The Reds announced the acquisition of starting pitcher Zack Littell from the Rays in what’ll reportedly be a three-team trade. Righty Brian Van Belle is headed from Cincinnati to Tampa Bay. The Reds are reportedly sending pitching prospect Adam Serwinowski to the Dodgers, who’ll trade catcher Hunter Feduccia to Tampa Bay. Reliever Paul Gervase and minor league catcher Ben Rortvedt are headed from the Rays to the Dodgers. As of Wednesday night, only the Littell for Van Belle/Serwinowski portion of the trade has been finalized.
Littell tossed five scoreless innings tonight against the Yankees in his final appearance with the Rays. That lowered his earned run average to an impressive 3.58 mark across 22 starts. Littell turned in a very similar 3.63 ERA in 29 appearances a season ago. He has led the Rays in innings in each of the past two seasons while putting together steady mid-rotation results.
It’s excellent work for a player whom the Rays snagged off waivers from the Red Sox a little over two years ago. Littell had bounced around the league mostly as a middle reliever before Tampa Bay built him up as a starter. His fantastic control played well in a rotation role. Throwing strikes is the 29-year-old’s standout trait. Littell has walked fewer than 5% of opposing hitters in consecutive seasons. He issued four free passes tonight in the Bronx, but that’s only the second time he has done so in the past two years.
Littell doesn’t have eye-popping stuff. He sits in the 91-92 MPH range with both his four-seam fastball and sinker. Neither his slider nor splitter are huge swing-and-miss offerings. Littell had roughly average strikeout and whiff rates a season ago. This year’s 16.6% strikeout rate and 9.1% swinging strike percentage are each subpar. Littell surrenders a lot of hard contact and has had issues with the home run ball throughout his career. That includes an MLB-high 26 longballs allowed this season.
That profile seems a suboptimal fit for a pitcher who’ll now call the extremely hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park home. Littell’s consistency was clearly a plus for Cincinnati. He has worked at least five innings in all but one start this year. He has allowed three or fewer runs in 18 of 22 appearances. Littell has had a better season than Nick Martinez and Brady Singer have managed. Rookie Chase Burns has also been up and down over his first six starts.
Adding Littell will push Martinez to the bullpen. Ace Hunter Greene is on a rehab assignment as he works back from a groin strain. That’ll presumably push Burns back to Triple-A. Cincinnati would have a starting five of Greene, Nick Lodolo, Andrew Abbott, Littell and Singer at that point.
Littell is playing on a $5.72MM salary for his final year of arbitration. The Reds are taking on a little more than $1.8MM for the final two months. He’ll be a free agent at season’s end. Tampa Bay wasn’t going to make him a qualifying offer. They’ve played terribly this month and dropped below .500 with tonight’s loss. Their 3.5 game deficit in the Wild Card race isn’t insurmountable, but the team’s performance coming out of the All-Star Break discouraged the front office enough that they’re at least soft sellers.
Trading Littell, their only true impending free agent, is the obvious starting point. Closer Pete Fairbanks and second baseman Brandon Lowe are controllable for next season via club options. Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim has a $16MM player option. Yandy Díaz and Drew Rasmussen are each signed through 2026 with team options covering the ’27 campaign. Lefty reliever Garrett Cleavinger is arbitration controlled through 2027. It remains to be see how aggressively they’ll shop players whom they control beyond this season, but the Rays have the potential to make a significant impact on the deadline.
The Reds part with a couple controllable players to land Littell. Serwinowski, a 6’5″ left-hander, is the more significant loss. The Reds drafted him out of high school in 2022. He has developed into one of their more intriguing low minors pitchers. Serwinowski ranked 10th in the Cincinnati system at MLB Pipeline and 12th at Baseball America. Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs had him as high as sixth in the organization in May. Scouting reports praise his plus fastball-slider combination, crediting him with a mid-90s heater that can touch 97. Like many tall young pitchers, he has below-average command. Serwinowski also doesn’t have a great third pitch, raising questions about his ability to turn a lineup over multiple times.
