Let’s see how perfectly Boras played the market when Beltre’s .387 BABIP comes back to earth. Didnt he turn down 30m from the A’s? The dude has a career .320 OBP, he didn’t become a great hitter overnight.
wolf9309
certainly he can’t keep up that BABIP and will come down to earth, but his peripherals all look much more like 2007-2008 Beltre than they do like 2009 Beltre, and that’s quite a difference in value

Beltre has a player option that can reach 10MM with 640 PA’s, which would be somewhat difficult but not impossible for him to do. Either way if he feels he’ll get less that 1/5MM then he might as well pick up his player option.

Ellsbury is just like Bonds and Henderson. He’s a man who runs fast and… um… doesn’t conduct photosynthesis?

Yeah. No kidding. Bor-ass’s comparisons are always good for a few laughs. Carl Crawford and Scot Podsednik come to mind as more realistic but more underwhelming comparisons. But hey, maybe Boras will get a front office to pay Ellsbury as if he were Rickey Henderson. It only takes one.

Boras always thinks his clients deserve top dollar. recall he thought that Varitek could get 4/48-52M after the 2008 season, simply because the NYY has just given Posada 4/52M and Varitek was coming off of the worst season of his career.
The man lives in some kind of fantasy land when it comes to his clients and the worth of them. The losers of late has been middle tier FA’s on down with him as an agent and his absurd demands that will not drop until the open jobs are filled.

You really think he believes in his comparisons? You are living in a fantasy land.
The man is a terrific agent, an unparalleled negotiator. That’s what the comparisons are about.

Just be glad he didn’t compare him to Albert Pujols.

This sounds similar to when Boras was comparing Rick Ankiel to being a combination of Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle, or whatever non-sense he was spouting last off-season.

If he stays healthy he will make it to 640 plate appearances. There is no way around it. Boras will be chirping in his ear telling him he deserves double what chone figgins got from the Mariners. He will test free agency, not come close to doubling figgins and sign for two or three years 9 to 11 millions. Still more than 1 year and 10 million but not close to what the “super agent” thought. Doesn’t this happen every year to a boras client?
