« Tigers Said To Be Targeting Wuertz; Cubs Disagree | Main | Orioles Eyeing Cubs' Marshall? »
Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez expressed no discomfort with his contract situation (Boston has $20MM options for 2009 and 2010). "They're not stupid," he said of his bosses in the Sox front office. "They know. They know I can play and I'm ready. That's it. I'm going to get the two options, then I'm going to get a four-year deal. I'm just going to go and get it." That would have Manny retiring at the age of 42. "Age is just a number," he added.

Hahaha, yep yep Manny! There is speculation that they might not even pick up your 09 option yet you feel they will not only pick up the two years but also sign you for two more on top of it? 4 years to a 38YO slugger who cant seem to finish a season anymore? Oh, and those 2 options means 40M over the first two years alone? Come on Manny, someone has to be telling you to stop saying this ~ and I would suggest you listen to them! Telling the Boston FO through the media what they should, and more asinine, “will” do might just anger them enough to where they look closely at other options as soon as next year...

"Age is just a number" Did Manny read the espn piece on Kenny Lofton? (They were teammates before, so I guess maybe he did?)
Thats the second time in a week I've read a player quoted as saying that.

Huh? This thread sure went through all kinds of dramatic changes… Ok, well since the topic and body changed so much, I would also like to change my “2 years to a 38YO” to “4” ~ which is even worse!
Oh Manny, before I though you were rather foolish; with the update though, I now think you are just completely clueless… :\
"Thats the second time in a week I've read a player quoted as saying that."
...Its understandable though. I mean, the rest of society has been saying it for generations (Ie, Charlie Chaplin, Woody Allen, R.Kelly, etc…) :)

Red Sox will not pick up his '09 option.
"Age is just a number"? PECOTA disagrees.

I actually think that the Red Sox will pick up his option. Two reasons: 1. It's only money, and Boston is rolling in it. 2. Andruw Jones is getting $18MM this year. Only a couple million more for Manny? Sounds like a bargain.
However, Manny is out in left field (so to speak) on that 4-year deal two years from now.

Lets stop dissing Manny right now. This man jokes around all season long, hits .300+ with over 100 rbi's and 20-35 homers. If you ask me thats still a solid outfielder. He has been injured a bit the past 2 years, but his playoff numbers don't lie. He is probably the most overshadowed playoff performer in baseball right now. Jeter can hand him his Mr. October because Manny now has more postseason homers than any player in history. Not only will the Sox re-sign Manny, they will give him 18+ million a year to have him retire in a Boston uniform. Manny is a Red Sock, and if he wants to retire in Boston, I don't see them turning him down.
