« Hiroki Kuroda Rumors: Wednesday | Main | Padres To Acquire First Rule 5 Pick, Take Barton? »
UPDATE, 12-6-07 at 1:10am: Geoff Baker believes the Mariners are still in on Bedard, and that no team has beaten their offer yet. However, that offer still may not be enough for Andy MacPhail and Co.
UPDATE, 12-5-07 at 1:38pm: Jon Heyman says Bedard turned down a three-year extension offer from the Orioles. He has some interesting thoughts; check it out.
Meanwhile there's chatter of a 610 WIP report coming out of Philly about the team's attempts to acquire Bedard. Something like Kyle Kendrick, Shane Victorino, Carlos Carrasco, and others. I don't put much stock in this one as the Orioles could do much better.
FROM 12-5-07 at 1:59am:
Tuesday ended with 11 teams expressing interest in Erik Bedard. Let's start a new thread for today's rumors.
Geoff Baker cautiously names the Mariners the frontrunners for Bedard, now that the Dodgers have vowed not to give up Jonathan Broxton. He says the front office is salivating over Bedard and could offer up some combination of Adam Jones, Wladimir Balentien, Brandon Morrow, and George Sherrill.

An outfield of Balentien, Jones and Markakis would be a heck of a start towards rebuilding. I'm not sure if the Mariners would give both up in any trade, but they'd each be great for the O's.

If the M's wanted to keep Jones, could they swing some kind of 3-team deal with the Mets involving Johjima/Clement?
Mariners get: Erik Bedard
Mets Get: Johjima/Clement
O's Get: Balentin, Morrow/Sherril, Gomez
Is that too lopsided in anyway? I honestly don't know much about the M's guys.
Posted by: JerseyMuscle17 | December 05, 2007 at 06:52 AM
mets have 2 catchers already.
Posted by: puroYakyu | December 05, 2007 at 07:35 AM
OMARR !!!!!! you need to get this deal done and get E B to the mets ...and stop using humber in deals he is the worst... and the mets need to start firing their scouts.. their freaking prospects are the worst.. people need to start doing a good job at these things

Do you guys believe Peter Gammons and crew when they say Bedard will still be an Oriole opening day? I don't. I also dont see anyway he becomes a Met, they just dont have the prospects. A third team would have to be brought in, and that would be too complicated for the O's to pull off. Ha.

I would LOVE for the Cubs to see what it would take here...
How about a Marmol, Pie, and Marshall deal?
Posted by: Aduncaroo | December 05, 2007 at 11:04 AM
Change Marshall to Hill and add another player and you're in the right ballpark.
Posted by: Dave | December 05, 2007 at 11:38 AM
True...Marshall really mean nothing in that deal. I was trying to get it done without including Hill...but I don't think it would happen. Marmol and Pie are top tier though...so it might be possible.

please, oh please, Bill Bavasi redeem thyself!

Funny stuff there. Can't believe someone took the time to put that together.

"Gomez, F-Mart, Pelfrey, Mulvey, Humber"
I dont know, thats absurd to me. What that basically does, is absolutely ensure that we go into the next couple of seasons with 3 pitchers spots filled, and no pitcher anywhere close to being in the major leaguers in our system. We also will have to fill LF and have nobody, same for 1B. That will mean spending like 50 or 60 million to fill 2 pitching spots, 1st base and left field over the next couple of years, not to mention leave the system bone dry, which means no more big trades for like 5 more years. Then when Omar signs average guys for too much money as free agents because he has too to fill the holes he made by gutting the farm system, the same people calling for him to gut the system for Bedard will be the ones calling Omar a fool.
I am all for getting Bedard, but you have to draw the line somewhere. I would offer up Martinez, their choice of 2 out of Humber/Pelfrey/Mulvey/Guerra and then a minor prospect or two. No way I could trade away Gomez, Pelfrey, Humber, Mulvey and F-Mart in one deal.

