« Olney's Latest: Sherrill And Street | Main | Bedard Going Nowhere Fast »
La Velle E. Neal III of Twins Insider is reporting that the Twins are bowing out of the Adrian Beltre sweepstakes. The price for Beltre, rumored to be similar to what the Phillies gave up for Joe Blanton, was just too high. Neal says:
In the Twins’ case, it could mean one of their four young starters plus a couple prospects.
Beltre is scheduled to make $12 million next season and any team that trades for the third baseman would have to pay that.
Just how much is Beltre worth? USS Mariner tackled that question in depth last September. Their findings might surprise you.

Im thinking that the Twins are going to make a deal more for a Ramon Vazquez or Wiggington type. Seems more like there style.

I could see them going have to Bill Hall. But I agree Wiggy is prolly is the best fit for them.

Wow. That article on Beltre was something else.
I've got to say its convinced me that Beltre has a lot more talent than I had realized.

I never thought the Twins would go through and sign Beltre. Beltre is skilled but the Mariners suck so bad that they need way more than people are willing to give.

The only trade this team will be making is for a lefty reliever.
Brian Buscher (3B) has shown that he can hit lefties and righties, and Delmon Young is bursting out enough to be considered our lefty masher (he's hitting .299 all the sudden!).

what many don't understand with this is that the core guys the Twins have right now are gonna be great for years to come Liriano, Baker, Blackburn, Perkins, Slowey, guys like that will be the Smoltz/Maddux/Glavine for the next decade.

i'm not so sure Liriano, Baker, Blackburn, Perkins, and Slowey. Are necesariily Smoltz/Maddux/Glavine those are 3 hall of famers were talking about. But the Twins do have a ton of pitching yet in the minors its ridiculous. They need to go for Beltre. Once his contract is up hopefully Luke Hughes will be ready...hes hitting 333 with 15 bombs at AA...not bad
