I hope the Yankees can grab Eddy Julio….but they seem leery on the Cuban guy’s…..and with basically no bonus pool…it almost impossible…also Yulieski might be getting ready to deflect….
Jo JoAnne
Yulieski is about to turn 31.. If he is going to get that big long term contract he better think about leaving Cuba soon..
Eddy Julio’s scouting report has him higher than Moncada (Hit: 60 Power: 60 Run: 65 Arm: 60 Field: 50 Overall: 65 for Moncada and Hit: 60 Power: 60 Run: 70 Arm: 60 Field: 60 for Martinez) If the Yankees could pull off signing him in the next week or so ( the signing period ends on June 15th) it would make the sting of missing out on Moncada evaporate.. Moncada was hyped for quite a long time as the next big player out of Cuba and I have heard hardly anything about Martinez.. If the scouting reports are accurate he appears to be a bit better.. I wonder if he will sign for $30m+ as well or if perhaps he has agreed to a deal similar to what Moncada was offered from the Dodgers.. (supposedly $40m if he waited until July 2nd..) Regardless, this will be something to watch in the coming days and I hope Hal will loosen the purse strings so Cashman can get this guy. The only problem that I can foresee is that he plays out in centerfield.. With Gardner and Ellsbury locked up and Judge the heir apparent to Beltran, I am not sure where he would fit in. Perhaps, he could give 2nd a try? He grades out as having a good glove and good fielding, so maybe he could be the future up the middle with Mateo.. Cashman should just sign him and work out the logistics later.. It seems like the Cubs have about 50 shortstop prospects and they seem to have worked it out..

No matter who the Yankees have in their outfield now….if Julio is as good as stay he will be then he should be signed…they could hold him down in the minors until Gardner contract s up…he would still be young…..I just hope he’s not another Rusney or Solar……
Jo JoAnne
Yeah I agree they should go after him hard.. I tend to over analyze everything but I like to cover all bases when I make an argument. Gardner has 3 years left on his contract with an option for a 4th.. So, keeping Martinez in the minors until his contract is up probably isn’t an option.. Although, his contract is very affordable so he would be an attractive trade option for several teams if he keeps up with his current stats.. Seeing as how he came up through the ranks with the Yankees and his popularity with the fans, I doubt that will happen.. I am not sure what you mean by mentioning Soler.. He is having a pretty good rookie year with the Cubs, and Castillo just got called up.. Its way too early to pass judgement on him.. I am pretty sure both of them will have solid careers, especially Soler..

Soler has an serious strikeout problem….And Castillo skills look like they won’t translate to mlb as of right now and he’s already 28….I just hope Eddy is more of a version of A.Jones……

Hopefully the Red Sox are in on Eddy. Gotta hoard as much talent as possible!

A centerfielder with pop? Phillies are gonna be in on him. All they have wanted the last 2 years was a TOR SP, a good young catcher and an OFer with pop.
Hence all the trade speculation around Betts, Swihart, Urias, Pederson, etc.

It is nice to finally see the Tigers show some interest in one of the Cuban players. Any boost to the farm system would be welcome.
