Third Team Pursuing Rafael DePaula

A third team has joined the Yankees and Mariners in pursuit of 17-year-old Dominican righty Rafael DePaula according to MLBTR contributor Blake Bentley. He reports that DePaula is scheduled to pitch in front of Padres' scouts and senior executives next week.

DePaula worked in the 92-93 mph range during a workout a few weeks ago, and reportedly has an offer from the Mariners in hand. Standing 6-foot-3, he is considered the equivalent of a first round draft pick and is in line for a seven-figure deal.

Not to be rude, but when was the last time that Houston spent big on an international amateur player?

You can expect the Jays to be kicking the tires on this kid.

Probably the Royals! If the Mariner’s are in on someone, Dayton Moore wants them!

Cards need all the help in the farm as they can. Probably will get a mil less than arguelles(sp) got from the royals

Always is. I think the Padres should take that step to sign international talent. Rafael DePaula especially.

Pretty much any team could use an arm like DePaula. And recently, the Padres really have taken a solid step in their international scouting efforts.

Their best pitching prospect, Simon Castro, is out of the DR. They’ve also landed some very interesting young talents in Adys Portillo, Edinson Rincon and Rymer Liriano, all of whom are among the team’s top prospects. DePaula would certainly help, but San Diego has already proven to be fairly active in the Latin market.

I’m a big Edinson Rincon fan.
