- After the window to make picks has closed, we’ll post a public leaderboard page so you can see who’s winning the contest as players sign with teams. We’re going to use entrants’ full names on it. So, if that concerns you, please do not enter the contest. Entries with inappropriate names will be deleted.
- We are also collecting email addresses, which I will use to notify winners.
- If a player signs between now and the close of the contest, that’s a freebie, but you still need to go in and make the correct pick.
- After you submit your picks, you’ll receive an email from Google Forms. In that email, you’ll see a button that allows you to edit your picks.
- We will announce the winners on MLBTR once all 50 free agents have signed. We will award $500 to first place, $300 to second place, and $100 to third place. We will also be giving one-year memberships to Trade Rumors Front Office for everyone who finishes in the top 15. Winners must respond to an email within one week.
- The winners of this contest will be declared on Opening Day 2023, and any unsigned players will be excluded from the competition.
- Ties in the correct number of picks will be broken by summing up the rankings of the free agents of the correct picks and taking the lower total. For example: Tim and Steve each get two picks correct. Tim gets Aaron Judge (#1 ranking) and Noah Syndergaard (#21 ranking) for a total of 22 points. Steve gets Carlos Rodon (#6) and Jameson Taillon (#14) for a total of 20 points. Steve’s total is lower and he’s ahead of Tim for tiebreaker purposes.

My recollection is that you would beat several of the MLBTR staff just by picking every free agent to return to his last team.

I just picked Angels except for the ten or so players where the team screamed out to me. Someone tell me I’m wrong and then I can crowdsource my picks. None of those are good ideas.
The winner will be the person who picks three or four players correctly that 97% of the entrants guessed wrong.
Which is why I picked more or less at random, after discarding the rebuilders for most of them. I think last year, including the freebies, I only got 5 or 6 right.

I can make 48 of the 50 picks, but it won’t allow the remaining 2 picks. I tried doing it all over a second time, and it blocks a different spot the second time.
Maybe that’s Related to Martinez and Anderson? Just a guess-I haven’t submitted mine yet.
They should mute all the contest participants who don’t get a certain % correct. Until they do that there’s no point in me participating and getting a top 100 spot year in and year out. But in order to do that you gotta actually know how baseball teams operate and not live in a fantasy reality.

After I submitted my picks it states I can change my selections up 11pm on Monday November 15th. Monday is the 14th.
I have to fix that – a remnant from last year’s form. Actual deadline is Wed Nov 16 at 11pm central time.
I can’t tell if my submission has gone through. Nothing seems to happen when I hit the SUBMIT button, and I have not received an email with a copy of my responses (and I have checked my spam folder).
ETA: I just clicked on the link again, and it was populated with all my picks, so I guess it did work.

Mr Irrelevant: #50: Drew Ruchinski — he has a better shot than Adam Duvall of getting signed? To know he’s only a couple spots behind Justin Turner, Ottavino, Chris Martin, Clevinger and Kluber — begs the question: who is this guy that’s never had an average ERA+ even as a RP?
You must not have read the blurb about him in the list then.
He’s gone on to become a really good starter in the KBO. Whether he can translate that to MLB remains to be seen, but there’s a strong recent track record of guys like that getting good money when they come back to North America.

I submitted my picks yet never got an email. How can I edit them? In fact, instead of being forced to do that, why can’t the staff just throw out the selections of any players who have signed before the 16th @ 1qp?
I’m having the same exact issue, is there a way to find it and fix it?

Unfortunately I can’t really offer support on why someone wouldn’t get an email. What happens if you go back to the form URL, logged in to the email address you used? Do you see your picks?
Throwing out the players who already signed is not a bad idea. But since the contest is already open and the rules are laid out, probably something for next year.

Tim – I don’t see the point in throwing out players who have already signed. For those who read MLBTR and know who signed, it’s like a free space on a bingo card.
And if anybody entering doesn’t know who signed already, then shame on them for not keeping up with MLBTR – they don’t deserve the freebie!

Isn’t it harder to predict where Rucinski goes than Judge?
My general feeling is that it’s more valuable to get the #1 free agent correct than #50, in the case of a tie.
