After entering the season with big expectations, the Diamondbacks have been dogged by injuries throughout the year and seen key players like Zac Gallen and Brandon Pfaadt perform below expectations. It’s left them with a 47-50 record headed into the second half, and while the front office has not yet outright declared themselves sellers, they seemingly haven’t closed the door on the idea either.
Arizona has a number of intriguing rentals they could dangle this summer to contending clubs, but perhaps the best of them all is third baseman Eugenio Suárez. The 33-year-old is in the midst of what figures to be a career year and has already clubbed 31 homers in just 95 games. As the best bat available this summer, he should attract plenty of attention. For which teams would he make the most sense? A look at some of the top options:
New York Yankees
The Yankees entered 2025 without a solid plan for the infield, and their situation has only gotten more dire. Oswaldo Cabrera suffered an ankle injury that’s left him unlikely to return to the field this year, and the club recently cut ties with DJ LeMahieu in order to move Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base. That leaves New York to rely on Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas at the hot corner, a combination that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. Suárez would be the perfect addition to a Yankees lineup that has too often relied on Aaron Judge to carry the load of producing on a regular basis by himself, and Suárez’s righty bat would help to balance a lineup dominated by lefties like Chisholm, Cody Bellinger, Ben Rice, and Austin Wells. As tempting as Suárez may be, however, injuries to players like Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt leave the rotation perhaps even more in need of reinforcements than the lineup. The Yankees would also pay a 110% tax on what’s left of Suárez’s $15MM salary ($5.89MM as of this writing).
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs have had a strong year so far and entered the All-Star break in first place thanks primarily to their star-studded offense. Shoring up a patchwork rotation should be the top priority for this team, but Chicago does have one of the worst third base situations in the majors. Matt Shaw entered this year as a consensus top-30 prospect in the sport and may well still be the team’s long-term solution at the hot corner, but his 61 wRC+ won’t cut it on a contender. Jon Berti and Vidal Brujan have been no better offensively, so any upgrade at third would need to be external. There aren’t many teams for whom Suárez would represent a more substantial upgrade over their internal options, and adding him to the middle of the Cubs’ order to push players like Dansby Swanson and Ian Happ down the lineup would make one of the league’s best offenses even more potent.
Milwaukee Brewers
Nipping at Chicago’s heels in the NL Central race, the Brewers sit just one game back after playing extremely well the past few weeks. With Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta and Jacob Misiorowski set to front the rotation and several solid back-end options, the Brewers appear to be the rare contender mostly set on the pitching front. Where they could use upgrades is on offense — particularly on the left side of the infield. Caleb Durbin has done a solid enough job at third base, but with Joey Ortiz struggling at shortstop and no obviously impactful trade candidates at that position, perhaps adding Suárez could bolster the lineup while allowing the Brewers to occasionally shift Durbin to second base and Brice Turang to shortstop. While the position fit is perhaps imperfect, Suárez would help transform the middle of a Milwaukee lineup that has seriously missed the contributions of Willy Adames this year. It’s fair to wonder whether Suárez fits the within the budget, however.
Seattle Mariners
Perhaps the best fit for Suárez would be a homecoming of sorts. The Mariners have long needed help on offense to complement their cache of young pitching talent, and this year is no different. Rookie Ben Williamson is handling the hot corner on a regular basis as things stand and playing good defense with minimal offense (.259/.294/.321, 79 wRC+).
Bringing Suárez back into the fold would transform the lineup, giving the team a second bona fide slugger alongside Cal Raleigh who could form a strong offensive nucleus with Randy Arozarena and Julio Rodriguez. The Mariners traded Suárez to the D-backs in the first place following the 2023 season — a move necessitated by an ownership mandate to reduce payroll. There is interest in a reunion, but would Seattle submit the top bid to reacquire a rental player they traded 21 months ago when other more surefire postseason clubs are in the bidding?
Other Options
The four clubs mentioned above are arguably the strongest fit for Suárez’s services, but they’re far from the only realistic options. The Reds would represent another homecoming for Suárez and have one of the worst third base situations in the majors at the moment. The Tigers — Suárez’s original organization — have gotten solid production from All-Stars Zach McKinstry and Javier Baez at the hot corner, but both are versatile and Suárez would add some more thump to a win-now lineup. The Blue Jays have a solid offense and are enjoying a breakout season from Addison Barger at third base, but he could just as easily be moved to right field to clear the deck for Suárez. The Mets have moved Mark Vientos off third base amid a difficult season, and Suárez would be a clear upgrade over Ronny Mauricio and Brett Baty on the infield.
