A few leftovers as the Phillies and Yankees do battle in Game 6...
- According to ESPN.com's Jorge Arangure, recently-defected Cuban first baseman Jose Julio Ruiz has impressed scouts in workouts the past two weeks. The Red Sox and Tigers are known to have some level of interest.
- Dave Cameron of U.S.S. Mariner thinks the M's should "kick the tires" on several undervalued starters this offseason. He lists Ben Sheets, Rich Harden, Carl Pavano and Randy Johnson, among others, as possible targets.
- MASN's Byron Kerr spoke Wednesday with Jim Riggleman, who's hoping to be named the Nationals' permanent manager shortly after the World Series ends. He went 33-42 as Washington's interim skipper last season.
- According to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star, the Royals have shown "little inclination" that they plan to pick up Coco Crisp's 2010 option worth $8MM.
- Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle lays out some advice for Astros owner Drayton McLane, including this nugget: "Give GM Ed Wade a five-year extension and give him the freedom to
reshape the roster and the organization. If there's any doubt he knows
what he's doing, check out the 2008-2009 Phillies. Ed Wade acquired the
core of those teams."
I could easily see the M's bring in the unit.
Maybe like they did with Jr this season. Bring him in for some press buzz and a tutor for some of their younger guy's.

Drayton McLane will never give any GM the autonomy to to build that team the way it needs to be done. He is a meddler plain and simple.

Unless they move Halladay during the offseason, the Blue Jays should look to grab one or two of those high risk/reclamation type pitchers. Especially since two of them are canadian(Bedard,Harden) it is the type of move that they have to make to even hope to compete with the Sox and Yanks

One thing for sure -- the M's wouldn't let Johnson have #51.

Whatever, Ed Wade will sign Carlos Delgado, Bengie Molina, and Hideki Matsui, trade Bud Norris and Jason Castro for Jake Westbrook at the deadline, win 83 games in dramatic late-August/early-September fashion and tank the past 2 weeks while missing the WC by 7 games and the NLC by 4, and be hailed as genius while firing another manager

5-year extension for Ed Wade. That's rich. What's next? Bringing back Brad Lidge, signing Joel Pineiro to a six-year deal, and extending Carlos Lee's contract?
I like Dave Cameron's stuff, but every team in baseball is going to be "kicking the tires" on Harden, Bedard, etc. Randy Johnson though? Really? Pretty sure he's toast.

For Seattle. If your lookin' for Bargins. Go Delgado for DH & R.J. Would like see them pursue Thome too but either of those coupled w/R.J. would make for a hell of a offseason. R.J. & Jr. on the same field for probably the last time, what could be better.

That's fine, as long as Jio Mier becomes the next J-Roll, Lyles becomes the next Hamels (etc), and the talent put together during his tenure makes consecutive WS trips (with 1 championship).

At this point, I have to think Randy is overvalued. He hasn't produced what people have been paying him for most of the last few years he's been signed. Can he be nice PR? Sure. Can he win a few games? Why not. But that man will not lead you to a championship, just ask SF. I think at this point, people might have to consider him as a long reliever or something. He's not durable enough to last a whole season and nor to be a regular reliever. Not quite sure where that leaves him.

Hahaha, could you imagine if Griffey came back and they brought Johnson in? Maybe Buhner should come back and play for the M's too. Why not??!