There’s a decent chance the 21-year-old will end up as a reliever, but it’s easy to see the appeal of a pitcher with this kind of stuff and physical projection. Serwinowski has spent the season in High-A, allowing a 4.84 ERA across 74 1/3 innings. He has punched out an above-average 27.7% of batters faced while walking nearly 12% of opponents. He’s the headliner of the return from the Dodgers’ perspective as a low minors development flier.
Van Belle, 28, has yet to make his MLB debut. The Red Sox called him up in June but designated him for assignment a few days later without getting him into a game. Cincinnati added him on a cash deal and has kept him on optional assignment to Triple-A Louisville. A former undrafted free agent out of the University of Miami, Van Belle has combined for 81 1/3 innings of 3.21 ERA ball at the top minor league level this year. That comes with a below-average 20.2% strikeout rate but a sterling 3.2% walk percentage. His fastball barely scrapes 90 MPH, but he’s a fantastic strike-thrower who relies mostly on a mid-80s changeup to stay off barrels. He’ll provide the Rays a depth starter or long relief type who is in his first of three minor league option seasons.
Feduccia is the bigger get from Tampa Bay’s perspective. He’s a 28-year-old catcher who had a limited path to playing time behind Will Smith and Dalton Rushing in L.A. Feduccia has held a spot on the 40-man roster for two seasons but has only gotten into seven MLB games. He has been forced to bide his time in Triple-A, where he owns a .277/.387/.450 batting line in more than 1200 plate appearances. A left-handed hitter, he takes plenty of walks and has decent contact skills with minimal power.
Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs slotted Feduccia 31st among Dodger prospects in his writeup of the farm system in April. Longenhagen wrote that he struggles to control the running game but is a plus receiving catcher. Tampa Bay has cycled through catchers for years. They swapped out Danny Jansen for Nick Fortes in separate trades with Milwaukee and Miami earlier this week. Feduccia could push the out-of-options Matt Thaiss for the backup job immediately. He’s in his second of three option years and could be assigned to Triple-A Durham if the Rays don’t want to risk losing Thaiss on waivers.
Landing him required sending the 25-year-old Gervase to Los Angeles. A 6’10” righty reliever, Gervase was acquired from the Mets last July. Tampa Bay promoted him a few weeks ago. He has made five appearances, giving up three runs across 6 1/3 innings. He has posted monster strikeout numbers in Durham, fanning nearly 40% of opponents while pitching to a 3.12 ERA across 28 appearances. Gervase has paired that with a 7.5% walk rate that represents dramatically improved control relative to his early minor league work. The LSU product leans mostly on a 93-94 MPH fastball and mixes in a slider and cutter. He’s in his first option year and will begin his Dodger career as middle relief depth.
Rortvedt, who is not on the 40-man roster, backfills L.A.’s lost catching depth at Triple-A. At age 27, he’s actually younger than Feduccia but has far more MLB experience. He’s a .186/.276/.265 hitter in 209 big league contests. Rortvedt hit .095 in 26 big league games this year before Tampa Bay ran him through waivers. He is hitting .183 in 19 Triple-A games. He’ll be a minor league free agent at the end of the season if the Dodgers don’t call him up before then.
Jeff Passan of ESPN first reported that the Reds were closing in on a deal for Littell. Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Cincinnati was giving up Van Belle and Serwinowski. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale first mentioned the three-team trade, with C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic relaying that the Rays were flipping Serwinowski elsewhere. Passan had the Dodgers’ involvement and the full breakdown.

Huh?
Nice pitcher without power stuff. He pitched brilliantly tonight against the Yankees. The Reds did well here.
They don’t need starers
You ever thought maybe this is a prelude to another trade? One in which they deal Nick Martínez for a bat? Wait until the deadline is over before second guessing every move.
They need relievers. Adding a quality starter allows them to move someone to the bullpen: Chase Burns. He’s lights out the first time through a lineup. Burns would be electric at the back end of the bullpen. Plus, it limits his innings.
