Mets Release Vance Worley

By Steve Adams | June 22, 2018 at 8:42am CDT

The Mets have released right-hander Vance Worley, reports Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Journal-Review (via Twitter). The veteran right-hander had been on the disabled list with the team’s Triple-A affiliate in Vegas.

Worley, 30, signed with the Mets back in mid-April to provide some rotation depth, but he made just four starts with the 51’s before landing on the disabled list with an elbow issue (per Helfand). The results weren’t pretty in the 16 2/3 inning Worley was healthy enough to pitch, as he was clobbered for 25 runs on 29 hits and a dozen walks with just five strikeouts.

Given the extreme nature of his struggles, it’s perhaps not surprising that he wound up on the DL with elbow troubles. Worley, after all, entered his stint with the Mets with a career 3.55 ERA in 278 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level and a 4.09 ERA in 667 big league innings. While he was coming off one of his worst big league seasons — 6.91 ERA, 6.3 K/9, 3.8 BB/9 in 71 2/3 innings with Miami — it certainly does appear he was pitching at less than 100 percent in his brief time with Vegas.

Depending on the health of his elbow moving forward, Worley could well land with another organization as a depth option in the upper minors later this season. The righty did post a 3.38 ERA (3.98 FIP) in 269 innings from 2014-16 with the Pirates and Orioles.

Why do you care? And you’d find something else to complain about even if they dropped Jose. Go post about a team that you’re actually a fan of.

With a high pitched voice: baseball is not always about a front office being so smart. It’s about a front office avoiding stupidity. Signing all of these has beens falls into that category.

Being such an expert, is there anything to your game except looking at the back of a baseball card and fantasizing?

This is an open dialogue. There are no such childish rules imposed. Your favorite team, which you blindly support is your loyalty. Statistics beat truth, whether this season or the past 50 seasons.

The Mets have simply been ONE of the WORST franchises. Period. No discussion. This is like Monopoly. Simple rules. Don’t stop at go. Don’t collect $20”, though Mutt and Jeff really want you to so that they can skim this as well.

Even if. Please. Reyes for $2 million is as bad a deal as Manhattan for $27; it ain’t going to happen. It’s your fantasy bud, not mine and most REAL baseball fans.

      “Hey Mutt & Jeff . . .”

Once again mikeyank shows up in a Mets thread solely to troll Mets fans. If there isn’t already a rule against this sort of thing perhaps there should be.

There’s a difference between having a difference in opinion and actively trolling.

I’ve ordered warm milk for all of you arm chair general managers. He Know it all’s—Why don’t you take your incredible expertise and prop up the Mets by consulting for Sandy?

FYI—trolling also includes adding commentary that is simply idle chatter about another poster.

Lol—Mister Bill—tell your mommy that she can let in the man with the bandit mask. It’s sluggo—your friend from SNL.

          Oh no………

There’s always a major flaw in Major Flaws bravado. He’s one off them that subscribes to the theory that if they can looks up analytics quickly that they are supreme.

It’s funny. I didn’t know how much humor would be available on a web
        Site/app for know it alls.

With his opinion flawed the Major can easily slip back into the ranks of Mets fans who have stopped posting as the team lacks relevance for 2018.

Like their favorite team, after punching their chests after 12 or so games, feeling the rush of 2015 they became gutted in the reality of Mets history:

False Hope-Disappointment-Drama-and then finally resignation with antagonism.

        Got Metsies!

“With his opinion flawed the Major can easily slip back into the ranks of Mets fans who have stopped posting . . . “

Do the homework, mikeyank, I’m a Nats fan. Been quite open about it. But I’m also a baseball fan, and as a baseball fan I’m bored by your repetitive trolling. Instead of contributing anything substantive to the discussion you bait and berate Mets fans.

I an not one saying that as a Yankee fan you shouldn’t comment in threads about other teams, if you have something intelligent to add to the discussion go right ahead regardless of subject matter. But popping in to every Mets thread just to try to piss off Mets fans is juvenile. You are adding nothing to the discussion, rather your contributions are entirely negative. You attract contempt and abuse and appear to enjoy it. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I always liked Vanimal, from his first year with the Phillies through his Pirate days.I always thought that he was an underrated pitcher. He did not have big stuff but was always a great competitor.I hope he gets healthy soon and gets back to MLB.

If and when he is healthy, he can resurrect his career with Lancaster or Somerset of the Atlantic League. If he has success there, he’ll get noticed and sold to a big league organization. If he can’t pitch there, then at least Phillies fans wont have far to travel to see him one last time.
