Nationals Ink Towers To Minor League Deal

Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that the Nationals have signed Josh Towers to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

The 31-year-old right-hander spent all of last season at Triple-A Colorado Springs and finished with a 6-7 record and 6.27 ERA.  He'll need a really strong showing this spring to make the Nats.

Bleh...maybe if he does good we could use him outta the 'pen.

I still don't understand why Bowden let go of Cordero. The Nats need as much quality pitching as they can get, and so the move was bad. Is there no more loyalty to players anymore? lol

BleedinBlue, it's not that simple. If they wanted to keep him (without non-tendering him) they would have had to tender him a contract, which by league rules could be no less than 80% of his 2008 salary, which would have been like $4.5 mil I think, way too much to pay such a question mark.

Bowden royally screwed it up, though...they could have non-tendered him and resigned him, but he was stupid enough to talk about the process in like July.

anywhere but Toronto is perfect with me! Good luck with the Expos of Old Josh!

Awesome! The Padres suckered the Nationals into signing their GM? That's the best move they've made all winter!

paxterj,
Keep em coming, hillarious.
