Jarrod Washburn Placed on Waivers

3:32: I'm a bit confused by these two reports, as I thought there was an automatic waiting period of three business days. Either there's something I'm missing (entirely probable) or there's a discrepancy here. I'll keep looking for something definitive.

1:09pm: The Seattle Times is reporting that Washburn has cleared waivers.

11:48am: Jarrod Washburn was put on waivers yesterday by Seattle. They'll expire on Tuesday. Are the Yankees still interested? Ken Rosenthal didn't think so, but that was last week. Last we heard, the Mariners wanted quite a bit, and the Mets, Rockies, and White Sox had also been mentioned as possible suitors.

Washburn turns 34 in less than a week, and has a 4.76 ERA this year. Next year, he's owed $10.35MM. Maybe the Mariners have decided to come down their asking price.

If i was Yankees GM Brian Cashman i would go and try to make a trade for Washburn. The Yankees need another good pitcher in their rotation. I would offer the Mariners Ian Kennedy and 1 or 2 minor league prospects for Jarrod. I feel that he would be a plus for their rotation. Because right now the rotation has 2 rookies in it that are struggling. Adding Mr. Washburn would be a great idea i think.

If the Yankees offer Ian Kennedy and 1-2 more prospects for Jarrod, the Ms better take it. They've been trying to deal Washburn for several years now, pretty much ever since they signed him. The problem is that Washburn has been past his peak and overpaid at that and never quite reached his potential.

YankeeFan

What? You serious? He was just put on waivers! I'd say a rasner for washburn yankees take the contract sounds about right. The mariners need to understand the orioles fleeced them it suck I know but other teams are not that stupid. Washburn is a salary dump and if you can get a c-level or evn if you are lucky b-level prospect then you do that right away. Maybe a guy like eric duncan.

Washburn's contract is so much so what it is that even a straightup dump might be advantageous for a team like the Ms.

Joe, im not serious. Your right Kennedy and prospects is a little bit to much. I just want the Yankees to get him so i was over pricing.

Since the Yankees are hiring the likes of Rasner, Ponson, etc, Washburn might fit right in. Washburn has been one of the more hittable pitchers in the AL for the last several years. His innings are worth something though, esp. loading up for a stretch run. Even at that, with Joba's injury, I think the season is pretty much as over as it gets for the Bronx this early. they just don't know it yet.

Yankeefan - are you really "Guru" in disguise?? LOL!! (joking)

There is NO way on earth they will offer Kennedy and 1-2 prospects. Two weeks ago they wouldn't even offer ONE C grader...why would they all of a sudden offer a top prospect PLUS 2 others??

Players go on waivers for one reason only...salary dump. Maybe the m0r0n M's management FINALLY got the memo that what they were asking for Washburn was laughable.

Again....delusional M's fan (aka - Village Idiot) you have absolutley ZERO shot of getting Kennedy for a 34 year old pitcher that is 5-11 4.76 making 10 mill and on WAIVERS to be dumped for salary. ZERO. We all know that you think "Washburn = Wang" and we've ALL told you that you're a total idiot for it on several occasions. Obviously even you beloved M's manangement knows he's crap or he wouldn't be on waivers!!

Secondly, if the Yankees scoffed at giving them Christian or Garner....and said take Igawa or forget it...why the F would they decide to give up a 23 year old top 5 pitching prospect two weeks later?? DUH!!

Please get SOME assemblance of a clue dude. You really make it waaaay too easy for everyone on here to body slam you. You make these insane proposals that make ZERO sense...and then when people call you on it, you tell everyone they're stupid and that you know everything...even after 87 people prove you wrong hourly.

I'm out for the night. Have fun writing a 98 paragraph diatribe on how we're all stupid....and that Washburn has a 1.23 era in night games, on the 4th of every month when it rains....so therefore, he = Johan Santana and we should give Kennedy, Hughes and Jackson for him.....even though he's on WAIVERS!!! LOL!!!!!!!

PS - The Village Idiot clearly FAILS to understand the waiver process. He is on waivers because he SUCKED this year, not lived up to his contract and the M's DON'T want to pay him anymore. That is called a SALARY DUMP you F'ing idiot!!! Why would the Yankees do ANYTHING but take his salary??? That is what they offered to do a few weeks ago and your moron GM passed. Now you can eat his sh!tty contract for the rest of this year AND next.

Even if the Yankees miss the playoffs for the first time in 14 years...and that IS a possibility right now...they WILL NOT sacrifice a rookie they like to overpay for a crappy overpaid vet who's 5-11 4.76 making 10 MILL.

If you knew how to read...ANY team that has spoken to the M's about Washburn was LAUGHED at your moron GM's requests. You are the only slaphead in the world who doesn't get this!