Let’s them push burns to the bullpen since they likely have an innings limit on him for the season anyways. Also gives him a chance to get more confidence under him and figure out how his stuff plays in the big leagues. Assuming that’s what the reds do anyways. Or even pushes Martinez out of the rotation. Regardless at least this year the guy is an upgrade over burns and Martinez
I completely agree with that or it could move Martínez into the stretch role of a long reliever and spot starter when it’s needed. I just feel like there is more to this move than our fans typical knee jerk reaction of why.
How does Ian Hamilton or Johnny Lasagna sound for him? Lmk
Nobody is taking Nick Martinez. What in the hell are you talking about?
well said, joe
I was thinking the same thing. Especially if you have Greene and potentially Lowder, if he can get heathy and ramped up. Add another reliever via trade and this bullpen is built for the post season.
You are giving this front office too much credit. History shows the opposite. That’s why the second guessing is prevalent.
People are either injured or going past their career high in innings. As they say, you can never have too much pitching.
Why not? He is a FA at end of year.
Littell is the ultimate pitcher. You could middle releif him, start him and actually close with him if you desire. Littell will tell you he needs to start – just ask Gabe Kapler.
As long as all his starts are on the road. He gives up the long ball too much for GASP. ( Great American Small Park) … not sure I understand this move. Need a power bat …
“Huh?” Is the only appropriate response. This is reminiscent of when we acquired Bauer when we needed offense. But that went extremely well, first Cy in Reds history. I still demand one of the following- Laureano, Ozuna, Yandy, Kwan. Acquiring Suarez at this point makes no sense considering we acquired Hayes. Will be content with the Hayes acquisition if we get a middle of the order thumper. Same with this trade. High upside but not enough.
Trade Hayes for Suarez makes sense.
Wow big move by the Reds getting a quality starter and typical Rays selling high and probably getting good value.
After Hayes deal I can imagine almost anything for return.
Nice pickup by the Reds.
Just saw him against the Yankees, he’s a solid starter good move by Krall.
How so? His numbers at GABP are horrific (granted small sample). He’s a low velocity, minimal movement, pitcher – that doesn’t typically bode well in Cincinnati.
Nice. I still don’t like the Hayes deal but this is a good move for Cincy.
I’d hate that Hayes deal if I was a Red’s fan. Could be a 700 ops yearly gold glove winner or glove only on IL often. It’s just that back that would scare me off. Hopefully he can be what he is now. All glove but healthy.
He’s basically paid like a utility guy for the rest of the contract. And he can’t possible hit worse than he has now, right? …right?!
Could hit the IL!!!!!!
I think the Hayes deal is good if you find a way to add another bat. If he is playing solid D and hits 9th sign me up.
I don’t know why I’m ever surprised when the Rays move someone, but here I am thinking “wow, didn’t see this one coming.”
Littell was bound to go. Rortvedt was not an asset. The potential loss for the Rays is Gervase, a freak of nature who misses bats…and the zone.
In return, they get a 28-year-old pitcher with 2 option years after this one who’s doing fine in AAA. He’ll be on the Durham shuttle. And they get a left-handed hitting catcher (!) with an .837 OPS in 1200 AAA at bats.
Not bad, although I’m sure they were tempted to keep Serwinowski.
What I don’t get is the Reds. Is Littell really that much of an upgrade over Belle?
He just pitched 5 innings today vs. Yankees. No runs allowed but also walked 4 I believe. He’s a good pickup for the Reds
Why?! We have Green, Lodolo, Abbott, Martinez, Burns, Singer. What are we doing. We need LAUREANOOO, Ozuna, Yandy, Kwan. Why are we trading for SP? I’m glad he’s a Red but unless Yandy is packaged in this I’m confused.
Not even controlled past this year…let’s see what top prospect we gave up!!
Frustrating. We have Lowder waiting in the wings, Spiers as next year depth as well. Wade Miley to spot injuries. Where is the power thumper for the four hole we were promised. We are not losing games because of SP
None of the pitchers you named are healthy this year.
