Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post reports (via Twitter) that the Mets acquired Chip Ambres from the Red Sox. Ambres, 29, played three games for the Mets in 2007 before hitting .195 in 24 games for the Padres last year . He's played all three outfield positions in the majors since his 2005 debut with the Royals. The Mets assigned him to Triple A Buffalo.

Wow, exciting. I'm so happy to be a Mets fan today.

i remember his 1 hit in 2007 was a big one that scored the winning run in LA

Uh Why? Do the Mets really need filler in AAA that bad?

I wonder what the RED SOX get out of this?

I remember too. Broxton came in to close that game cause Saito was hurt. I believe they tied it up with a Shawn Green sac fly and Ambres won it in extras with a topspin ground ball through the left side. This is Chip Ambres world ladies and gentleman, w're just living in it.

I'm assuming signing David Dellucci made too much sense for the Mets, so we traded for Ambres instead.
Posted by: moebarguy | June 10, 2009 at 04:21 PM
Right, because David Dellucci made perfect sense. It isn't as if they already have Gary Sheffield, Fernando Tatis, Ryan Church, Fernando Martinez, Jeremy Reed, and Daniel Murphy all capable of playing the OF. The Mets obviously needed David Dellucci, forget about the fact that he is completely awful on defense, overlook the fact that he has posted sub 700 OPS 2 of the last 3 years (with an out of this world .711 OPS in the other year), why does any of that matter? The Mets will obviously fall short of their ultimate goals this year, and you need look no further then the day they passed on David Dellucci.

Supermarket coupons and a bag of balls? Seriously though, probably another AAA scrub in return.

Anyone think the Sox could get Mets AA outfielder Carl Loadenthal?
Posted by: Youkk11111 | June 10, 2009 at 04:51 PM
one who is carl loadenthal? and 2 why does omar waste his time with ambres when he should be getting Hawpe/Derosa/Rios/Holliday

Maybe we will send them Wily Mo Pena in return. Seriously, where is Esix Snead? I'm sure we can fit him into our last place AAA outfield in Buffalo.

Why do you want a 28 year old AA outfielder? Then again it's for Chip Ambres
Posted by: TheWrightStuff | June 10, 2009 at 05:23 PM
I was just throwing that out there because he is a friend of my family and I'd love to have him in the Sox organization.

Boston probably gets a big absolutely C- A ball guy for Ambres. Boston has several guys coming off of the DL for the AAA roster already, including a real prospect in Zach Daeges and just needed to clear a roster spot. The PawSox aready have AAAA retreads like Guzman, Baily, VanEvery and don't need any more.