JJyankeesfan2- Lol, no i am not BaseballGuru in disguise. :)

JJyankeesfan2-

P.S i just created this account a few days ago

Washburn is a salary dump. Plain and simple. He will not save the yankee's season. He's just about like having ponson. Now the yankees are in a bad situation but kennedy is 23!! I'll give him a little more time like three more years before I call him a AAAA starter. That's just insane. They are better off holding on to these guys and coming back next year with three guys who will easily fill 1 to 2 spots. Resign pettite, moose and make a splash with sabathia. The your rotation is pettite, hughes, chamberlain, sabathia, kennedy, wang and moose.
Now I don't remember the yankees going after holliday but if so the rockies would not want to budge because kennedy would have been the headliner of that package they would want him and an elite bat like cano. It has nothing to do with kenedy being trash. Now I do remember the yankees going after fuentes. Now kennedy was brought up in that discussion and even straight up that's a dicey move for the yankees but not only that the rockies wanted more!

Just because a player clears waivers does not mean he sucks. If you look at the list from last year you will see that.

Below is ERA, WHIP, and K/9. 5 of the players make up the current Yankee rotation. I have Washburn slotted as the #3.

Moose: 3.27 / 1.20 / 6.16
Pettite: 4.34 / 1.35 / 6.99
Washburn: 4.76 / 1.48 / 5.25
Ponson: 4.73 / 1.58 / 3.82
Rasner: 5.28 / 1.55 / 5.59
Kennedy: 8.17 / 1.92 / 6.13

The statistical difference between the current #2 starter (Pettite) and Washburn is completely insignificant. To suggest that Washburn doesn't offer some form of an upgrade is just silly.

Since the end of May Washburns ERA has dropped nearly 2 full runs. He has had 13 starts over that span. He has given up more than 4 runs just once. Over Rasner's last 13 starts he has surrendered more than 4 runs in 4 games. How different would the Yankees look now with an extra 3 wins?

Washburn is no ace. However, he is a decent starter that would be a significant upgrade over their current offerings. If this were another team then his salary would be an issue. But, we are talking about the Yanks. What's another $3m this year plus $10m next year?

If the Yanks want to make the post season they need to upgrade their rotation. Right now Washburn is the best available option to do just that.

Any team would love kennedy he's young and has above average stuff. Mariners would be lucky to get someone, anyone!
Now kennedy going to the mariners because he's old mates with clement? I don't think the yankees will really take that in to consideration.

Washburn will not get them in the postseason. He's a good #4 or #5 but is overpaid. It's not just 3mill this year and ten next which no matter if it's the yankees or not is crap load of meny for an above average #5! They would also have to worry about the amount of luxury tax. It's not I repeat not worth the investment. Maybe if you guys say it enough you'll convince yourselves but man almost no one agrees. No team wil give up anything of value and pay 13 million! OKay nobody. It's a dump with if you're lucky a c-level guy or you keep him.

Contreras got hurt today with a ruptured tendon, I bet you'll be hearing about the Sox going after Washburn now.

Oh man, oh man! You might be able to get Brian Anderson if you take all of washburn's contract for this year and the white sox get stuck with it for next year. I would almost guarantee he passes through without anything happening.

Whitesox have just traded A single A outfielder to the Royals for Horacio Ramirez SP/RP might effect the washburn deal

Good pick up by the Sox, gave up Paolo Orlando, so pretty much nothing. I think he'll replace Boone and either another SP will be coming or Carrasco becomes a 5 inning 5th starter.

Guru, I would have to think that the Yankees interest is not that high on Washburn. If they really wanted him they could have made a claim, and that told the M's, either dump the salary on us or keep him. Since they didn't make the claim it doesn't sound as if they are going to give anything up for him.

Washburn is not going to have the kind of return you are hoping for. Sorry, we all want the major return for anyone we give up. But that contract is not going to inspire much. There will be no bidding war, if either team wants him they will make an offer if not good enough, move on.

I see the Village Idiot was at it again at 4AM because he has ZERO LIFE. What a shocker!

Funny that the best you can do when I'm not around is hammer me on a typo (Garner to Gardner). Geeee....heavy stuff! See, I don't have the time you do to type out 98 paragraphs of useless info and idiotic opinion. I type and then work or go about my business. So there may just be a typo here and there.

Bottom line about your beloved Washboard is what me and EVERYONE else stated after me: HE IS ON WAIVERS BECAUSE HE'S A SALARY DUMP. THAT IS WHAT THE WAIVER PROCESS IS FOR!! If he was any good or remotely lived up to his bloated contract, he wouldn't have been placed on waivers. You should be glad to get a large pizza back if someone pays his ridiculous salary...let alone a top 5 prospect in Kennedy (and that meant in the Yankee Organization you F'in slaphead) PLEASE get a clue dude. There isn't one poster on here that doesn't roll their eyes when they see your name.

