Kinzer On Ramirez, Capps, Lindsay

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | November 14, 2011 at 6:15pm CDT

Agent Paul Kinzer confirmed to reporters today that Aramis Ramirez won’t re-sign with the Cubs. Here are the details plus more notes from the exchange (all links go to Twitter):

  • Kinzer says Ramirez won’t be re-signing in Chicago. “That ship has sailed,” he said, according to MLB.com’s Carrie Muskat.
  • Ramirez is looking for a four-year deal or a three-year deal with an option, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
  • Twins GM Terry Ryan expressed interest in re-signing Matt Capps, according to Rosenthal.
  • Kinzer has been getting lots of calls on Capps, but the Nationals haven’t called on the reliever, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post. Kinzer expects the Blue Jays will have interest, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca, and the agent could see the Mets expressing interest, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
  • The White Sox and many other teams are interested in Shane Lindsay, the Australian right-hander who elected free agency last month, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune.

Minor Moves: Shane Lindsay

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | October 19, 2011 at 8:35pm CDT

We’ll keep track of the day’s minor moves right here…

  • Shane Lindsay elected free agency, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America. The White Sox had outrighted the right-hander to create roster space last week. Lindsay, a native of Melbourne, Australia, had a cameo with the White Sox this year after spending most of the season in the upper minors. He posted a 2.18 ERA in the minors despite an alarming walk rate of 7.5 per nine innings. Lindsay did strike out 11.5 batters per nine in 70 1/3 combined innings at Double-A and Triple-A.
  • Eddy has more on the latest minor transactions from around baseball.

White Sox Sign Kinney, Lindsay

By Steve Adams | January 9, 2011 at 3:09pm CDT

The White Sox have signed Josh Kinney and Shane Lindsay to minor league deals, according to Doug Padilla of ESPNChicago.com. Both are expected to receive non-roster invitations to Spring Training.

Kinney will be 32 on Opening Day and has seen Major League time with the Cardinals over parts of three seasons, most recently in 2009. He owns a career 4.56 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 7.2 K/9, and 3.8 BB/9 over 47 2/3 innings. His minor league numbers are more impressive: a 2.78 ERA over 514 1/3 innings with a strong 8.6 K/9. His 2010 was particularly impressive, as he posted a 1.80 ERA and 0.93 WHIP through 60 innings of work, striking out 7.6 per nine along the way.

Lindsay, 25, has never reached the Majors, likely due to his big-time control issues (career 6.6 BB/9). The Australia native makes up for that to some extent with his career 12.4 K/9. Lindsay began 2010 with the Rockies but was claimed off waivers by the Yankees and then the Indians early in the season. He struggled to the tune of a 5.80 ERA last year, but Baseball America has praised his mid-90s fastball and knuckle curve. He'll turn 26 in a couple of weeks, so he still has time to put it together.

Shane Lindsay Clears Waivers

By Zachary Links | June 28, 2010 at 3:27pm CDT

MONDAY: The Indians assigned Lindsay to AA, according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer (via Twitter).

FRIDAY: The Indians have designated Shane Lindsay for assignment, according to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince (via Twitter).  The move was made in order to clear room for Jayson Nix, who was picked up off of waivers earlier this afternoon.

Lindsay, 25, was claimed off of waivers from the Yankees on the first of the month, two weeks after the Yanks claimed him from the Rockies.  In 13.2 innings for Colorado's Triple A affiliate this year, the righthander posted a 6.59 ERA with 19 Ks and 17 walks.  Baseball America's Prospect Handbook questioned if the Australian could ever stay healthy enough to capitalize on his raw ability.

Indians Claim Shane Lindsay

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | June 1, 2010 at 3:01pm CDT

The Indians claimed Shane Lindsay off waivers from the Yankees, according to a team press release. It's the second time in the last month that Lindsay has been claimed on waivers; the Yankees claimed him from the Rockies on May 14th. To make room for the 25-year-old right-hander on the 40-man roster, the Indians transferred Grady Sizemore from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.

Lindsay, who was designated for assignment when the Yankees signed Chad Gaudin, did not pitch in a game after the Yankees assigned him to extended spring training. Lindsay began the year at Triple A Colorado Springs, where he posted 11.2 BB/9 and 12.5 K/9. The Australian has always walked lots of batters, but he has some promise. Baseball America praised Lindsay's mid-90s fastball and knuckle-curve in their 2010 handbook
