Hi Darragh, if there’s anything you or the staff could do about the “troll” named 27champyankees/TonyGwynnSD19 who constantly low-effort trolls and unnecessarily targets SF Giant articles with unrelated cheap shots and bashing against Giants fans, that would be honestly appreciated. Thanks

I feel like the Royals are just trying to figure out what they have. Their farm has been depleted and Kansas City needs their young guys to either take big steps forward or punt and rebuild. Kansas City has to believe at least a few guys will work out, but they’re not sure whom.

Are you sure about that? Eckersley seemed to like KC’s kids just fine when he was ripping apart the Pirates’ prospects.

Looks like the Royals are serious about trying to contend this year after spending over 100 million on their MLB roster this year, which makes it all the more disappointing to us Twins fans that we have done absolutely NOTHING to improve upon our playoff team from 23:(

    Nice work, gentlemen. Good listen.

When you have finished listening to this one, todays Samson podcast (“Nothing Personal”) is damn good as well. Very informative on the Franco, Red Sox and the Yamamoto opt out situations. Guaranteed learning.

Dodgers signing a pitcher will get a player released or Dfa if their roster is at 40. Not other massive bs firings or teams suddenly moving to another city after that. Geez.

Good discussion. But from the Sale/Grissom aspect, the conversation makes it sound like BoSox got the better deal. Grissom was a nice spark and can dominate in AAA, but it was a move of strength from the Braves. Sure, Sale has been an injury concern for the past few years, but this is a great move from the ATL perspective. Don’t forget, with deferred m ok kney he’s only

Never mind, the app sucks, and it didn’t let me revise my accidental submission. I couldn’t do it on the full site, either. Oh well. Cmon internet, do your worst for my incomplete sentence and perspective. And oh yeah, BoSox, enjoy Grissom. I hope he provides above-league average. Flame me years from now if he becomes their Jeter.

Have you read these comment sections? People have issues like that all the time. It’s actually really surprising how bad the comment section is on this site considering how many people they have use it.

I thin they kinda touched on this with the trade…it makes sense for Boston because they get 6 years of control and it kinda makes sense for Atl because they’re in go-for-it mode. I agree with them that if they had taken on a bit more money they could have got him without grissom and then used Grissom in a different trade if they wanted.

It’s also possible that we don’t truly know how other teams value Grissom, who even after spending time with the best glove teacher in the game (Wash), wasn’t able to adapt to a full-time role. That’s quite telling. BOS wants to move on from having Story at 2B, so there’s a low bar for them. Doesn’t hurt in the cup of coffee Grissom has already generated one highlight at Fenway (his first HR). After Kelenic’s acquisition, I don’t think they were willing to devote any time in LF to Grissom barring an injury.

It’s also interesting that the money they ended up paying for Kelenic when it was all said and done ($17M) is the same amount they got BOS to include with Sale ($17M).

I thought your comment was quite legible, and I agree. This could fail on either side, but I thought it was an excellent use of resources by both teams.

At least Vaughn Grissom will get a chance to show what he can do in MLB now. I suspect he might have turned down a extension and AA pivoted to Arcia.

I also suspect that an extension was offered, rebuffed and Grissom was consequently traded for Sale. I also believe they could have traded for Sale without losing Grissom but AA clearly values the money being paid on the contract and probably wouldn’t have achieved that with other (lesser) prospects. They are clearly not trading any of their young pitchers as they see a pipeline of talent over the next 3-5 years that will be help negate the loss of their SPs in free agency. AA may have been told to spend lightly this season with the hopes of signing Soto next season (pure speculation on my part). Now when I look at Sales post season data, I start to wonder if he’s cursed like Kershaw? The numbers don’t look great…

Seriously? Grissom had a good debut but never had passable defense or made offensive adjustments when pitcher’s started seeing more of him. He didn’t run with the starting SS job and they didn’t even have confidence in him to fill in when Albies was injured at 2B. Considering Swanson was kept 5 seasons (without an extension) with below-average offense and good/great glovework at SS — I highly doubt AA ever thought about an extension at any point with Grissom. I also doubt after spending time with Wash readying for SS that Wash didn’t give him his seal of approval, despite positive reports about his work. But, we’ll never know.

The fact you refuse to acknowledge Bauer in your podcast, a guy that could be the piece that pushes a team from obscurity into contention, tells me that MLBTR has either tacitly or covertly received marching orders from the league to not mention persona non grata. Similar to Barry Bonds in 2008 after putting up an OPS over 1.000 and 4.4 oWAR.

Seeing the monies spent on guys who’ve never faced MLB hitting or pitching while two former CY winners still in their prime remain unsigned. It reeks of collusion.

Seriously, more time spent on guys who are not difference makers or injured until mid-season! Why is that the case? Sure seems like some tomfoolery is afoot.

Bauer was never charged or convicted. Only in kangaroo ct.

Nobody wants Bauer and the blowback or drama he has attached no matter what kind of upgrade he represents on every staff. People don’t talk about him because he’s a gross dude, and a headache. I think maybe he cleans everything up and gets a good media bump, then MAYBE a team takes a flier. Best thing for him would be to end up as a pitching coach, he has a wonderful pitcher-mind.

      …what?

This week’s podcast recapped and broke down a frenzy of offseason moves, with the writers even acknowledging they wouldn’t have enough time to cover all the transactions. And you’re proposing they discuss someone for whom there hasn’t been any significant news in almost a month?

Why are you people so obsessed with Bauer?

American Redneck,,,,,, I think the reason that Snell & Montgomery aren’t signed yet is because scott Boras is their agent. I know the Dodgers have spent ridiculous money on Ohtani & Yamamoto but, they just don’t get along with Boras in negotiations. I wonder how many other teams have the same issue?

Unless MLB has done the collusion thing[again], what are the odds that some club is going to be desperate enough for starting pitching that they sign Trevor Bauer during the season?

    Reply
    • Trollfree

Lets hope so. The hypocrisy of the way they handled his case is despicable. Cora cheats twice and impacts over 90 games and gets a 60 game ban. Bauer does something socially unacceptable but completely unrelated to baseball and not illegal and he gets a longer suspension and becomes a forbidden fruit. The commissioner needs to be dismissed for his lack of judgement.

Being politically correct should not be grounds for suspension but literally breaking the rules on two occasions and impacting the results of the 2017 season and 2018 seasons should get you banned for life.

WHY ARE THE RED SOX BEING SO CHEAP? i recently read, Ownership stating that it was Breslow not being aggressive enough on signing players. Signing someone like Yamamoto, or Montgomery, wouldn’t Breslow have to get ownership blessing to spend that much? I would think so. So who thinks that its OWNERSHIP being the problem? It just seems like the same thing as Bloom, so obviously it is not Breslow or Bloom. It has to be Ownership. Thaoughts?

like, why haven’t the Red Sox closed the deal on Soler? it seems like its all just news, but they are not signing, like they don’t want too, they just want to put out news. Imanaga? you can’t tell me they couldn’t beat the Cubs offer, when it was down to the Cubs or Red Sox, i said to my friend, Red Sox won’t sign Imanaga, because everything they have done, seems like they just want to be in the news, but you tell me they couldn’t do a better contract then 4/53k??? when you have 40K+ free just to get to the salary cap of $237k ?? 4/53k is basically 13.5k a year. (i know the contract is not straight forward, but its not a salary they can’t afford)
