MLBTR Originals

By Connor Byrne | May 29, 2016 at 8:33am CDT

Here’s a look back at MLBTR’s original analysis and reporting over the past seven days:

  • Before the Mets acquired James Loney on Saturday to take the place of the injured Lucas Duda, Jeff Todd combed through a host of possible outside acquisitions to fill in at first base for the club. Jeff wrote that Loney “might be the most obvious and realistic target.”
  • With the season having passed the quarter mark, I examined seven trade candidates whose stock has dropped for performance- or injury-related reasons (or, in some cases, both).
  • Athletics left-hander Rich Hill is another potential trade chip, but unlike the aforementioned septet, his value is soaring. I looked at some of the numbers behind his success and ran down several pitching-needy playoff contenders that could try to acquire the 36-year-old this summer.

The way Rich Hill is pitching the A’s will be getting a top prospect for him. With the lack of starters on the trading block its going to be a all out bidding war for his services.

Well not top. A couple of B grade prospects, yes. The A’s have a bunch of trade chips, Khris Davis, reddick. Valencia. They have a ton of hot players that can get a lot on return.

Davis and Valencia have arbitration years left so no need to trade. Hill will get them a top prospect if he keeps pitching like he has. Somebody always over pays for a starter like even Beane did a couple of years ago.

Beane gave up Addison Russell. Terrible move in Samaridja trade. Just awful. Be he had a better track record then Hill. Hill is no bringing you a top prospect. Only the A’s make that deal and they cant trade with themselves

Look at the package the Reds received for Cueto last year. 3 pitching prospects with Finnegan being KC top prospect. Reed is now their #3 prospect. for the reds. The A’s received 2 very good prospects for Kazmir Mengden who is having a break out season in AAA and Nottingham who they flipped for a guy Davis that hit 13 home runs so far this year. Shows that a good pitcher will get you top prospects in a deal.

Chris Carter would have been the most obvious choice as the Brew Crew is not planning on winning any time soon.