Adding a quality starter allows them to move someone to the bullpen: Chase Burns. He’s lights out the first time through a lineup. Burns would be electric at the back end of the bullpen. Plus, it limits his innings.
Lowder is otw back, currently rehabbing, Spiers is out for this year, likely next. Miley’s an old man who will spot injuries when healthy in a month or so.
Are you really a Reds fan? Lowder is out for the year. Regan and unable to be ready until 2026. They are prepping him for Winter ball so he’s ready for next year. Spiers had TJ and is out for another whole year.
Wade Miley?? Why not just see if Jack Billingham is available? I would love a power bat that does not cost all the best Reds prospects who is signed another 2 years after that.
They want to win as boring as possible by pitching and defense. Even then they are 6th in NL in runs scored and 11th in MLB.
I heard Sammy Ellis is trying to make a comeback. Stop the presses. Sammy passed. My bad.
Maybe additional trade(s) in the works that would send out a starter who Littell then replaces. Or an injury that isn’t made public yet. There are a couple different reasons that would make sense. Just a wait and see type thing, I suppose.
Agreed but personally I don’t want our rotation touched. If it ain’t broke… Martinez is the outlier due to his contract and age. Burns, Lodolo, Green, Lowder, and Abbott better be Reds by Friday morning or we riot.
You can NEVER have too much pitching
Death, Taxes & The Rays trading an impending Free Agent.
Rays doing what no one else does and that’s moving players every year and keeping their farm system stocked. That’s how you can field a competitive team nearly every damn season.
What? That’s literally what the Brewers do every year
Pirates- y’all hear this right? Lol
True but look at them now. Needing a LF bat. Guess who plays LF Randy Fing Arozarena. Send Hopkins, Smith and throw in Fairbanks to get our boy back. We will never win a world series with this model. Its pointless until we get new ownership that can invest in the future. Shipping the now for hopes of the uncertain later is the Rays way. Its keeping them a float and borderline relevant while frustrating the loyal fanbase.
Everyone loves how the brewers and rays run their organizations but neither has won a World Series. Barely even been to one
Hey if you know where to get money trees, the Brewers are interested.
Money trees grow quite well in NY and LA
Rays are just picking up a controllable player(s) for a impending FA. Plus it gets them out from offering a QO.
Serwinowski seems like someone the Rays would target here. Balcazar or Holman would be really interesting.
Is it 2 PTBNLs?
They will want and get more than that…
They’re getting two prospects, and we’ll see who soon, I’m just throwing out names the Rays would seem to have interest in, knowing the type of players they usually go for in trades like this.
Looks like one of the two players is a major leaguer so one prospect and one current major leaguer.
hinds
I can live with that
Connor Joe seems fair, right?
Turns out it was Van Belle and Serwinowski.
Good call
But to LA
What are the Reds doing?
They’re just being 5 games over .500 and trying to compete for a change.
No wonder he’s asking.
I get it but their moves are puzzling me. I don’t like the Hayes trade, and their rotation was already full. I guess if they’re planning on moving Burns to the bullpen, trading for Littell makes some sense.
Nice knowing ya Burns!
Unless this means Kwan for Lodolo?
I wouldn’t be against that.. Love what Lodolo has done this season, but it’s just a matter of time before he’s hurt again..
That makes sense. Kwan is a defensive specialist with little power- reds love the type
Kwan is an allstar, quality plus defender, good speed and high OBP and you seem to dissing him? You would like to have 10-15 homers a year more than less overall tools than Kwan?
Definitely not dismissing my guy Rich Homey Kwan ! It’s not plus 10-15 homers thou bc whoever else had those 600 abs will generate more homers than that. Prob more stolen bases too. If reds get him thou, I’m all for it !
Why do people assume stuff like this? Have people here been watching MLB since 2020? Teams needs 6-7 starters. Swing guys. Martinez and Burns can both go to the bullpen if Hunter comes back. It’s just weird being confused about pitching depth when you see the Dodgers and their Mash unit of pitchers.
