Minor MLB Transactions: 8/23/20

By Mark Polishuk | August 23, 2020 at 10:41pm CDT

Wrapping up some minor moves from around the game…

  • The Red Sox outrighted Christian Arroyo to their alternate training site after the infielder cleared waivers.  Arroyo was designated for assignment three days ago.  The 25th overall pick of the 2013 draft, Arroyo was a significant prospect coming up in the Giants’ farm system and a key part of the trade package sent to the Rays for Evan Longoria in December 2017.  Injuries and a lack of production have dimmed Arroyo’s star, however, as he has hit only .215/.280/.342 over 251 career PA with the Giants, Rays, and Indians.  Boston only claimed Arroyo off waivers from Cleveland 10 days ago, after he appeared in just a single game with the Tribe this season.

Crazy to think that Arroyo was one of mlbs premier prospects a couple years ago.

He was never a premier prospect, just a good prospect in a bad system.

Actually, if you’re a 1st rounder and 25th overall pick in the nation, and ranked as one of the top 100 prospects in the game three years running, you’re kind of a premier prospect.

Musical roster spots again. They need to bring Brock Holt back, for the fans n players. He brings a smile to the game.

I’m starting to think pasha2k really is Brock Holt, and he really likes playing in Boston.

Pasha2k – is very supportive of the Red Sox players.

There is a time to move on and Holt reaches that point along with Lynn, Rice, Yaz, Ortiz, Ramirez, Boggs….no one plays forever and it is better to let them go before the fans start to wish they were gone….

I agree. Bring The Brock Star back for the rest of this year. See if he can help for the last 30 games.

They won’t bring back Brock because the fans want him. makes me wonder why I’m still a Six fan.

We’re in a bit of a rebuild/retooling… You don’t bring back a 30 something year old, you play the young guys to see if they are worth keeping around in this instance. Besides, Brock was a fan favorite, not a superstar. He’s not exactly going to right the ship this year.

MLB needs to make a rule that a player claimed has to remain on their 40 man for at least 30 days or he reverts back to the original team.

That’s original…I like the waiver system as is. The worst teams get a shot first. Not many lower than the RS.
Brock and JDM together again–maybe it would wake JD up from a drought.
I think the house cleaning will continue-JD, JBJ and Barnes. Unfortunately Moreland might be the odd man out. This weekend may have been JD’s audition for teams by actually playing RF.

Trade JD and fill his spot with Pence.

It’s difficult for the Sox to find someone that will take on some money of JDM’s contract, and bringing in Hunter Pence seems like the opposite of what they’re trying to do.

To those that get upset when I call for the return of the Brockstar, I’ll also take Bronson Arroyo too! At least he can musically entertain.
