2025 Arbitration Tracker

By Steve Adams,Anthony Franco,Darragh McDonald and Leo Morgenstern | January 9, 2025 at 9:45pm CDT

Today is the deadline for players and teams to exchange figures in arbitration — an annual deadline that leads to a slew of one-year deals and, typically, a handful of multi-year deals. Today should see upwards of 100 players agree to salaries for the 2025 season, although the majority of clubs and players now wait until the very last minute to agree. The deadline for agreements is noon CT, and we’ll see terms on plenty of last-minute/buzzer-beating deals filter in shortly thereafter. Players and teams that do not reach an agreement will exchange salary figures at 7pm CT tonight.

Each player’s service time is in parentheses, and you can of course check back to see each player’s projected salary from MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz. We’ll keep this updated as deals come in — refresh for updates — and break off some of the larger, more prominent agreements in separate entries. All agreements are for one year unless otherwise noted.

178: Wells is part of that infield and poised to be a top 3 hitting catcher. As for Jazz you don’t just get to declare he’s useless. He has legit pop and speed. Make or break year for Volpe and Goldy likely to best the flotsam and jetsum of last year. The “mystery” infielder is just that until acquired. I’d try breathing…

Well, as it turns out, Chris Illich and the Tigers’ FO are the biggest Robin Wayne Zander fans in the world…….

    So Mr. ILLICH….
Who is more important? Robin Zander? or Babe Ruth?

Cheap Trick? Makes sense. Like a lot of Tigers fans, they can’t let go of the eighties…

Except for Ward and Quijada, those numbers seem high to me for the Angels.

Quijada? Where did you see his salary? Its not listed here yet.

None of the amounts the Angels gave out are unreasonable. I expect Rengifo to get about 4.5 million.

If NYY are giving Grisham $5M, which is actually a slight pay cut but also seems very steep for how he was used by them, I guess that means Jazz Chisholm can argue for or will be offered like $7.5M since his bat is more potent and his glove is more diverse and he also has some speed? Also Chisholm has another year of arbitration left after this, so maybe like 2 years/$17.5M to try and keep that total cost down by $2M-4M?

Also Clarke Schimdt being a pitcher, I have to imagine he’ll get a slight premium on his raise- also like $7.5M or something from the Yankees? Then again he has 3 years left, so maybe like 3 years/$24.75M to buy him out and keep his overall cost down?

Hopefully Tyler Stephenson is getting an extension.

Another one year deal. Apparently they can’t lock up their own. Might have to do with management not supporting them when it counted. Guys remember. Sad for the fans when they break them up.

We’ve seen this happen over and over.

Duran and the Sox couldn’t reach a deal?

I don’t forsee this ending well for Duran. If they go to arbitration, I think it will negatively affect him so hopefully they can reach a deal somehow.

I pointed this out weeks ago, I’ll point this out again …. the only position player who didn’t commit to FSG Fest is Duran.

Probably not a coincidence he hasn’t reached an agreement on his 2025 salary.

And Devers just now backed out of FSG Fest too. Not good.

Gwynning – I’m hoping the extension solves the short term and long term problem! I’m good with Cease leaving in FA for a QO pick (Musgrove returning in 26) but King is a must keeper for me.

Pool – I hope you’re right, but them not being there is a big deal unless they’ve got legitimate reasons.

      Let’s see what happens.

Pool – It wouldn’t surprise me if the Red Sox knew for a while that Devers wouldn’t be there, but continued to use his name until yesterday just to try and sell tickets. Either way, not a good look.

And Duran is asking for only $500K, he deserves it after all he did for the team last year.

So the Red Sox voluntarily give Crochet 33% more (millie) but they are nickel and diming Duran for half that amount? Kinda sends a message as to whom they would like to extend and who they don’t.

Fpg i see your point on duran but if you look at it from the teams perspective they gave him 760k in 2024 after an injury shortened season in 2023 and now are offering 3.5 million in 2025. If my math is accurate that a 360% raise its not just 500k of 3.5 ..consider the massive increase the team has on the table. What other business does that for an internal candidate? None..so while i understand mlb isnt the real world its not like they slapped him in the face either with a 360% raise

Question for those familiar with WAR computations: how did Evan Phillips end up with a negative 0.6 WAR for the season? His conventional stats were all solid: 5-1 , 18SV, 1..189 WHIP, 63K/.54IP

If the WAR is set that an ‘average player’ at a position is 2.0, how did Phillips get negative? What am I missing here.?

“Typically” can’t have commas around it when it’s used in the middle of the sentence.