Still no bat… I can tell you what they’re thinking. We don’t need to add an outfield bat, we just did so by moving Marte to RF.. but hey, we just added a GG third baseman (Who, as Marty used to say.. couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a rowboat)
I did not envision the Reds as aggressive buyers!
Wait until the deadline completely plays out before second guessing every move the team makes? There is a damn good chance that acquiring a starting pitcher means another Reds SP is about to be moved for the middle of the order bat that is needed.
If there aren’t any moves after this, then you can go ahead and proceed with your complaints about the Reds not filling their needs and making useless trades.
Delusional.
What’s delusional about waiting and seeing how it all unfolds? They’ve already made two deals today. There could be another move or two before the deadline ends. They could very well set themselves up great for the rest of the year without mortgaging the future.
The Reds are too cheap to get a “middle-of-the-order” bat. That’s why they got Hayes instead (who is only marginally better than Espinal at this point since the team really needs offense).
Nah, I think this is about improving the bullpen by moving Burns and then (when Greene returns) Martinez there. You have a pen of Pagan, Santillan, Martinez, Burns, and Ashcraft, and all of a sudden the relief corps starts to look really really good.
In a year when all the Rays starters were just very bad, Littell has been that consistent solid piece in the rotation. I wish him and the Reds luck.
The Reds just bolstered their ‘pen. Martinez (barring a trade) will be moved to the pen as he’s the swingman and now- odd man out. We have an abundance of SP’s. If we don’t get an OF thumper we’re cooked turkey. This only moves the needle if it leads to a bonafide offensive slugger.
That’s a pretty nice rotation though, bro! Arms alone can win games and your lineup isn’t half bad… anyway, good luck and hope we can meet in the Postseason.
I also like the idea of moving burns to the pen for the season.
As long as the HRs are solo shots in a tough park for pitchers.
A guy leading the league in HR allowed heading to GABP?
Jesus Christ – are they trying to recreate the Eric Milton experience?
They play half their games elsewhere. Maybe he never pitches at home.
This deal is slowly growing
A third team???
This is the first I have heard of the “mystery team” this deadline. They have been very quiet.
Burns will not be going back to AAA. He will move to the pen. And will be an absolute weapon down the stretch.
We got the mystery team in play now. Who is it going to be?
Reds got BVB fro BoSox for Cash! I’m good with that…
Yahoo Sports Reds roster np longer shows TJ Friedl, nor did he play in Wednesday game
He’s on paternity leave..
Old friend BVB
Lol Nightengale.
What happened to you, Mystery Team?
Come on Bob
Whose the 3rd team?
Bob made a mess
I guess this makes the Reds a Littell better
I see what you did there!
Rays just gave him away.
Yeah it feels like it right now. Very surprised with how solid he’s been. I wonder if we see a fire sale tomorrow.
Probably not enough value on the Rays for a fire sale. The only leftover valuable players the Rays would be willing to trade are Diaz/Fairbanks/BLowe
They’d have lost him after this year anyway. This Belle guy they got in return has options and is a similar pitcher.
More to the point, they got a catcher with an .800+ OPS over 1200 ABs in AAA.
Can’t believe Nightengale got it wrong
He may have not????
Oh, my faith in Bob is potentially restored
Serwinowski looks like a future late innings reliever. Rays probably have bigger plans than that and they have the development to do it.
I believed you the entire time bob
This edging is unreal. One moment its a three team trade, the next its not
Edging? Dawg.
Reds are the Angels of the National League….
Arte Moreno spends money, Bob Castellini does not.
The end.
Arte Moreno throws away money. Bob Castellini does not. Fixed….
Bob Castellini neither spends nor throws away money, meaning he doesn’t give a flying rat’s tail about the Reds. Fixed.
lol. Angels in a league of their own out of all sports
Red Sox get Steven Matz per Passan
So is this a little trade ?
Red chasing the coveted “Best Team to Miss the Playoffs” Award.
