Rangers Announce Several Roster Moves

By Darragh McDonald | April 24, 2022 at 12:56pm CDT

The Rangers announced a series of roster moves prior to today’s game. Right-handers Spencer Howard and Dennis Santana were reinstated from the injured list, with the latter coming off the Covid-IL. Fellow righty Spencer Patton will head onto the injured list with an oblique strain while yet another righty, Nick Snyder, was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Howard and Santana each went on the IL on April 14 and return after the 10-day minimum. Howard had a blister/cracked fingernail issue while Santana was on the Covid-IL after reportedly showing symptoms. He wasn’t counted against the club’s 40-man roster while he was out. Now that he’s returned, the club’s 40-man roster is again full. It was at 39 before today and a corresponding move won’t be necessary to bring Santana back.

As for Patton, it’s an unfortunate break after a decent start to his season. In seven innings out of the Rangers’ bullpen, he has a 3.86 ERA. His 17.2% strikeout rate is below average, but his 52.6% groundball rate is strong. The club didn’t provide a timeline on his absence, but oblique injuries are notoriously tricky and can often keep players sidelined for weeks or months.

Texas needs to make some “rooster” moves. Become more aggressive in the hen house, and quit laying so many eggs! Why does your sister club Houston, make you look so bad?

I’m not sure how Daniels still has a job. The team went straight downhill after Preller left. They are well under .500 since 2014, and they spend a decent amount of money.

You obviously weren’t going to Astros games when they tanked their way to where they are now. In fact, more fans of opposing clubs were in Minute Maid than you so-called Astros fans.

As a Mariner fan, I hope the Rangers sign Daniels and crew to a looooong term contract. Of course, the Ms, while improved so far, better get into the post season this year or Dipoto and Daniels will be holding up signs, “Will wreck your team for food.”

Marine fans should be worrying about their own team because last time I checked JD got them two unexpected WS trips

They didn’t spend wisely. 1/2 a billion dollars on middle infielders that they had plenty of prospects and the big pitching aquisitions were martin Perez, jon gray, and Greg Holland who was cut. We gotta ride out another bottom 3 finish now

Grey is a bust so far, has more time in IL than on the field.

They signed the people they could. End of story. You can’t just sign players from other teams under contract.

Yeah but they shouldn’t just be signing players just for the sake of signing SOMEONE either

I understand that but. But as slugger said, don’t spend just for the sake of spending. And when ur supposedly “rebuilding” u sign young guys that play an area of need, not guys that play a position u have 5-6 prospects of that will be ready in a year or 2 and block them and address ur pitching staff with garbage. There were better ways for this team to spend, or hold it for another year. We been waiting since 2016 and it didn’t take 1/2 billion dollars to finish in last again, could’ve done that and not spent at all.

Signing these two players did nothing to the Rangers money. The owners have already came out and said that they’ll continue to spend on whomever they really want. The Rangers owners are as rich as the dodgers and just as powerful if not more powerful. This ain’t the same leadership as before. This group are multi billionaires who are backed by other billionaires

Yea, ok. U buy into that. Weve had same owners since 2010 and same gm since Tom hicks days, how’s this not same leadership? And where did u read they would spend to sign whoever they want? Everything I’ve read said they intend to spend along same lines as other teams their marketsize, which suggests $175m annually. And that’s from same ownership that took payroll to $30m, and promised to spend in 2020 and didn’t. And u contradicted urself… Are they limited to sign who will come here or are they billionaires that can sign whoever they want? Either way history doesn’t suggest they will spend big for prolonged periods, few years then scrap it. That’s how this leadership has gone since 2010

The Rangers have said, all along, they do not expect to contend this year. They’re still sorting through several younger pitchers, to get a better grasp on what they have. John Gray a bust? We’re two weeks into the season! Come on.

Contend? They’re 2nd worst team in majors… AGAIN. And, jon gray was a bust the day he signed. He was signed to be their #1 and he was never a #1

He was signed to be their number one THIS YEAR, on a four year deal. They’re the 2nd worst team, after 12 games, of a 162 game season. It’s not hard to keep things in perspective, you just have to try.

Gray sucks. Washed up. Rangers should have not wasted money on him. Also, why the hell did they sign Perez again? What a joke. Bring back Bannister, get rid of Daniels and Woodward to start the turn around