"Meanwhile there's chatter of a 610 WIP report coming out of Philly about the team's attempts to acquire Bedard. Something like Kyle Kendrick, Shane Victorino, Carlos Carrasco, and others."
That's total crap! That's a random package I thought up and posted on this site about this time yeserday.
Radio stations are hardly credible.

dude i would do anything to get any of the aces on the trading block. i was thinking the twins wanted an in fielder right thats why they wanted Reyes so mabey they should just substitute Ruben Gotay i mean hes pretty good he batted .295 and although he did not play every day he is just as young as Reyes...... by like a year

Yeah that package has been thrown around in Philly circles for the last week now in regards to Bedard... I think it's definately better than anything out there now... Victorino is better than Kemp... Kill me Dodger fans but I can definately back it up... Carrasco is one of the best pitching prospects out there... The package is a real solid one...
Posted by: allabouthephils | December 05, 2007 at 03:27 PM
Victorino is better than Kemp for about 10 more minutes maybe....and I'm not a Dodgers fan. Kemp will be a star...
Posted by: Aduncaroo | December 05, 2007 at 03:44 PM
...as far as the 3 player deal proposal above, why in the world would the Mets trade Gomez to get back a catcher or prospect?...I think the only reason Gomez's name has been in play is because they want Erik Bedard...not because they just want to deal him away for its own sake...

Anything that comes from 610 WIP should be ignored. They know nothing as usual.

Any chance the White Sox could make and offer how about Danks,Sweeney,Masset,Uribe?who could give them a ss to replace Tejada who they could ship to the angels?
Posted by: CUBS=NOTHING | December 06, 2007 at 01:52 AM
Whoa, I made up this rumor 2 days ago and posted it to my blog. Any chance they picked it up from there? My other was Jason Jaramillo. Here's the link to my blog if ya don't believe it. midwayphillies.blogspot.com
Oh, BTW, Bedard would be a sweet addition, better deal than Santana, plus would keep money freed up to resign Rowand. Love it. Though I would really miss Victorino.

Okay Allaboutthephils, I'm bored, so I'll bite. I would love to see how you "prove" Victorino is better than Kemp. In 300 ABs, Kemp had 10 HRs, an OBP of .373, and an OPS+ of 125. In 450 ABs, Victorino had 12 HRs, OBP of .347, and OPS+ of 94 (By the way, a 100 OPS+ is AVERAGE). Add in the fact Kemp is 4 years younger, plus a minimum salary guy, and I see absolutely nothing redeeming about Victorino.
Posted by: DodgersBruin | December 06, 2007 at 04:28 AM
OK I will explain it to you. Victorino throws out runners, Victorino runs the bases very good. His defense is among the best in the league. As a CF there would be no better defensive CF then Victorino.

Delusional Phillies fans.
In NO reality can Philadelphia offer enough to Baltimore for Erik Bedard.
Shane Victorino is an average major league centerfielder. As a corner outfielder, his offense is below average. Deal with it. Comparing Matt Kemp to Shane Victorino is insanity.
Kyle Kendrick is a pitch to contact type of pitcher. He projects, at best, to be a #3 MLB starter.
Carlos Carrasco is a nice pitching prospect. He had a fantastic 2006, but his 2007 regressed. A GO/AO of 0.67, an ERA of 4.86, and as many walks as strikeouts at double A. Not to mention his decreasing number of strikeouts at each higher level brings doubts.
Be realistic. In the NL, only the Dodgers and Diamondbacks have the players necessary to make an Erik Bedard trade.
The only reason to even listen to a Victorino/Kendrick/Carrasco for Bedard trade from the Orioles perspective is to get a good chuckle.
Ain't happening.

Roflmfao. That is your big explanation? Give me a break.

I have a hypothetical trade for the Orioles and Mariners.
How about instead of waiting for the other shoe to drop on a Roberts to the Cubs deal, we take a proactive stance and include Roberts in our deal with the Orioles.
Mariners get:
LHP Erik Bedard
2B Brian Roberts
Orioles get:
LHP Horacio Ramirez
LHP George Sherrill
RHP Brandon Morrow
RHP Sean Green
OF Adam Jones
OF Mike Morse
UTL Willie Bloomquist
