Five Teams Interested In Alexei Ramirez

ESPN's Enrique Rojas checks in with the agent for Cuban defector Alexei Ramirez, Jaime Torres.  Torres says he met with five teams on Ramirez and another two are scheduled.  The message is now that Ramirez "can play second base or outfield."  The original message was that he could play shortstop and center field.

Wait, somebody who plays 2B, SS and OF? Good thing he's a righty, otherwise Hendry would have signed him for 4/$50M already. Phew!

oh he has Royals written ALL over him. Grudz contract is up after this year and we really have no 2b prospects in mind. I could see him playing some OF this year, give Grudz and DDJ a day off here and there, then lockdown as our 2nd baseman of the future in 09.

The Yankees are probably one of those teams - if they can move Matsui to SF for pitching, they'll outbid everybody for this guy to replace him. Hopefully, he'll be worth it.

i know he has the same agent as jose contreras, and KW was seen meeting with him, so i would imagine the white sox are one of the teams.

or not, because the only reason they would trade matsui is because they alreacy have matsui, damon, melky and abreu. Not to mention more then a few good outfield prospects. They tried to trade Johnny Nomad, but I guess they feel like Damon in left + what they can get for matsui> godzilla in left + what they could get for damon. They could easily use Matsui to get the final piece of the Santana puzzle. This could work because it will be easier adding that final prospect itnto the deal if you have no allegiance to him after bringing him up through your system. If the Yankees traded Matsui to the Cubs and got Pie, maybe they could get Johan without surrendering Hughes. Would Pie, Kennedy, Horne/Jackson or maybe both of them do it? The Yankee would have to jump on that. You could then even shop Moose if you wanted. Going into 2008 with Santana, Pettitte, Wang, Hughes, Joba would be sick.

If the sox dont get fukadome, they better get this kid he fills 2 positions we need. Kenny Williamsbergstein has been quiet for 2 days now, either hes asleep ( is what i literally think) or hes working on something big.

calm yourself. As a fellow Yankee fan, we're not getting Santana without including Hughes. Although Hughes, Melky, and the type of prospect that we might get for Matsui (upper mid level?) might be enough to put us back in the lead for Santana. And I wouldn't mind doing that.

Pie for Matsui would not work out. That's a really stupid trade only a Yankees fan would come up with.

Im not a yankee fan. I am just saying. If they can get Pie, that is immediately better then Melky, and adding Kennedy back in instead of some lower prospect that would have been added if Hughes was involved instead, might make up the difference. Sort of how the Redsox could offer in Ellsbury instead of Buccholz. It all depends how you look at Pie. Some see a superstar in the making, some see Corey Patterson.

Wonder if the Cards could go after him to play 2nd when Kennedy is bad and RF when Ankiel sits... TLR isn't a huge Brendan Ryan type guy

Pie isn't on the market for 34 year old corner OF even if he is left-handed. There's no one to play CF after him.

well living in chicago, cubs fans treat pie like hes the 2nd coming of christ, when in reality, all he has done is put up good numbers in the minors and jack sh*t in the majors. so to the common joe cub fan, pie can only be traded for santana, pujols, arod, migcab, or hanley ramirez.

I am not a Yankee fan. So there goes your little theory. Youre right, because Pie would only be part of what it would take to get Matsui. He doesnt strike out much, walks a lot, and gives you an 850 OPS every year. How is it really stupid? All I keep seeing is how the Cubs want a left handed hitting outfielder to hit in the middle of the lineup. Does Matsui not fit that mold?

I know, a lot of cub fans on here talk about acquiring these big time star players, but nobody seems to want to give up Rich Hill or Felix Pie. You have to give to get. Besides, it was just an idea. I am also not trying to put a blanket over every cub fan here by any means.

I don't think we'll get big time players. Alot of the Cubs fans here don't know what they are talking about.

If you trade Pie, who plays CF? If you trade Rich Hill to get Brian Roberts, who is your No. 3 pitcher? Jason Marquis? Yikes!

As for Mr. Yankee fan who says Pie would only be a start to get Matsui, keep dreaming pal. He's 34, showing diminished skills and cost $13M for 2008 and 2009.

I would not mind the braves going after him, they have a couple of cuban connections in escobar and bryan pena, but I really do not think we should sign him to an extended deal

Could be the Halos as Aybar and Izturis are lite-hitting SS's and the Angels missed out on the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes.
