Moises Alou to the Mets?
It's in Spanish, but this article seems to suggest the Mets and Moises Alou are close to deal that includes an $8 million salary for 2007. I can't tell whether it's a one-year deal or it's a multi-year deal that isn't fully reported.

he wouldnt be a bad pick up actually...

It's a horrendous signing.

Sooo... they traded for Johnson to put him on the bench? Anyone else feel sorry for Endy Chavez? I mean that catch in game 7 showed how good he is as a defender...

Chavez is a terrific fielder, and is lightning fast. But he hits like me - and that's not pretty. Left field in the major leagues is at the extreme left end of the defensive spectrum. It's the world of big muscled mashers who run like maple syrup in January (that's slow). There is no way Endy starts in LF for anybody - especially a team in direct competition with the Yankees. Moises fits the bill...

moises is one of the best hitters in the league when healthy.
he's an annual 900+ OPS.
id rathr 400 ABs of that then 550 ABs of a 775 OPS.

Wouldn't be a bad pick-up. He is, like previously stated, a .900 OPS guy when healthy. He is a right-handed stick, can now bat 6th or 7th...and with Endy and Johnson as the apparent 4th-5th outfielders, there is some depth should Alou need a rest or get hurt. Rather have Alou for one year @ $8 mill than get fleeced by the other FAs on the market.

EM3, why don't you go Hrmph yourself, or let JD Drew fleece you for $15mill/per. Either or...

Moises is an absolute beast.
He hits like Manny when healthy at half the price.
Posted by: bsox21 | November 18, 2006 at 11:49 AM
The key is "if healthy". If he can stay healthy, it's a great pickup.

I just heard a rumor that the Mets are also going to bring in Rickey Henderson, Nolan Ryan, and Phil f$ckin Rizutto. And don't worry about their ages. People like Glavine and Alou will be able to mentor them.
Haha.....Moises Alou.

It's allright, man....you can WASTE your money on heartless, gutless players like JD Drew....still won't get you back to the dance.
Theo loves fleecing himself.

I just used this 'Spanish to English' Converter (http://ets.freetranslation.com/) and got the following result..
The Mets of new York are just about to sign al Dominican Moses Alou by a total reckoned in eight million dollars for the season of the 2007, according to it expressed a close source al gardener.
The agreement is almost sure that be concluded this weekend and the assembly will proceed to the confirmation and presentation of the veteran, who will become a Hispanic one more than passes to form rows of the subways.
Last night was reported that the player was outside of the Capital city, but people close to were echoed him of the movement.
The virtual firm of Moses with the Mets would become the gardener the left of that assembly, being joining with Carlos Beltrán and Shawn Green. Cliff Floyd, who has performed that position in the last three years, is an agent free and do not it is expected that the club sign it again.
To be specified the pact with Moses, would join with José Kings, Pedro Martínez, July Franco, Guillermo Dot, Duaner Sánchez and Anderson Hernández, as the Dominican ballplayers that act for the assembly that has as general manager al native Omar Minaya.
Alou would fortify exceedingly the house to be able of the Metro, that already counts on Beltrán, the own Green, as well as Carlos Thin and David Wright.
Feel free to use it for other things like the one the other day on Matsuzaka.

I rescind my earlier comments. After thinking about it, this actually makes a lot of sense. If the Mets can get 400-500 at bats out of this guy, it will be worth it.
I wonder who they're gonna trade Milledge to. That guy's stock has fallen so much in a year.

startwearingpurple, yeahh they traded for ben johnson to put him on the bench. You were expecting him to start. I had an arguement with my dad saying i would like to sign alou to a short contract. Like bsox said he rakes when healthy. Endy chavez will still get lots of playing time, i would say atleast 250 atbats. Dave mac it isnt fair to say endy chavez cant hit( i assume thats what you were saying, unless you are a pretty good hitter). He did hit 300 this year in 350 atbats, hitting 300 against both righties and lefties. Purple i understand your point about him earning time, but watching the mets on a regular basis, he will get exposed as an everyday player. Pitchers willfind out what he cant hit quicker, and get him out over and over, we saw sings of this in the playoffs. I wonder if the mets would consider dropping delgado to the 5 hole and batting wright cleanup, to get back that R/L/R/L goin in their lineup

EM3 its funny you say that shit about henderson he actually worked with the mets during spring training an the 06 season and worked mostly with joese reyes. Coincedence he had a breakout season this year?

Moises is done as a fielder. He couldn't stay healthy simply running station to station. His injuries came while playing in RF, while running the bases, he's done. I watched him on the Giants the last two years and he'll be a bust for any NL team. There is no "if he could stay healthy". He'd be lucky to make 100-110 games as a DH. He's worse off than Frank Thomas. This would be a HORRID signing for ANY NL team. NO NL team should even have this guy on there "Plan C list". A's, Angels, Rangers, Twins, Orioles would be smart moves as a DH although he'd be wasted on the Rangers and Orioles since they wont be competeing for anything.

Moises is so done as a NL player that Brian Sabean hasn't even attemtped to re-sign him and he's OBSESSED with old guys, I don't care what he says about what he wants to do this year, look at the players he's wanting....(Suppan, etc...)
Signing a CF just means he isn't going to give Linden(RF) a shot despite looking like a solid young player two years in a row now.....that organization is lost...
If Mets sign Moises, good luck with the bench warmer...
Posted by: Droptop | November 19, 2006 at 03:02 AM
he can still swing it though
Posted by: nrmax88 | November 19, 2006 at 08:29 AM
Doesn't matter if he can still swing, playing in the field kills him.
Posted by: Droptop | November 19, 2006 at 04:29 PM
Droptop,
over half the players in the league play comparable defense to Alou.
Alou happens to still be one of the 10-15 best hitters in the league.
Shut your trap....

bsox - Just watch what happens to Alou this season.......
40yr olds don't just overcome hamstraing issues, especially when they've been giving him problems two years straight...
