The Royals declined their 2010 options on Coco Crisp, Miguel Olivo, and Yasuhiko Yabuta, according to a team press release.
On Crisp, the Royals chose his $500K buyout over his $8MM option. It's possible the Royals will offer Crisp an incentive-laden deal (he had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders this summer).
The Royals plan to go in a different direction than Olivo at catcher; they may also non-tender John Buck. Olivo had a $3.3MM mutual option. As for Yabuta, the press release says he can "elect free agency if he doesn’t sign a 2010 Major League contract with the Royals by November 16th." The Japanese reliever has been a $6MM bust; his $4MM club option was an obvious choice to decline.

With the conract talks between the Sox and Podsednik, I think, depending on his health, Crisp could end up on the southside.

Good. Does anyone else want the rest of our Mariner rejects now?

As a Royals fan..
don't let those 23 home runs fool you. power is pretty. watching him as a catcher is not.
watching him swinging at balls that hit the dirt 4 inches in front of the plate..not pretty either.
i wouldn't wish Miguel Olivo on ANYONE and this is coming from a guy who 2 years ago was ECSTATIC we got him..then i saw him play everyday. yikes!

Now to non-tender Jacobs and Buck and this will be a better offseason than last year's complete mess.

Haha, I hope the Mets get Olivo.
Really, I do.
But I don't really like the Mets :)

The point of the Mets getting Olivo is to share time with Santos and keeps them from overpaying Molina and the ability to use the money for other holes to fill. It would benefit the Mets if they got him.

olivo would be a platooning catcher with the mets until thole defense is worked on with an entire yr down in triple a. cant be any worse the brian schneider

Yeah I could see the Mets getting Olivo if they don't get Molina or any other catchers that they desire. Crisp to teh White Soxs makes a lot of sense considering Kenny Williams is trying to clean out the outfield and try to get some pretty good outfielders on the field.

how much would it take for the brewers to go after olivo? just curious...

All of you knocking Olivo seem to forget that catcher is not a premium offensive position. If you have a catcher who hits anywhere but 8th it is considered an asset. And Olivo throws the ball 98MPH to second base to nab stealing runners. His defense is premium and that is supposedly what the Mets are looking for in their new catcher. Anyone who can consistently catch Reyes stealing second base is fine by me.

Pick him up, Cubs! Speedy, lead-off hitting center fielder.

The Cubs need to start making moves NOW!!!!!!!! Other teams aren't standing still, Crisp could absolutely help the outfield and provide speed in the lineup. On second thought, it makes too much sense Hendry won't do it.
