Dodgers Release Rudy Seanez
THURSDAY: Seanez might not retire if he finds the right fit. A few clubs have already contacted his agent.
WEDNESDAY: According to Tony Jackson of the L.A. Daily News, the Dodgers released reliever Rudy Seanez last night. The move should save the Dodgers about $400K and could open up a bullpen spot unless the Dodgers begin with an 11-man staff.
Jackson believes the 39 year-old Seanez will now retire. If so, he leaves on a high note - he posted a 3.79 ERA and 8.6 K/9 in 76 innings last year. Seanez played in 11 different organizations in his career.

We all know this is a Torre move to keep his toy Tanyon Sturtze

Bobby, you mean the Tanyon Sturtze who was cut several weeks ago?
If they go with a veteran to fill Seanez's spot, it'd be Mike Myers, otherwise Torre really likes the rookie Ramon Troncoso. They also have Jon Meloan to call up at some point this year.

Also a living proof of how bad the NL is right now, he was fine in the nl but the worst bum I have ever seen in a Red Sox uiform during 2006.

It's amazing how a mediocre middle reliever can last 19 seasons in the big leagues...and will most likely be 20 when somebody picks him up.

His numbers looked good, but I remember watching him choked on many clutch innings last year. I'm not talking one run blows, i'm talking walking the bases loaded then allowing a double, single, etc....but other than that he's great.

Saenez graduated from my High School-- Brawley Union High. He graduated about 6 years before me though. Anyway, if someone can make it out of that sh**hole and become a sucess, I have nothing but high hopes for them-- even if he played for the Dodgers. Maybe the Rays can use him?

The guy posted some pretty solid numbers. I'd be shocked if a team couldn't find use for him in the sixth and seventh innings in some nonpressure situations. Even if he can't take pressure situations, its not like anyone would bring him in to be a closer or set up man.

Having watched a lot of Rudy last year, it was a little disconcerting seeing the PLA and Ned screw him over like they did this year. He was lights out in the first half and was more than more than adequate in the second even after he was abused by Grady after the various injuries on the staff. Remember too that his ERA was inflated from 2-3 bad outings where he was coming in tired late in the season. He got screwed by some bad defense this spring, combined with the early groin injury.
Remember, this is a guy who still throws and locates a 95 mph fast ball and combines it with a nasty slider. That, and he can go 3-4 innings if needed. I am sure there is a team out there that could use him, and I think the Dodgers were stupid to not keep him around for his versatility.
