« Mark Teixeira Rumors: Saturday | Main | Olney: Latest On Fuentes »
In detailing their offseason plan to address the rotation, Ken Rosenthal adds the Baltimore Orioles to the short list of teams interested in acquiring Tim Redding. The Orioles are also interested in Braden Looper, says the article.
In addition to the Orioles, Redding is being sought after by the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies. The Rockies have also been mentioned in rumors regarding a potential pursuit of Looper.
It may take a two-year deal to land Redding, and recent rumors have made it appear as though only the Mets are willing to go that far.
Based on the rumors we've been seeing lately, it may come down to dividing three back-end starting pitchers among three teams in need of rotation help: one each of Redding, Looper and Jason Marquis, for the Orioles, Rockies, and Mets.

If Blooper comes back to the Mets, I'll slit my throat. One of the worst pitchers in all of MLB. I know a lot of you will say "no he's mediocre." I don't care. I have so many nightmares from Blooper's blown saves. I think Omar is smart enough not to bring him back. If the Orioles get Redding and the Rockies get Marquis, I think Omar will go get Koji Uehara rather than Blooper.

The fact that ANY team is interested in signing Tim Redding to be a starter is a sign of bad times. He is a bad pitcher - his career ERA+ is 88 and a career WHIP of 1.50, and he's only 2 years removed from not even pitching in the majors because he sucked so bad.

Both would be AWFUL in the American League East.

Worst pitcher huh??? Then try to tell us Cards fans with a total straight face as to whom it was in our rotation in 2008 that kept us in contention??? The correct answer is Braden Looper. Dude, in case you haven't noticed he's now a starter. He posted a 12-14 (W-L), 4.16 ERA, 33 GS, 1 CG, 1 SHO, 199.0 IP, 45 BB, 108 SO, 1.31 WHIP. Not too shabby for a guy whom for a good chunk of '08 was one of our better starters along with Kyle Lohse. I'll grant you this, Looper isn't a top of the rotation guy. But he does make a good #3 or #4 guy.

Mets fans would be praying for Looper after a few starts of Redding.