Suárez’s elite power and ability to play a solid third base make him an attractive target for any club hoping to add a little thump to the lineup. Which team should push hardest to acquire him? Have your say in the poll below:
The Yankees might be the best match in terms of prospect capital. If I’m Hazen, I try to land Cam Schlitter in a deal.
I also should note that I don’t think Suárez will be enough to pry Schlitter away, so it might have to be a packaged deal that includes Zac Gallen or Merrill Kelly.
If one 45 FV prospect is too rich for the Yankees then he won’t be traded to tem
Ez – The Red Sox would be a better fit, after Bregman leaves this offseason.
Come on Red Sox, do it!
Sign Suárez and tell Bregman to pound sand!!
Fever- apparently you and I feel the same way in regards to Bregman. Lol. But I would think you would want to keep him though, regarding his hatred towards the Yankees. Let me know.
Cap – I didn’t know he hated the Yankees, what is the backstory on it? If anybody has a reason to hate, it’s the Yankees hating Bregman …. he screwed them out of a pennant.
Any hatred toward the Yankees might be driven by the Yankees ambivalence toward him in free agency.
Fever- It’s all good. I truthfully never wanted Bregman on the Yankees. Surprisingly a lot of Yankee fans wanted him to sign as a free agent. I was definitely fine with him goin to Boston. I thought the fans liked him? Shocked. I’m ok with Suárez, he is 33 already though, and will cost a fortune. McMahon or Hayes would be a lot cheaper as far as prospects.
Get real!!
LordD99- did you want the Yankees to sign Bregman as a free agent? Guessing a lot of fans wanted him. I never did.
The Sox can still go after Suarez in the off-season if Bregman opts out. If i were Suarez i would want to go to the Cubs and just hit bombs for the next two months ahead of free agency
Get Suarez for first, and Gallen. Re-sign Bregman, eat a bunch of money and win. Dombrowski style.
Then we are cooking with gas.
Suarez has never played First Base and I’m not sure the middle of a pennant race in a place like Boston is the place to learn
First base really isn’t rocket science. If you can play third, you can play first. This constant opinion of first base being some incredibly difficult position is amusing. Don’t money-ball reference either.
It’s not like moving to catcher from pitcher. Every player in the big leagues has played all over the diamond growing up.
Fans in Boston do like him. “Fans” on MLB Rumors don’t.
cdr – You don’t give a guy third baseman money to play first base ….. well, unless you’re the Red Sox so maybe scratch that. LOL
cdr – You are 100% correct, 3B to 1B is a very common transition.
And once Devers gets healthy, I guarantee he’ll be damn good at first base.
You’re usually, not always, going to have a lefty playing first base. There are a few more right handed fielding first baseman than there used to be. But finding a lefty 3b man? Good luck.
It’s wild that first base isn’t that position anymore for big boppers and big money. Delgado, big Mac, Mo, Helton, etc.
Baseball has gotten in better shape and more athletic at the same time.
I just want another big righty bat and ok defense at first. Over pay, just get it done. Tired of this team operating like Tampa so they can spend money on soccer!
lol is this for real?
It would be reckless of the Yanks to trade away more high end upcoming talent to plug holes. Too many holes to plug this year and there has to be a time where they are willing to take a step back in order to take a few steps forward like the Red Sox and Tampa consistently do and let the young players have a shot rather then continue down this path.
Red Sox have finished dead last and third twice in last four seasons. The Rays don’t really apply.
The Yankees are in a cash crunch if you can call it that given the taxes added in. They should have not released DJL but instead agreed to include a better return if AZ took on some or all of his remaining money.
Cash crunch, they pull in over 800 million a year!
@slider32 Hal doesn’t even need to profit as long as the Yankees keep increasing the team’s/brand’s valuation and he does that by remaining perrpetually competitive.
That ain’t happening. You might want to put the pipe down and go touch grass.
The Yankees aren’t in position to give up someone like Schlittler for a two-month rental. If they moved him, it’s not for a rental.
I doubt Schlitter or Jones will part of a Suárez package. I could definitely see a Lalane, Selvidge, Carr package with a Pereira and others goin to Arizona. If Gallen is included in the package then the Yankees might give in and put Schlitter in the trade then. I feel Suárez will be traded to the Brewers.