This story has more twists and turns than Lord of the Rings
Love this trade for the Reds.
Why? He’s probably going to give up 2 homers per start at home from here on out.
Trade breaks down like this: Three-way trade, per ESPN sources: Dodgers receive: LHP Adam Serinowski, RHP Paul Gervase, C Ben Rortvedt Rays receive: C Hunter Feduccia, RHP Brian Van Belle Reds receive: RHP Zack Littell
Nice pick up for the Red’s. The 3b man from Pitt?¿?¿
Rays fleeced themselves, the other two walk out with much more
Reds get a mid rotation rental – give up a solid A ball prospect and a guy they picked up off the street
Rays keep the random guy (no idea but I trust our OF) and flip the prospect for a C that hits and is under team control for 6+ years.
Dodgers get a pitching prospect, a AAAA relief arm and a backup C.
As a rays fan, in a lost year, I’m okay with it.
As a Rays fan this feels light af. Does anyone know anything about Hunter Feduccia? He isn’t listed on the Dodger’s top 30
Edit: Seems like he has a nice bat in AAA (avgs around .280 with 9-12 Hrs a year the past 2 years. Not sure what his defensive profile is, but he is under team control for 6+ years. Solid move that hopefully shores up the catcher position.
He’s did alright as a back up catcher when he came up
So my assumption is Hunter Feduccia being traded means Dalton Rushing isn’t not moving, unless a trade involving Rushing includes a back up catcher.
Sorry for the double negative…not moving
Well, they took back Rortvedt, so there’s a possibility that he becomes the backup for Smith.
Rortvedt is worse than Barnes, so likely just minor league filler….
2 catchers
It wasn’t reported here, but the other night Roberts took Rushing off the table. He said he can’t imagine him being traded. Since he’s arguably their best trade chip, it looks like the Dodgers have decided to go fishing for minnows instead.
Apparently, Friedman thinks they can repeat with what they got….
I dunno, I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
Let’s see if any of these three guys they got get flipped tomorrow for something else
It’s been known to happen, but they did make their best trade chip unavailable. So we’ll see who they can use as a centerpiece in a meaningful trade.
I hope other fans realize that the Rays do not fleece anyone anymore. So many bad decisions the last few seasons. Time for Neander to go with Stu. Out the door.
I like the trade personally. The catcher hits well in AAA and its a position that we have needed for a long time. Not every trade needs to be a fleece.
You’re not wrong and I don’t entirely disagree with you. But whenever the Rays make a trade everyone thinks they’re always gonna win and give Neander undeserved credit when the reality is that he has made a lot of puzzling (at best) and dreadful (at worst) trades since their WS appearance. The other side of that is I don’t trust the Rays to develop Catchers very well, so at least I was hoping they could get someone who’s ready to step in and play.
It’s also puzzling considering they just traded away Jansen (whom they could have resigned), and traded for Nick Fortes who has a few more years on his contract. They also have two more Catchers who are doing decent in their system that they don’t seem to have given any chances to play in the bigs.
So they basically have 5 potential catchers next season (Thaiss, Keegan, Driscoll, Fortes, Feduccia). So I just don’t get the move when the Rays desperately need pitching.
The Dodgers get the best prospect, the Reds get an SP, and the Rays get a C with more years of service control. I don’t really understand the Rays’ motivation here.
Same thing with Morel last year. Just bad decisions from Neander and Co. Really hope they don’t let the door hit them on the way out.
Bummer. I’ll never understand these three-team deals, besides the obvious cash motivation. Serinowski and Van Belle would’ve been a solid enough return for Littel.
They must like Feduccia more than they like Serwinowski
I think that’s fair, but the difference in service time stands out like a sore thumb.
But but 39.2 incredible innings of Eric Orze after he flamed out with the Mets.
Serwinowski? He was drafted in the 15th round. A lottery ticket, at best.
Lefty with two plus pitches holding his own in Hi-A at 21 is better than a lottery ticket. Even with reliever risk, that’s a great profile and return for a 28-year-old AAA catcher with no path to playing time.
