« Proctor For Betemit Still Possible | Main | The Starting Pitching Market »

Tim Brown's Latest

Yahoo's Tim Brown has a new post up; let's take a look.

  • Brown ran all types of starting pitchers by a "large-market assistant," and confirmed that no one good is available.  However, Joe Blanton might be switched from "not available" to "available but expensive" on Brown's list.
  • The Diamondbacks have turned their focus to starting pitching.  Good luck with that - they should've just pushed harder to get Mark Teixeira.
  • The D'Backs aren't interested in Jermaine Dye, although he would seemingly be a nice fit for them.
  • The Blue Jays are listening to offers for Troy Glaus, but interest is surprisingly low.  I have to say, I'm really surprised that we're not hearing more about Glaus and Adam Dunn right now with Teixeira off the market.  The Padres, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, and others could all use a power bat.

Glaus makes so much sense for the Angels. I would be infuriated if I were an Angel fan.

A Yankee blog at mvn.com is reporting that a Gagne deal is nearly done: Clippard, a C-level prospect, and either Karstens or Marquez. It must be another joke.

Glaus to the Angels for Figgins straight up...

Nah Glaus for Wood and Aybar. But they won't do it, they never will do it. Flags fly forever...

What happened to Dye as a "plan B"?

Omar made a smart move by acquiring Castillo for next to nothing. I would love to see them get Blanton, but it's not going to happen.

Now that Texeira is off the market, Stoneman has no "Plan B". Troy Glaus makes TOO much sense for Anaheim, but "Stand Pat" Stoneman is gonna sit on his hands.

Shocking. If I was Jon Daniels, I would be trying to move Millwood as hard as I could. Anything for him and to move that contract.

A scout who posts on a Reds board just said that he'd be more surprised if Ken Griffey Jr. is a Red after tomorrow than if he were somewhere else. Says Griffey wants a contract extension with any deal.

Probably just blowing smoke, because if I had information that the guy wanted an extension beyond 2009, I'd assume teams would just look elsewhere.

If he just wanted the 2009 option exercised, that would be much more reasonable.

B.Bro,

"What happened to Dye as a "plan B"?"

word is Ana doesnt want another OFer ~ they already have Mathews, Vlad, Anderson, Willits, and Rivera coming back… 3B is their need unless they get the real difference making big-bat (like Tex would have been)

With the years he is having Millwood isn't going anywhere. He's making 12 mil? a year too with at least 3 years left on that contract. JD will keep a veteran like Millwood in the rotation to educate some of the younguns they have.

If Milly comes out and has a strong first half next season though. He'll have more value on the market. All that goes out the window if they can get Kershaw for him though.