PS - And to insinuate that us getting Washboard (5-11 4.76) is going to propel us into the playoffs....and make up for the loss of Joba and Wang???? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude, you HAVE to be the first person in your family to walk upright.

You work nights Village Idiot? I didn't realize Burger King was open 24 hours a day?!

You can keep coming back on here to try to get the last word and prentend that ANYONE on here thinks you're anything but a total joke...but it doesn't change the fact that you are most mocked poster on this board. Not a single person that comes on here regularly hasn't slammed you for your idiotic and rambling 57 page diatribes of bullsheet.

"Don't lash out at me because your team hasn't bought a championship in almost a decade, go blame the players who SUCK"!!

Funny....in every post you brag how your team and owner have just as much money as the Yankees...but your team has never won ANYTHING while the Yankees have been in 6 of the last 12 World Series while winning 4. YOUR team certainly tried to buy a title with Bedard, Beltre, Washburn, Sexson, etc...How did that work for your LAST PLACE team??? I guess that's why you're a jealous little child who feels the need to chime in on anything to do with the Yankees. Either that...or it's true what that other poster said, "Guru only comes on here now because he's so F'ing stupid he got booted from the M's board"! LOL!!!

VILLAGE IDIOT SAYS: "Let's look at your draft classes, as this gives a clear inidication of how overrated your prospects are and how horrible your farm system is..."

This is from the Sporting News:

#5- New York Yankees
Now before you slap down the fan bias card, there is a reason for this. OF Austin Jackson caught on fire last year and came into his own, OF Jose Tabata is still young and needs one full season under his belt to get going. C Jesus Montero rates 80 on the 20-80 scale for power, and RHP Alan Horne was AA Pitcher of the Year last year. RHP Mark Melancon is coming back from TJ surgery, but the former AZ State closer is too good to ignore. RHP Humberto Sanchez should be healthy for 2008. The wealth of RHP is awesome, but the lack of LHP is truly disturbing.

NOTICE THE RANKING IN ALL OF MLB!

Once again, you have proven WHY you are the most mocked poster on this site and named the Village Idiot.

Dude, I'm not even going to continue this banter with you. There is no need. You clearly are the first in your family to walk erect...and you make a total ass out of yourself with every post...both in a baseball sense and as a person. The only reason you even come on here is to get attention, whether it's positive or negative. I truely feel sorry for you.

Dude....go back to the Abreu chat, scroll down and see where at least 12 different people called you a F'ing idiot....just like EVERY board. You can pretend like you have a clue or a friend, but you obviously have NEITHER. This latest crock of sheet is the reason why. Not a damn thing you write makes one ounce of sense whatsoever.

I already showed you where the Yankees farm system was ranked. (#5) Their AAA team is in FIRST place and has the best record in the LEAGUE. Their AA team is in first place and has the best record in the LEAGUE. Even when I give you facts, you still reply with blind stupidity and throw the M's back in my face like they aren't the joke of baseball.

I've clearly wasted enough time arguing with a moron who has the baseball IQ of a girl scout. Find someone else's time to waste little boy.

Here are a few quotes from other posters to exemplify why "Guru" is the Village Idiot.

SCOTTSDALE - "No it was probably since you insisted Washburn is worth, at least, Austin Jackson, De la Rosa, and the yankees taking on all of washburn. Or maybe it was when he said washburn was a better pitcher than wang. Either way, its a long standing track record of Guru's idiotic remarks and the corresponding insults that follow. His arguements typically have no fact or logic to back them up and are onesided discussions of how great the mariners are and how much their players are worth on the trade market".

V - "LOL, Baseball'Guru' still at it. I love the 'OMG, CAREER ENDING INJURY' Joba talk.
He has rotator cuff tendinitis. Tendinitis is not career threatening".

SCOTTSDALE - "For anyone who wonders why Guru is treated as such, I recommend clicking the Mariners Rumors link and reading some of the comments in there. Hes got a long record of lashing out at people for disagreeing both when provoked and unprovoked".

LETSGOO's - "This mentality is why you are an idiot. You have no idea beyond how good the mariners are on your xbox in easymode. Stop thinking you know better since you are probably the stupidest poster on these boards".

This is just a few quotes from the end of ONE board...and this obviously doesn't even include me bodyslamming your dumb azz. If I went back to that board where you started your Washboard bandwagon to the Yankees....I could have at least 67 quotes because you were beaten mercilessly that night.

Are you getting the point yet Village Idiot that your BS is not wanted on here...and that EVERYONE thinks you are a total freakin joke??
