I thought RA Dickey would have success this year with MN but turned out to be disappointing.
Of these listed, I'd take a chance on Joe Nelson, Connor Robertson, and Brian Bullington (just for fun).

since when is chris shelton a 3B?
Posted by: PL | October 12, 2009 at 04:55 PM
Can add (thankfully) 1/3 of the Pawtucket Red Sox roster to that list. Only a couple are of worth any consequences and would be missed, relievers that have -0- chance of making the Sox staff. Rocky Cherry and Marcus McBeth. Others already that should be available include:
Jeff Bailey
Billy Traber
Gil Valazquez

Shelton started playing 3rd alot this year at AAA.

This is absolutely amazing! Thank You so much for this MLBTR!!!

If I were Mike Rizzo, I would be all over this list. Humber would be my number one target. What the heck happened there? Wasn't he the top pitcher in the Mets organization?

* If im the Mets i take a look at these names *
Would Jacque Jones, Darrell Rasner, or maybe even Geoff Jenkins qualify for this list?
Posted by: SouvenirCityBaby | October 12, 2009 at 05:18 PM
DC,
Humber had Tommy John and lost pretty much everything.
Naturally, Bill Smith saw fit to accept him as 25% of the bounty for Johan Santana. Splendid.
Posted by: MorneauVP | October 12, 2009 at 05:19 PM
Ouch.
Posted by: DC Nats Fan | October 12, 2009 at 05:22 PM
Rasner is pitching in Japan, SCB. I don't know anything about Jones or Jenkins.
If you are a veteran on that list though, you should probably just retire.

Souvaniercitybaby,
F-Cab is still on the Red Sox roster, or I would have named him.
That is one guy that really, really deserves a MLB shot after Boston fixed his wildness problem at AAA in 2009 and he led the IL league (I think) in saves.
If the Sox have an opening in the BP out of ST, this guy deserves it, he could be the next David Aardsma guy.
Posted by: johns | October 12, 2009 at 05:27 PM
Indeed, Humber was part of the great bounty Bill Smith got for Santana (sarcasm). He did flip Mulvey for Rauch which was a quality move, IMO. Gomez needs to spend THE ENTIRE year at AAA. Guerra is a young kid in Class A--it'll be 3-4 years before he maybe pans out.

Royce Ring and Moreno = awesome. Ring needs another chance with the Padres and Moreno wasn't that bad when he was called up earlier in the season.
Posted by: goofball | October 12, 2009 at 05:42 PM
Royce Ring? uhhh yeah....I saw him pitch about 10 too many times at AAA this year! He was a big part of Memphis losing the championship game, NEXT
Posted by: stlcards16 | October 12, 2009 at 06:35 PM
Wilson Betemit wasnt that bad with the yankees.

If you sign a minor league deal and qualify as Type-B or Type-A, does the team have the right to offer you arbitration/receive compensation if you sign with another team? What if you sign another minor league deal?
Posted by: GScott | October 12, 2009 at 07:04 PM
I might sign Kris Benson to a minor league deal, just in case he does well and realizes his #1 pick potential. Dave Duncan can do amazing things :D
Posted by: Taskmaster | October 12, 2009 at 07:16 PM
Wasn't Mitch Jones a big time power hitter in the Dodgers farm system? Similar to the Nelson Cruz, Russ Branyan, Garrett Jones types?
If that's who I think it it, someone should give him a shot next year. Might be a cheap source of power.
Posted by: bigpat | October 12, 2009 at 07:31 PM
what about mark prior?
Posted by: aramisramirez | October 12, 2009 at 07:32 PM
I'd definitely take a chance on Mark Prior!

I thought Duffy was gonna have a good career, too bad he hates sports.
Posted by: WS2009 | October 12, 2009 at 07:54 PM
Also, wasn't Brian Barden the rookie of the month last march or April?
Posted by: WS2009 | October 12, 2009 at 07:59 PM
If I'm the Mets i do look at Wilson Betemit as a cheap source of power for 1B... who knows he might be able to find it again and you have
1) an upgrade over Andy Green/Wilson Valdez
2) a player who can be a nice platoon man with Murphy
Posted by: SouvenirCityBaby | October 12, 2009 at 08:17 PM
Humber jumps out as one to take a chance on.
Posted by: melonis rex | October 12, 2009 at 08:22 PM
Isn't Connor Robertson the brother of Yankee rp David Robertson?
Posted by: YanksFanSince78 | October 12, 2009 at 09:18 PM
do you add wily mo pena to this list? or is he officially done?
Posted by: elmedius | October 12, 2009 at 09:59 PM
For some cheap bullpen help Geoff Geary would be worth a shot, he is only a year removed from a productive season.
Steven Register and Edwin Moreno are other interesting bullpen guys. They have shown solid K rates throughout their minor league career. Someone should give them a chance.
On the offensive side obviously Wilson Betemit. Mitch Jones could be worth a flier on a team looking for a power bat off the bench. Joe Dillon, to me, should be a platoon starter on a team somewhere on a team looking for a cheap corner infielder. The guy is an absolute masher against lefties.

Of the list and if I was big Jack Z than I would take chance on some as they could make team out ST or good insurance at Tacoma.

3B Joe Dillon
RHP Brandon Duckworth
OF Chris Duffy
RHP Geoff Geary
LHP Javier Lopez

Chris Capuano, finally ready to come back from his 2nd tommy john surgery would be on my list.
Everyone else, no thanks.
Posted by: Kinsm | October 13, 2009 at 07:43 AM
All of these players are either has-beens or they just flat out suck.
Glendon Rusch is still alive?
Posted by: Hellion | October 13, 2009 at 08:12 AM
Dickey turns 35 this month if he doesn't make a big league club out of ST he needs to retire.
Posted by: Kinsm | October 13, 2009 at 08:21 AM
^Same with Glendon Rusch

Isn't Connor Robertson the brother of Yankee rp David Robertson?
Posted by: YanksFanSince78 | October 12, 2009 at 09:18 PM
Yes he is, he is a 28 year old AA closer.
Posted by: Kinsm | October 13, 2009 at 08:47 AM
R.J. Swindle is only 25, he hasn't found success in his 2 mlb tryouts, but his numbers in the minors are ridiculously good. Add in the fact that he is a lefty he's definitely worth a minor league deal.
Posted by: Kinsm | October 13, 2009 at 08:56 AM
^Same with Glendon Rusch
Posted by: Kinsm | October 13, 2009 at 08:22 AM
Glendon Rusch didnt pitch at all this season for Triple A at all as he wanted to be release but wasnt granted it.