Have it your way, he’s a lottery ticket and a bus token. Let’s pretend the Dodgers don’t need a closer. Okay, I’m done pretending.
Jackson Ferris was in nearly the same position when the Dodgers acquired him in the Busch trade, and now he’s one of their top prospects. Again, even if Serwinowski never sticks as a starter, it’s a great win on the edges because they got their lotto ticket for free, considering they just sourced Feduccia’s AAA replacement in the same trade.
Sorry, still not pretending.
So tell me who the best prospect dealt was.
Not the relevant question. The Dodgers bullpen is currently one of the worst in baseball. So the relevant question is what this trade did to fix it. I know the answer. Do you?
Maybe they will pull off something tomorrow at the bell that moves that needle. The point being, this sure isn’t it.
I’m sure the Dodgers will make additional moves, but that has nothing to do with my original comment. We’re talking past each other. I’ll look forward to their new BP by tomorrow’s deadline.
My sureness score just dropped by around 50 points. The last good move the Dodgers had to fix their bullpen was Miller. The Padres made it instead.
Still plenty of good relievers to be had. I do get the sense that the Dodgers are a bit prospect-huggy, but also it’s hard to beat a package for a top-3 prospect in all of baseball. I’m guessing they’ll go more of a bulk route with Maton, Coulombe, etc.
Nobody likes giving up prospect capital, but sometimes it has to be done. Big problems call for it, and they had an expendable top prospect in Rushing. But they held him back. Why, I have no idea.
All the quality high-leverage arms are already off the market. Nothing left but crumbs.
Bednar
But is Bednar really available? The Pirates have been reluctant to move him in the past.
Well, looks like Rushing isn’t going to be traded. Looks like a restocking trade for the Dodgers.
I’m unfamiliar with the players the Dodgers received. Can anyone give me info on them?
2 back of pen pieces. 1 could be a starter with development of third pitch.
Astonishing. The Rays send away more bodies than they receive. Such an exchange rarely happens.
So the Rays are really getting fleeced in this one
Reds*
Least present value but obviously seen something they like and think they can get most of.
If the rays ever get a longterm catcher, watch out rest of the league. Until then they seem to keep falling over themselves trying to get a longterm answer behind the plate, and failing miserably. How many young catchers have they trade for? Hunt, Jackson, Mejia, Rorvedlt, Thaiss, and those are just off the top of the head.
This seems like a good move for the Reds. However since the trade is with the Rays, There’s a possibility Littell will turn into a pumpkin after 6 starts and one of the guys the Rays got will give them like 10 BWAR over the next 3 seasons and cost like a buck seventy-five…..
A+ for LA. They just dumped their spare parts and got to electric arms for future back of pen. Maybe 1 starter and reliever.
B for Cincinnati. MLB ready to go starter for future reliever.
C for Tampa.
Incredible. Just Incredible.
Yeah let’s go! We brought the guy who’s given up the most HR’s this year to pitch more in Cincinnati! Boom!
This isn’t the worst deal for the Reds, but you gotta think they’re hoping to trade one of the starters for some outfield pop. If not, I think Burns finishes the year in the bullpen versus a AAA stint. His stuff is electric the first time through a lineup.
Suboptimal for GABP? Yeah, I believe they missed the point again. They need someone who has hit 26 homeruns, not given them up. Someone who can hit with runners on base and 2 outs when they’re behind. Something they don’t have, and haven’t for a couple of years.
Oh well, now they just have more payroll, and no change to their current situation. “Suboptimal” offense and bad defense.
Littlell’s line at GABP (albeit only 4 games)….317-.317-.585. 3 homeruns against in 9 innings.
Still waiting on the Reds to acquire offensive help…
Nick Krall is the worst executive in the MLB and its not really close. Has absolutely no clue and reminds me of a Tri Lamb from Revenge Of The Nerds movie.
LOVE this trade for the Rays. Who’d they give up? And who’d they get?
