Blue Jays Claim Brian Jeroloman

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | November 23, 2011 at 2:55pm CDT

Less than a week after losing Brian Jeroloman on waivers, the Blue Jays have re-claimed him.  The team announced that it has claimed the 26-year-old catcher from the Pirates.  Toronto's 40-man roster now has one open spot.

The Pirates claimed Jeroloman off of waivers from Toronto on Friday but designated the catcher for assignment on Monday to make room for the newly-acquired Clint Barmes.  In 318 Triple-A plate appearances this year, Jeroloman hit .240/.335/.295.

Nah, Jays seem to love their career minor leaguers. See: Chad Mottola.

I wonder if Jeroloman is protected from the rule 5 draft or not?  When was he officially waived by the Pirates?

Jeroloman is on the 40 man roster which officialy protects him from the Rule 5 draft

But does it?  Was he on a 40 man roster at the deadline? The deadline was the 18th. If Jeroloman was waived at that time he may not have been on a 40 man roster, so would be open to the draft.

        It could happen…

…if they move the fences in 200 feet, replace the pitchers with a tee, and decide to move the blue jays to the moon.

After the changes in the CBA I wouldn’t be surprised if that really happened.

He needs to “change his approach” like a teammate and 54 is possible…

Hmmmm….maybe AA wanted Jeroloman back because now he can trade players for draft picks & signing bonus cap.

Or maybe after Molina signed with the Rays he’s thinking he might need him as a back up if he can’t find a cheap catcher to back up JP..
