« Odds and Ends: Castillo, Marte | Main | Marlins Considering Helms, Cantu »
UPDAT, 12-6-07 at 12:11pm: MLB.com's Corey Brock says the deal is worth $3.5-4MM.
FROM 12-6-07 at 11:24am:
According to MLB.com's Jim Molony, the Padres are nearing a one-year deal with outfielder Milton Bradley. Bradley is expected to be ready to play in April; hopefully he can stay healthy and give the Padres 400-500 good ABs. Bradley recently lost 15 pounds in an effort to reduce his injury risk.
Does this take the Padres out of the Kosuke Fukudome sweepstakes? Probably not - the Padres won't sign both Fukudome and Mike Cameron, but Bradley probably came cheaply.

This would take them away from a trade for Luke Scott...so what does Ed Wade do know?

I'm curious to know if they expect to use him as a CF, with Scott Hairston & Chase Headley platooning in LF. Jason Lane could give Bradley a break here and there.
As a Padres fan, I'm very excited for this signing. Bradley mashed for us and is an ideal #3 hitter if he stays healthy. On top of that, he was finally getting into a groove professionally before the Mike Winters incident. If he's going to have a productive second half of his career, the low pressure market of San Diego might be a perfect place for him to do that.

I would gladly welcome back Milton Bradley as a Padre.

Hummm, the Pads signed Bradley despite the fact that he threw a temper-tantrum in the last week of the season which cost the team its starting LF & CFers and more importantly, probably their playoff spot?
…I thought it was going to take a while for him to get over his injury anyway, will he even be ready to play by the start of the season?

I thought he was out until June? Guess I was wrong.
In any event, Milton continues to be an idiot but he can swing it. At the money they are paying him this is a great signing. If he doesn't work out you can either move his very affordable contract or DFA and not miss the cash.