MKE is too cheap and the front office generally sticks to players who look like Murphy or Durbin based on recent history. I’d like them to bring back C.Santana and then look elsewhere for a 3B like K.Hayes. Maybe a change of scenery would help Hayes? Of course, none of my scenarios will happen because of my first sentence.
Or Bohm.
freeland1787: The Yankees don’t have a strong farm system. The Brewers and Cubs have better prospects to offer.
True, but do they want to use there players to get Suarezz. The Brewers don’t look to out spend the Yanks, it’s all about who is offered right!
I’m wondering if the D”Backs GM Hazen will try and milk the most out of Milwaukee and Chicago they are from the same division the dislike for each other’s front office, with Counsell now managing the Cubs, what better way to get top prospects in a trade from either side while dangling Suarez over their heads. One of these two teams will have to overpay to get what they want and where they want to go. Question then becomes How bad do the Cub’s and Brewers want the ring.
I would argue the Cubs are not in need of Suarez so much because their offense is already so robust. They should focus their resources on pitching and find a cheap 1.5-2.0 WAR guy with plus defense to plug third base.
No. The Brewers can afford to part with Robert Gasser. He’s MLB ready and will be back in a few weeks. The Brewers have the best trade chip of a front line starter if they are willing to pull the trigger.
I’d like to see him as a red again but they should be wasting prospects on a rental.
Redlegs
They should be selling, not wasting legit prospect capital on a rental. They’re the 4th best team in their division.
Bryzz they’re only a couple games out of the wild card they shouldn’t be selling(yet) but they definitely shouldn’t go after rentals that aren’t relievers
The article claims that the Reds have one of the worst 3B situations “at the moment.” Their 3B production for the season reflects poor results from a carousel of fill-ins, and they’ve already jettisoned Jeimer Candelario. But as of a few weeks ago Noelvi Marte is back with the team and is producing. The Reds are probably better off standing pat with Marte at 3B and spending their resources elsewhere.
What they need is another OF bat. And relief pitching, just like 29 other teams.
Yankees, for sure. Seattle would be a good move, too.
Definitely not the Cubs. Their lineup is awesome already but they need a lot of pitching help.
Agree pitching should be Cubs focus but adding Suarez at 3B would give them a championship offense.
Serious need for at least one arm in the rotation and a closer or setup man shouldn’t be ignored though. The bidding on Suarez could easily get out of hand where the Cubs need to focus their prospect capital on pitching, especially since trading Caissie is probably a terrible idea unless they are committed to re-signing Tucker.
I’m of two minds on this. I think Seattle needs a player like him the most to stay in the playoffs race down the stretch, but I think New York’s World Series chances would benefit the most from adding his bat.
The Yankees don’t have a farm system and it would be risky to trade the few prospects they have to get yet another old strikeout prone righty bat
Mariners and cubs and brewers have enough prospects to throw for a 50 homer rental
Every team has enough talent in their system to get Suarez as a rental!
Yankees farm system would be hurt a lot more compared to the other contenders
The Mariners should look for a lefty power bat, not adding Suarez’s righty bat to the lineup with righties Rodriguez Raleigh and and Arozarena already in the middle of the lineup.
It would strengthen the Cubs lineup. Kevin Alcantara would represent a decent offer for Suarez, maybe the best they can expect for a rental player.
The Cubs wpuld get the righty bat they need to balance the lineup.
Yes because Raleigh is a righty and only batted left handed in the Derby for props.
Yankees don’t need a farm though. They can part with their prospects because they know they can afford to get the production in free agency instead.
A Yankees offer of two pitchers in their top 10 prospects would be hard for the M’s to beat (not because we don’t have the capital, but because we need that capital to give us production on the MLB minimum to stay competitive).
