« Rockies Sign Randy Flores | Main | Francoeur Not Budging In Arb Case »
According to MLB.com's Bill Ladson, the Nationals have dropped out of the running for free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson.
General manager Jim Bowden declined to give a reason why Hudson will not be a member of the team, writes Ladson.
The Nationals must feel comfortable with what they have in Ronnie Belliard, Anderson Hernandez, Alberto Gonzalez and Willie Harris. Belliard and Hernandez would seem to be the front-runners for the starting second base job. Belli hit .287/.372/.473 with 11 homers and 46 RBI in 96 games last season, and Hernandez batted .333 with 17 RBI in 28 games after coming over from the Mets in late August.

If the Mets aren't going to sign a lefty reliever or an OF, then they should at the very least make an offer to the O-Dawg...

All ours baby... The O Dawg will look good in Dodger blue

STL, where you at on the O-Dawg? You just released a Adam Kennedy, why not look at Huddie? He could be a steal.

Just released Adam Kennedy*

I still think the Yankees should sign him & see if he can play CF.
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Teixeira 1B
Rodriguez 3B
Nady RF
Matsui DH
Posada C
Cano 2B
Hudson CF
It's crazy but I like it.

Dodgers - Think Casey Blake and Blake DeWitt might have something to say about Hudson in Dodger blue?
Cardinals - Already said they are out on Cabrera and Hudson and will replace Kennedy internally.
Yankees - Come on REALLY? Teix, Burnett and Sabathia wasn't enough for you Yanks fans? Seriously...Nady and Swisher are both going to be fighting to make the club and the other traded. Signing O-Dawg for the OF means they both get traded?
I think KC. I've posted on Royals forums, it just makes too much sense.
Dayton Moore wants a vet middle infielder to pair with Aviles, and Jacobs and Butler's defense won't be so obvious with a quality 2b throwing over to them.
Abreu signing for 5 million REALLY shows how low the market has dropped.

It seems pretty clear that the Cardinals will not be adding payroll.
The Mets will not sign Hudson, either - Castillo is the starting 2B.

the dodgers are not convinced(i think) that Dewitt will be able to handle a full yr. we threw 2nd base on him after we got Blake and he didnt have a lot of time to learn it. my guess is, because he strugled after the first few months and espically in the playoffs, remember that he wasn't expected to be in the majors until this yr or next. so we can let him have a year and sign hudson 1/3 or even 2/6

Nats aren't getting Hudson because they will acquire Dan Uggla in the morning.
Posted by: estuartj | February 12, 2009 at 08:57 PM
Dbacks should of held out for Hudson at this point they could of got him.

My guess: Cubs.
I just see it happening. Gives them that leadoff hitter that everybody has been talking about for the last two GD years.

When did Ned Colletti NOT sign a veteran because he would be blocking a young player/prospect?
Posted by: melonis rex | February 12, 2009 at 10:10 PM
Melonis, i would really call hudson a leadoff hitter. he is more of a 2, some pop, good contact, speed, but he isnt fast enough to be a leadoff, like B. Roberts or Furcal
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | February 12, 2009 at 10:38 PM
I wouldnt mind seeing Hudson in a Braves uniform opening night in Philly.
This would would move K. Johnson to LF (just like we intended to do with Furcal).
Imagine something like this:
Johnson
Hudson
Escobar
C. Jones
McCann
Francoeur
Kotchman
Anderson/Shafer
I know escobar doesnt have great power numbers so far, but he did bulk up about 15 pounds this offseason in muscle. If he could hit .280/22/90 for us, it would be great.
But im just having fun here. Nothing is for sure.
GO BRAVES.

estuartj-
I'd go for an Uggla trade. He just became too expensive for Florida.

I like the idea of Hudson going to the Braves and moving Kelly Johnson to left to help out with that outfield of theirs.
All in all, I find it hard to believe that not a single team out there needs a solid second baseman. I personally still think Hudson will end up with the Dodgers or the White Sox.

if the nats dont sign him, its a mistake. $$ can't be an issue because most of the free agnts are all bargains(except for cc&tex) and wont be signing long term deals. all of the guys they're talking about at 2nd are servicable but none are type of the order hitters.
