Royals Rumors: Greinke, Gordon, Francoeur

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | November 11, 2010 at 2:18pm CDT

Royals GM Dayton Moore told Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star that he doesn't expect to trade Zack Greinke any time soon. “There’s nothing in the works, and I don’t anticipate anything happening real quick unless someone calls and just blows us away," Moore said. "I haven’t made any calls to clubs.” Here's the latest on Greinke and the Royals:

  • The Blue Jays aren't the only AL East team to inquire on Greinke; the Red Sox have also expressed interest.
  • The Blue Jays are one of many teams with interest in Alex Gordon, but Royals officials say they won’t dump the former top prospect for a small return.
  • Moore says “Jeff [Francoeur] is a winning-type baseball player who brings a lot of energy.” It sounds like the Royals have some interest in the free agent, but Moore cautioned that a potential deal would have to work for both sides.
  • Japanese clubs are interested in Phil Humber and Bryan Bullington, but the players would have to approve any deal.
  • The Royals allowed former prospect Chris McConnell to become a minor league free agent over the winter.

“Francoeur is a winning type baseball player who brings a lot of energy”

How did this guy get a GM job???

Well clearly if you want to build your team around OBP having a GM that spots assets like Francoeur is key.

        Francoeur’s career OBP is .310.

Well, the Royals farm system is pretty good. The Royals just need to ban Moore from signing free agents, and well, talking.

Having watch “Frenchy” go from a #5 hitter to a bench player with the “Mutts”, I say Ditto about the GM.

Is there a bigger divide on any one player in MLB over value than Jeff Franceour?

Berating him is an internet phenomenon, like that kid on Youtube who mouths the pop songs! 🙂

“Divide” suggests that there are people other than Dayton Moore who think he is good at baseball. There are none.

Ha…true. Although, he has managed to pin down an MLB job for a few years now with multiple organizations, albeit eventually getting dumped by all of them, but still.

I’d rather see Brad Hawpe first, and then maybe Frenchy for the short side of that platoon.

Beware of posting negatives on Francouer. You’re going to get a bunch of crazies sighting all kinds of stats showing what a great hitter he is against lefties and what a cannon arm he has and his wonderful clubhouse chemistry… tread lightly they’re out there waiting to pounce.

Hhaha I think everybody anticipated this move once Frenchy became a FA and Dejesus was traded.

The worst part is that GMDM won’t just sign Francoeur. He’ll give him two years, well over the $800,000 that he’s actually worth during those two years, and an undeserved amount of playing time.

Alex Gordon seems like a good fit for Toronto. He has enough upside to warrant the risk. Wonder how much KC will be asking for him? I also thought the idea I read from an earlier poster that suggested thee team sign Hudson and move Hill to 3B.

Ugh to Gordon. Jays need players that can get on base. A .328 career OBP doesn’t impress me.

explain why you don’t want a second overall pick underperforming due to being rushed to the majors.
and its not like we’d have to give blue chips for him either

Because I’m sick of all the people who cry over getting Brandon Wood and Alex Gordon; sometimes these players are just busts. I hate this horrible meme of ‘Well if he comes here and our ‘insert hitting coach here’ works with him, he’ll be a stud like he’s supposed to be!’ Oh plus he has to go back to 3B. Luke Hochevar was a #1 pick, should we go trade for him?

Course nobody thought Hochevar was going to be great…… and everybody though alex was.

Regardless if he was rushed or not, 1641PA and a .328 career OBP is junk. He can mash in AAA, but can’t touch MLB pitching. He’s a AAAA player, probably for his career too.

Where you get drafted doesn’t mean much. Pujols could well become one of the greatest hitters ever in the game once his career is done, and he was drafted in the 13th round.

Don’t you just love hot stove? Greinke rumors all over. If he ends up with Toronto and they still have Marcum (assuming he stays healthy) they’re going to have a nice 1-2 punch. Marcum has shown signs of a great pitcher when he’s right.

Toronto doesn’t need Greinke. They already have Romero, Morrow, and Marcum.