Mariners are my pick
Brewers
Brewers also have a plethora of young arms they can deal, which is what Arizona needs 🤔
The Brewers have more to offer in terms of major league ready starting pitchers than any other team in the bidding for Suarez. They have already sent down two rookie pitchers back to the minors that had ERA’s less than than 3.55. Chad Patrick (Rookie) 3.52 ERA over 18 starts in MLB. Was in the running for rookie of the year, but was sent back to the minors to make room for Brandon Woodruff…tough break. Logan Henderson (Rookie) 1. 71 ERA over 4 starts and 21 innings. Once again was sent down to make room for Jose Quintana who came off the injured list…..tough break. Tobias Myers got hurt early this year with a left oblique strain. He just returned to the majors last week, but did not start before the all-star break. As a rookie last year he was great. He was 9-6 over 138.00 innings with an ERA of 3.00. All of these pitchers are controlled until at least 2031. I would hate for the Brewers to give up even one of these pitchers for less than 1/2 year of Suarez, but if you are going for it, it may take one of these pitchers in the deal. I just hope the Brewers get a throw in prospect in the deal.
Personally, I’d be fine with dealing one of Myers or Patrick, but not Henderson.
Also year 2 a lot of teams make adjustments and there’s more film for opposing teams to digest. I don’t think the Brewers were too high on what they saw from Myers this year, regardless of the injury.
Brewers won’t take on that much salary though, would they??
They give up a pitcjer the snakes can put right into the rotation for 5 years, I think they will send at least 50% salary w Geno
I think his prorated salary would be around $6mm. They would still have a smaller payroll than last year.
Reds.
It would be nice to see him back at GABP in the 1st base dugout. How much of the farm are you willing to give up for 60 games? If the Reds are going to give up quality prospects, they need some controllable years in return. Not many of those types out there, and the ones that are, will be overpriced return-wise.
Probably better to pick up an extra bat, or two if possible, trading off some of the MLB current players that aren’t coming back next year, and hope for a miracle. Then, as per usual, say…. wait until next year.
The Red Sox have to be in this discussion, and even may need Yoshida to play some first base. Suarez would definitely be able to cover first. They need to replace Devers bat.
Except Suarez has never played an inning of First Base in his career. I’d like to see the Sox get Merrill Kelly if they are going to trade with the D’backs
It can’t be any worse than his SS experiment many years ago.
The SS experiment was because Jose Iglesias got hurt and the Tigers had Castellanos at 3B. Suarez was subsequently traded the following winter.
You’re not telling me anything I don’t know.
Replace Dever’s bat? I guess you must have missed the last 10 Sox games – and the last 10 SF games.
Baltimore needs that bat or their season is cooked!
The birds are already fully cooked. As Gorilla Monsoon used to say, you can put a fork in the O’s.
Cubs
His bat is exactly what Toronto needs. Barger needs to stay in the lineup one way or another, but they can certainly figure that out.
I don’t know if the Blue Jays have the prospects to pull this off, but grabbing Suarez and Merrill Kelly (or Gallen) would put them in a very strong position down the home stretch.
Dbacks want pitching and jays don’t have any to spare.
Macko and Bloss are not having good years and losing prospect shine, Ricky T, barriers and manoah are still working their way back from injury.
yesavage could be in play but not sure he would be enough
The have Brandan Barriera as well. He’s pretty highly thought of, but battling back from injury.
It’s also worth mentioning Tiedemann and Barriera both of whom are in injury recovery/bounceback mode. But while most of Toronto’s pitching prospects have some warts on them, there’s quite a bit of talent there—if someone’s willing to be patient.
But Yesavage and a position-player prospect could easily get it done. Considering what little Scherzer and Trea Turner garnered, or Manny Machado, two decent prospects would go a long away.
The only way they should trade Yesavage is if they’re getting controllable talent back. I’d be surprised if they traded him for any rental.
How about a deal like Suarez, Kelly, and Tommy Troy for Schlitter and Spencer Jones?
I think packaging Suarez or Naylor with Gallen or Kelly would probably be the way Arizona maxes their value out. Two sets of them helps too.
I would not include Tommy Troy in that.
Additionally, they could move AB to 2nd Base and then get Suarez for 3rd base. Free agent after the end of this season, definitely worthy of long term consideration. Similar to Nelson Cruz, will hit for a very long time.
No one is like Nelly, also Suarez is not even in Nelson Cruz age category yet and still plays ok defense
Brewers should get more respect.
I don’t think people are disrespecting Milwaukee as much as seeing it as a less likely destination due to their typical lack of trades for a rental like this.
Also, the metrics and underlying numbers don’t look great for Milwaukee. On the surface, only a game out but digging deeper that’s a lot to suggest regression. For one, they had one of the easiest 1st half schedules, Chicago one of the hardest. That flips and evens out in the 2nd half. I don’t see them mortgaging the future for a high priced rental.
