« Mike Cameron Suspended For Stimulant | Main | Rosenthal's Latest: A-Rod, Glaus, Cordero »
We've seen the connection made many times already, but now consider the interest official. The Mets are targeting Jorge Posada. The Yankees are expected to offer a three-year, $40MM type deal to him soon. That's all well and good but I can see him getting four years and $56MM given the season he had. Perhaps the Yanks will extend themselves to that range though.
The Mets are playing the field, as they've given Paul Lo Duca's agent an impression that they'll be making an offer. I like the idea of the Mets overpaying for Posada, as catcher is a clear position they can upgrade via free agency.

Things are not going the Yankees way.
What in the world will they do if Posada leaves? Add in the fact that many Yankee fans seem to think that a Betemit/Ensberg platoon will be just fine to replace A-Rod. Tack on 3 extremely young pitchers and this could easily become a .500 club.

Where did anyone say a Betemit/Ensberg platoon would replace ARod? I have been the one advocating that, because it's a good option compared to the other potential replacements for ARod.
Nobody is going to replace ARod's production.
And talking about the young pitchers all you want - last year we were starting Carl Pavano, Kei Igawa, and many young pitchers who were NOT among the top pitching prospects in baseball.
Nobody's counting on Joba and Hughes to win Cy Young awards next year - they just have to be better than the crap we were forced to throw out for the first few months of the season when every player decided to pull their hamstrings at the same time, and that's a near certainty.
As for Posada, ARod leaving unfortunately is going to make them overpay. They'll have to tack on an extra year and a few million per season. Not a huge deal when you have their money, have so many good and cheap young players, and have so many salaries coming off the books in the next couple years.
