34 Players Elect Free Agency

By Anthony Franco | October 1, 2024 at 9:55pm CDT

As the offseason nears, a number of players elect minor league free agency each week. These players are separate from six-year MLB free agents, who’ll reach the open market five days after the conclusion of the World Series. Eligible minor leaguers can begin electing free agency as soon as the regular season wraps up. These players were all outrighted off a team’s 40-man roster during the year and have the requisite service time and/or multiple career outrights necessary to reach free agency since they weren’t added back to teams’ rosters.

Electing free agency is the anticipated outcome for these players. There’ll surely be more to test the market in the coming weeks. We’ll offer periodic updates at MLBTR. These transactions are all reflected on the MiLB.com log.

The yearly 30 team outlook series which has always been free is now behind a paywall for the $29.89 vip premium insider. Some people aren’t happy.

I have a solution though. Make it $29.99 like every other single company in the world other than mlbtr. Why are they leaving that 10 cents on the table?

So you’re upset that businesses have shifted to an ad-free, subscription model?? Heavens forbid that they try to increase revenue and make a profit. Fangraphs has recently moved to $60/yr btw.

Stop complaining. There are tons of free articles on this site. If you want to read the paywalled articles, the $2.50/month it costs to read them is very affordable.

Since everyone responding to you thinks you’re complaining, perhaps it’s not our reading skills but your inability to express your thoughts via the written word.

I wish that it was me who was the dum dum instead of everyone else. World would be better for it. Unfortunately that’s not the case.

“No one would have a problem if this article was behind a paywall.” I would have said I wouldn’t have a problem if this was behind a paywall if I was complaining.

“Some people aren’t happy” If I was wasn’t happy I would have said I’m not happy.

I sad thing is everyone but Yankees commented after I said this.

“Not upset about businesses trying to increase revenue.”

Yet you continue to comment and have 10 thumbs up. As you should. Because I have failed. And I won’t be trying again. I don’t know how I can say that I am “not upset” that would be any more clear than “not upset”

Just to toss my hat in to back up your statement. I’m not happy about it. But it is what it is. They are trying to run a business and ad revenue is crap when people are able to block them. Most of the time.

Judgeing from their stories in the past, it’s not worth the couple bucks for what they currently charge for. I do like the transaction posts though.

My two cents is that you can subscribe or not subscribe. But complaining about not subscribing is not really an option for me.

I subscribe to FG but not to MLB-R. If I miss something, then so be it.

They can sign just not allowed to do a contract during the World Series or major trades take away from the World Series spot light. Although most free agents that have filed so far are not big names. Also why wouldn’t they wait until the post season was over before signing. Why sign with like the angels and find out the padres would have had interest.

Thairo Estrada looks like a good gamble.

Only 28, versatile, three consecutive years above average with the bat from 21-23.

As an M’s fan, he is definitely an interesting target as a stop gap at 2B while we wait for our IF prospect group to ascend. We haven’t gotten offense out of 2B since Cano, so why not just run a gold glover there instead for a change.

2B is unusually deep as a FA/trade class this year too: Kim, Torres, Polanco, and Estrada as FAs, Lowe and India being likely on the trade market and possibly players like Donovan and Hoerner also on the block.

Might sound strange, but pitching? certain organizations would seem to look for where a player has spent time are, same as for offense.

That said? Mariner and Rays pitching? Take a hard look and see if can find a gem there, but pass on most bats been in those organizations. Both have been pretty good at *1* thing lately and hitting not among them. Geno Suarez post AS break was nice, but don’t count on many guys who have played at those 2 places to be known for offense.

I think just the oppoaite. Pitchers let go by teams known for pitching are likely to be marginal at best. But if let go by a team not known for pitching, there might be undeveloped talent that can be honed and refined. Same for hitters coming from teams not known for hitting. If the tools are there, an organization known for hitting, may still develop it.

Yes they do and it’s pretty good money that goes up with each round they advance. For a guy making the minimum advancing to the World Series can double their income for the year.