Bryzzo,
I disregard schedules other than who teams are presently playing. Some getvsuddenly hot, some cold and injuries come out of nowhere. Boston supposedly has the toughest schedule remaining but if Crochet, Bello and Giolito continue to pitch like they have recently, I’ll take my chances in any series they all pitch in.
And clearly , seeing the underlying analytics and analysis, the Brewers are now certain to deliberately tank the season and trade Peralta to the Dodgers for a few used Big Bang Theory DVD season box sets.
Clearly the analytics will not stop them from improving the team. The Brewers don’t have the luxury of waiting for everything to be perfect before going for it.
The Cubbies do look like the better team by my eye test!
One game out, make it happen Brewers.
Padres need a RH power bat. They can put Suarez, whose defense has lagged in recent years, at DH. Sheets plays LF full time.
Agreed, But it will be a bidding war for Suárez; cost may not be worth it.
DBacks are still contending.
They’re losing a lot of good players to free agency. Why wouldn’t they go for it this year when 2026 looks like an uphill battle?
Dodgers aren’t going anywhere. Padres either. Giants will exceed lux tax next year.
Arizona went to the World Series a few years ago despite stacked odds. They’re not selling
Next 10 days will decide.
Being a D’Backs fan right now is interesting, they are about 6 games out of the WC having to climb over 4 or 5 teams to even get a sniff. Starting tomorrow night the next four teams, they have to play are the Cards, Astros, @ Pirates then @ Tigers. They need to win at m least 8 out of 10 and the other teams ahead of them in the WC race need to lose 8 out 10 each for the D”Backs to be buyers. The rest of this season they need to play at a .610 pace. With this pitching staff and no solid help on the horizon just can’t see Hazen being a seller this year and instead building for 2027, using 2026 to build with the prospects and existing farm prospects he hopes to get at the trade deadline in 10 days.
If they are looking for young, controllable, pitching the Brewers farm is fat and ready for slaughter. This post sponsored by Uzingers, the official sausage of the Milwaukee Brewers. Man I miss Mr. Baseball.
Suarez batting 4th and playing third in this lineup gets the Crew past the first round of the playoffs. After that, why not more?
none. the guy doesn’t walk. I’d give a bag of used baseballs with scuff marks and some big league chew for him.
Well then your team can take Lars Nootbaar off my cardinals. Walking is all he does. Good luck with your paper weight at 1B
Reds.
He’s familiar with the ballpark, he could easily play 3rd base and the Reds could trade Marte for him to open up a spot.
Why on earth would you deal Marte?! He could quite possibly be the most dangerous bat on the team behind EDLC. Have you ever seen the kid barrel up a baseball?
Suarez will leave in the offseason because the Reds won’t pay him, which was why they traded him away in the first place.
Royals
There ya go…glad someone said it
Any of the teams with a 3B depth of beloe 1.3 fWAR. That includes teams like:
Phillies
Twins
Tigers
Mets
Cubs
Mariners
Rangers
Brewers
Angels
Pirates
Rockies
Reds
White Sox
Athletics
Yankees
Marlins
Nationals
makes no sense for teams that are not close to 500 to trade prospects for a rental this year. Nationals, Rockies, A’s, White Sox etc etc
@Roll
All of the teams need help at 3B, regardless of FA status. It’s just too bad that some of those terrible teams like the Nationals, Rockies, A’s and White Sox are more concerned about making money from the tax than actually fielding a legitimate team.
I’d prefer if they could demote some of those teams to a lower league where they can play the cheap team until they’re interested in playing at the highest level.
I think it would even up if they had 5 teams in NY and LA.
@Atlanta Jack
Good. Kind of tired of the other terrible teams that don’t field a proper competitive team each and every year. Move them all to NY and LA.
@Old York
Are you LFG in disguise? Trading away top talent for less than half a season upgrade in a dead season is something he would do. Thats something even trade happy dipoto wouldnt do.
Also the Guardians and Brewers would be making more off taxes than the Nationals (strasburg) and Rockies (bryant) as the nationals and rockies both have higher luxury cap value currently. Im sure the guardians could use an upgrade at dh over manzardo whether thats ramirez or him sliding into that role or switching off to keep the other fresh while also not being that far out of the wild card hunt.
As another said, you could add Boston too because who knows about Bergman’s health and because he could also play first.
