« Brewers Make Offers To Braun And Fielder | Main | To Be Dealt: Bay, Nady, Marte, Morris, Wilson »
The Tigers have signed left-hander Aaron Fultz to a contract with AAA Toledo. Fultz, an eight-year big-league veteran, was released this week by Cleveland.
Bobby Seay is currently the only left-hander in Detroit's bullpen. So if Fultz can get his act together, there's probably a spot for him on the big league club.
PECOTA projects Fultz will have a 3.92 ERA in roughly 45 innings pitched in 2008. But, as we all know, predicting what a reliever will do from one season to the next is far more difficult that predicting a position player, or even a starting pitcher.
Coley Ward writes for Umpbump.com. You can reach him here.

Smart move by the Tigers. They got the one LOOGY out there, and thats their main need. Its a minor league deal so there is no downside. Seemed like a pretty obvious signing for them, but actually doing it is another thing. Good move by Dombrowski.

This isn't a terrible move. We did sign a lefty instead of trading for one and giving up prospects for another of similar value.

If fultz makes it up to the majors the Tigers are in major trouble

situational pitcher with questionable results. Adds depth, but probably not going to make a difference otherwise. Not horrible, just kinda there...

I don't understand where you coming from TribeFan06? he put up a 2.92 ERA in 37 innings last season, they may have been in non-pressure situations, but none the less id be happy with it.

because after he came back from his injury he was terrible... and then followed that up by putting up terrible spring....
if he was any good the indians would not be paying him 1.5 million to pitch for the tigers this year and replacing him with a waiver wire pickup

Yes, because there is no chance he goes down to Toledo and figures things out. His presence in AAA will bring down the entire Tigers organization. It is what it is...a gamble that he can turn things around with little cost. If he pitches badly, he never comes up. I don't think anyone is truly counting on him. But, you'd think TribeFan would have called DD and told him to save his time.

"Yes, because there is no chance he goes down to Toledo and figures things out. His presence in AAA will bring down the entire Tigers organization."
way to over exaggerate what i said... i said if he makes it up to the majors the tigers will be in trouble... if he "works it out" he is mediocre at best... also if he makes it up to the majors after "working it out" in AAA that likely means that rodney and zumaya are out for a very extended period of time which means the tigers are in trouble

No risk signing. I don't know why people are complaining. If Fultz turns it around, he can help out in a specialist role and if he can't nothing is lost.

"also if he makes it up to the majors after 'working it out' in AAA that likely means that rodney and zumaya are out for a very extended period of time which means the tigers are in trouble"
Not really. It would most likely means that he replaces Aquilino Lopez since Leyland likes to have two lefties in the pen.

Unless he really dazzles, Aquilino Lopez will be the first sent to the minors to accomodate Rodney or a reliever we trade for.

So Tigers and Indians fans are having a pissing contest over Aaron Fultz? Sheesh. If the division title hangs on Aaron Fultz rather than, say, Willis learning to pitch again or all the innings catching up to C.C. or Granderson's finger or the Tribe black hole at third base or the general suckitude of both Todd Jones and Joe Borowski... I mean, come on guys.
