We have seen incredible hot streaks and collapses this past decade, as Rockies, Astros and Mets fans know well. We may see another late-season surge this year, so it's time to ask an important question.

Poll: Are The Dodgers Still In It?

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | August 3, 2010 at 9:31pm CDT

The odds are against the Dodgers, but they aren't necessarily out of contention. As MLBTR's Tim Dierkes showed, the Dodgers could shift from buy mode to sell mode if they don't start playing better. How imperative is a turnaround? They trail the division-leading Padres by 9.0 games and the Wild Card-leading Giants by 7.0 games. Baseball Prospectus' postseason odds report calculates that the Dodgers had a 3% chance of making the playoffs this morning.

The team acquired Ted Lilly, Scott Podsednik and Octavio Dotel before the July 31st trade deadline, but they have lost six consecutive games and are 54-52. Manny Ramirez should return from the DL, but he recently suffered a setback, according to Steve Dilbeck of the LA Times. Once Manny's healthy, he and Ned Colletti's deadline acquisitions could combine to turn the team around, but there are no guarantees. Tell us what you think:

Are the Dodgers contenders?

Poll: Trade Deadline’s Biggest Winner

By Luke Adams 2 | August 1, 2010 at 9:24am CDT

With the July 31st trade deadline behind us, it's time to take a look back at which clubs made the best moves this weekend. Was it a team like the Yankees or the Padres, who added multiple major league players to contribute to a postseason run? Or maybe it was a seller like the Astros or Diamondbacks, who moved big contracts and added promising young talent for the future.

Click here to vote for the deadline's biggest winner, and here to view the results.