A 2..6 WAR player for the year is a pretty good player!
The Yankees are more than a Suerez away from winning the WS. If this cost us any one of Jones, Schlittler or Lombard – Hard Pass!
People in Chicago earlier in the week were claiming he would be in the lineup for Friday’s 1:20 game. Better get it done quickly
Yankees taking hard pass on WS.
Phillies are aging, built to win now. Suarez adds another potent bat & another impending free agent Shelby Miller fills their most glaring need.
Dbacks are supposedly looking for young arms, Andrew Painter appears to be recovering well, Mick Abel another possibility.
Bohm isn’t a FA until 2027 and can play 3B or 1B. Maybe the dbacks could get one of the Phils top young arms & Bohm for Suarez & Shelby Miller. Might be too much for the Phil’s to pay for two rentals, but if those two rentals help them win a WS……..
What I’ve been proposing is:
Yankees: Suarez, Gallen, and Shleby Miller/Beeks (If they are healthy)
Mariners: Naylor and Alek Thomas
Dbacks: Harry Ford and Spencer Jones
With Canzone hitting in addition to Luke Raley, M’s don’t need a lefty OF.
M’s have enough prospects to get Saurez and Naylor, why would they help NY?
Maybe the yanks can also get Caroll in the deal since we’re being ridiculous
Alek Thomas is a 4th outfielder. I would rethink that one. I like Naylor to Seattle though; moreso than Suarez.
Reds. They need him badly.
Harry Ford for Naylor and Saurez.
Saurez is a perfect fit in Seattle.
I don’t think so with Suarez. He sucks on defense and we have superlative gold glove level defense right now from Williamson. Yes on Naylor though.
Williamson can be on the playoff roster as a defensive replacement.
I do think we’re OK with Bad Benny at 3rd if we don’t acquire Suarez
None of the above. The Reds should bring him back and bring some juice to that offense.
Detroit should go hard after him, keep him off Seattle or Yankees
So when I think of the most aggressive, tbh I think of solid booty.
Yankees need to address Shortstop also.
My prediction is a reunion with IKF as Volpe insurance.
Cubs all the way. Shaw is a bust to date.
Detroit Tigers…Max Anderson, Matt Manning and one more pitching prospect TBD from West Michigan ought to get the trade done
I’ve heard on a AZ D’Back flagship sports radio station that there is approx 6 to 8 teams where Suarez by himself could end up. Right now, heard that Milwaukee is a front runner for Suarez, because they have a ML ready rotation in their farm system right now. It also stated that the Phillies could offer (3B) Bohm who is a FA 2027, a top 20 pitching prospect. Then comes Cubs, who can offer a top 10 prospect, 3B Shaw, plus a top 50 prospect. Yankees would have to come up with something like three top 20 prospect, one prospect being in the top 10 though.
The Cubs aren’t giving up Shaw for Suarez they certainly aren’t giving up Shaw and more for Suarez.
The Yankees make the most sense. And the Yankees would want a starter to go along with Suarez.
Yankees won’t trade any of their prospects just for rentals. I could see them as a nice fit for Mitch Keller though.
IMO I believe the Brewers make the most sense. He would crush HR in AmFam field in addition to road games in cinci and Chicago. They need the bat desperately, banking on the emergence of Andrew Vaughn isn’t the best option, but if he keeps it up it would be another plus too.
Yeah. No.
Teams are not giving up that much for a rental of Suarez’s caliber.
From the Brewers maybe something like Yoho and Rodriguez. A 45 FV prospect that is MLB ready and a lottery ticket.
Only thing I am thinking is how the fans will feel if Suarez goes to Cubs and is the key piece addition to them in the WS. How will Milwaukee fans feel about the Brewers front office and say well we did not want to give up so-n-so prospect the D’Backs were wanting, but yet the Cubs did and they made it to the WS this season, now the Brewers have missed a good opportunity to best the Cubs, not saying this scenario would happen but it sure would be funny if it did. Who says that Suarez will have another season like this one.
I don’t know who should, but whoever gets him has a big advantage over the teams that need him, but lose out.
You have to remember that Suarez does not field well , is prone to strikeouts, and is 34 years old. I would also say he is due for regression in the 2nd half. All those things will be working against him even if he retains his power hitting.
Three-team deal between the Red Sox, D-backs, and Mariners that lands Suarez and Naylor in Seattle, Jaren Duran in AZ, and Harry Ford in Boston.
Big trade but my question is why do the D’Backs want Duran (CF) when right now they are in need of quality young pitching, and the D’Backs GM Hazen has said in interviews here in AZ that he is focus on young MLB ready pitching. It would take a lot more in return for Suarez and Naylor package than Duran.
I think you are mistaking. Durán would take a lot more then that to get by a long shot.
Seattle Mariners roster is fascinating. They have the best Catcher in baseball, a top 5 rotation, a top 5 closer, one of the games brightest young stars (JRod) and possibly the very best defensive player in MLB (DMoore). Their rookie RF’er has been very good, releasing Haniger was the right move. Plus that Brash kid came out of nowhere to solidify the back end of the pen, running off like 18 scoreless innings before giving up an earned run – and we barely heard about it. For all of us that live on the East Coast, we don’t really see the spectacular things some of their players do on a nightly basis. Would contend they are a Suarez (3B) & Chapman (LHRP) away from being a favorite to come out of the AL.
You nailed it AC !! Also many people don’t realize M’s top four batters in their lineup Crawford, J-Rod, Raleigh, Arozerena have an accumulated 15.9 bWAR which is the highest of any other major league team’s 1 thru 4 guys…these guys are starting to put up some runs, check out their sweep of the Tigers to end the first half! Cheers and best of luck to your team rest of season!!
Yanks first priority is a relief pitching. They have the best run diff +111 in the Al and their XWL is +6 over their number of wins for what that’s worth If they can get a starter like Keller/ Ryan and a relief pitcher like Duran/ Jax I think they will roll in the second half.. Gil coming back is also a plus..
Kansas City might seem like a surprise. Small market not getting much play in media. But this ownership group is dead set against making the fan base apathetic as they approach a new ballpark. It is not outside the realm of reason that they’d deal for Suarez. They NEED offense BAD…and need to avoid a ridiculously falling off second half with the Chiefs firing back up soon. They need the chase as much as anything.
Just adding this, because Im not seeing much smoke on this…but its been discussed around KC.
He’s a perfect fot for the Yankees but I’m actually ok passing if the ask is too high. With the way the rest of the offense is going I’d be fine with a lower tier upgrade as long as the bat is adequate (better than peraza) and right handed
Astros could use another infield bat and move Paredes to 2B.
I really like the fit in Detroit. Reminds me of when they got J.D. Martinez all those years ago.
Rangers need a 3rd baseman and a big bat
If the Mets really want a chance to win it this year, Pete needs some protection. They need to stop waiting on this kids playing 3B. If not Suarez then get Naylor to DH and occasionally flip with Pete sometimes and play 1B. Let’s go Stearns.
Tis sad that Julio is now being cast in a offensive supporting role(to cal and if they acquire Geno)
Other – Angels
Mariners fans weren’t crazy upset when he was traded. They were pleasantly surprised by his improved defense because of Perry Hill, but he struck out over 30% of the time. He was a plus in the clubhouse, so players were upset, especially Cal, but ownership promised that Josh Rojas was the next Brooks Robinson. Frankly, I think the team best suited is the Cubs, but the Mariners really have to get Josh Naylor. Not O’Hearn (who’s been fading for a month) and no ex-Rockies (McMahon). Add Aroldis Chapman to the pen, and that’s a decent lineup.
I have zero interest in this guy. If he’s 5 years younger than yes, definitely. IMO, the Yankees should have just got Bregman for money and saved the prospects for an ace. The Yankees would be better off if they signed Bregman and Traded for Tucker last winter. Sadly, Steinbrenner got cheap after Soto said no thank you.
Of the teams listed the Mariners have the best farm system with the Brewers a close second on the list. Not sure how much Dipoto and Hollander are willing to trade for rentals but they can get Suarez if they want him. I would rather see the Mariners get Naylor. Though they Need a IB, 3B and two bullpen arms, I kinda like B. Williamson and his ability to take away runs with his glove as well as put the ball in play. They need hitting at both corner infield positions so would love to see them get both Suarez and Naylor but if I had my choice, It’s Naylor. Even though Suarez is beloved here in Seattle (Good Vibes Only) Naylor puts the ball in play more and more teams need a 3B (Yankees Cubs, etc.) and feel like there is going to be more competition for Suarez.
